Thinking about SSD

Hi there, I think buying a Samsung 840 EVO SSD 120 GB. But I don't know if it is compatible with my Dell Inspiron 620. And I currently have a 1.3 to HDD (hard drive). But if I buy an SSD can I replace my HDD with SSD? And I've only will have 120 GB on my computer?

You have space for a single disc and 120 G is a bit too small for a long term use - a better base line is 240G.

You won't see a maximum performance of any SSD in this system - the controller will not support current speeds of SATA.

  • Thinking about ditching Windows 10 for OSX

I'll try to completely avoid bashing Windows, but I am extremely disappointed by Windows 10. It's a bug-riddled mess. And the store / apps are so poor compared to what we get on iOS. So thinking about getting a Mac (iMac, perhaps). Have never owned a Mac before. It is therefore completely new for us.

It makes sense for us, as we have iPads and iPhone to advance an Apple almost 100% eco system. We are very familiar with iOS, but not in OS X. My question is, if a lot of these applications, we like on iOS also appear on OSX? For example, sky +, bank HSBC, YouTube, Sky go, speedtest (ookla) etc etc. Basically if a app functions / is available is usually available on OSX too? We would like to be able to use many of these applications, we have grown to depend on in our mobile devices on the computer / big screen too. It would be cool if this is the case and I will certainly put my efforts in economics for a machine OSX our main computer of the family

    Thanks, Wayne

The bottom line is that there are a few applications available for OS x and iOS. They will not the same as Macs and mobile devices have different objectives and different hardware. The only way to know is to check the website of your favorite application and see if an OSX version is available or it is still necessary. For example, SpeedTest works in any browser, so there is no need of a separate application for iMacs.

I bought an OEM of Windows 8 64-bit of an online retailer and I was wondering if this is considered a one-time activation? Because I think about replacing my motherboard and there seems to be a lot of conflicting info on knowledge if I can transfer the license or not.

Original title: reactivation of Windows 8

If this is the license OEM System Builder, that you bought, it includes transfer rights, which means that you can move to another motherboard and turn it back on.

  • NB500: 2 questions about SSD disk upgrade

    Hello world

I have a mini laptop Toshiba NB-500 and I want to replace her with a SSD HARD drive.
I chose the series Pro Q Toshiba SSD SATA III 128 GB, which I think is totally compatible with my computer.
My 2 questions of this forum are:

    1. is this true? Can I replace the HDD by the Toshiba SSD without problems?

    2. is there an accessory that allows me to connect the HARD drive replaced by a USB cable and keep it as an external hard drive?

    Thank you for your support.

    my email is [email protected]

    Soluna

You can use a SATA SSD in NB500 since the laptop supports the SATA controller. But you won't get the full performance SATA III supported by this SSD drive. I guess that the portable computer s controller supports only SATA II ability.

If you want to use the old HDD 2.5 as external USB HDD, I recommend buying a SATA-to-USB external case. It would be the best solution to get the HARD drive connected to one of the USB ports

  • Portege Z30 & R30 - notice to owners + question about SSD upgrade

HI - need some advice please.

I am looking to replace a laptop existing and have narrowed down the choice to a Portege R30 or Z30.

There are owners out there with a view on another machine? I read all the comments: this is the point of view of any beneficial owners I'm after. Reliability, ease of use in particular. Has anyone replaced a battery on a Z30? That sort of thing.

There is a lot of money for me to spend - so I would really appreciate the help.

Having said that I'm torn between the two models - I'm leaning a little towards the Z30 - but the standard SSD is too small. I am aware that the SSD is mSATA and which does not limit what he can be replaced by. I'm a big fan of the EVO series - and there's an mSATA SSD available in sizes up to 1 TB.

Although there is not much information online - it was suggested that the current BIOS on the Z30 does not recognize mSATA SSD more than 512 MB.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks a lot, a lot.

Unfortunately, I m not Portege Z30 owner but I want to share my knowledge on this unit.
The Portege Z30 upgrade is a little tricky.
First to get access to the battery and the memory modules and mSATA low cover should be removed.

This means that you lose the warranty if you remove this cover.
I guess that it s not worth the warranty having such expensive unit.

By the way: models are equipped with a type mSATA ' Solid State Drive (SSD) "128 GB/256/512 GB
But this does not mean that the biggest mSATA modules are not supported. To be honest, this detail isn't known to me, but I think that the controller should be able to handle larger sizes too.

  • Thinking about upgrading to Windows 7 from Windows XP

Would like to know if there is a kit to upgrade my Ram RAM 1 G 704?  I have a HP Pavilion a1514n computer.

    Hi, David:

I chose the #1 my first choice was from there, down in priority.

I don't like slimlines (or any what SFF) for 2 reasons:

    1. inadequate heat dissipation.

    2. very difficult to upgrade. Need to worry about low profile devices, media attachment and in the case you want to add a video card, the anemic power supplies they have.

A lot of people like them because they take much real estate. Make nice Home Theater PC.

Touchsmarts, I feel pretty much the same thing for the same reasons.

When you click on one of these PC where I said to add a video card, you can customize your order and select a video card from the list of options.  One of the video cards listed with 1 GB of memory will be enough for your needs.

These maps will give you the possibility to connect an HDMI cable to your TV, where if you do not add one, I do not think that the integrated Intel graphics card gives you this ability.

In addition, a discreet (add) video card uses its own built in memory, Vice President with the PC system memory. If you have more memory for other tasks and better video performance memory embedded discrete video card system. You win the comings and goings.

If you look at some of the features, are there no free updates to 6 GB of memory?

So, let's say that you went with my #1 - the PC desktop HP Pavilion p7 - 1380 t.

Cost with a quad processor core i5 and 6 GB of memory (2 GB memory free update) base = $549.99.

Then, you click on the Customize button and add the video card... (scroll in the upper part of the image after you press the green button and you can select to customize stuff. Just click until you see the graphics card option). So, you want to select the... 1 GB Nvidia GeForce GT620 [DVI, HDMI, VGA via adapter].

Cost is now only $599.99, if you choose any other custom features. $400 under your limit of $1,000.

I'm pretty confident that you will be happy with this Setup. I would be.

But please... do not hesitate to collect other opinions.

I like Intel based PC on AMD. Others will say boo to that, and say AMD is better.

    The choice is yours...

Please share back and let us know what you end up buying and if you wish.

    Kind regards

    Paul

  • X131e - Questions about SSD and wifi LED

I want to buy a soon while they are reduced. I'm curious to know if, as there is no option of customization, it will be easy/possible to upgrade the 7200 RPM HDD for a SSD?

Also I keep reading on the wifi has led as a feature, but see I'll buy it for the exterior of the school is really not. Is it possible to disable? I guess that's not a major drawback, but I've yet to see, so it is

You should be able to replace the standard with a SSD HARD drive. Make sure you get a drive that is 7 mm thick. Former readers of 9.5 mm, without doubt, be good.

Either way, you can put the original HARD drive in a SATA enclosure and connect it to your X131e via USB as a backup device.

I'm not sure I understand your concern about the WiFi LED, but if you want to remove the light just paste a small piece of insulation tape black on it. If the issue that the light is too bright, you can probably find a movie broadcaster to stick on it will ease.

  • Returned to SSD, HDD, Windows still thinks its SSD

My SSD (Intel 60Go) became too small to hold my system partition of Windows 8, so I found another use for this SSD and returned to the HARD drive. I transferred all SSD to HDD with Paragon Backup & Recovery 2013 free, and now the system boot to HARD drive.
But Windows 8 is somehow always think that they are running on the SSD. For example "optimize the readers" (Ex Windows Defragmenter) shows "Solid State Drive" as the media type and probably because it cannot access TRIM, functions, he is unable to defragment the disk, so it is shouting that "optimization is not available:
How to convince Windows 8, they run the HARD drive again?
I tried to remove this disk "Drives" in the Device Manager, also I deleted/all reinstalled under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and "Storage controllers", without success.
I don't know what else to do, so I ask you for help and suggestions.
    Thank you and best regards,
    IKS

    Hey,.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences...
Well reinstall Windows is a solution, but I prefer to use more time and solve the problem without having to reinstall... Even if the relocation is the fastest path to the solution... :)
Well, I tried to reinstall/change all that tiny link to the features of disk and I always ended up dissatisfied because nothing has worked. Type of support remained as SSD...
BUT then on top of all my frustrations, I noticed that Windows Experience Index for my HARD drive is always a score of SSD, so I re-run the assessment and voila, the disc got his correct score and media type under 'Optimize the readers' was successfully set. Damn. I guess I'll finally sleep happy once more...
    Kind regards

  • What do you think about the Satellite C855 - 18 d

    Hello world

I used a Satellite 2410-SP203 for the last 10 years or more.
It has never failed, and now it works always, except for the hinges that cannot hold the screen more due to wear of the normal conditions of use.

Of course, it only works under Windows XP and has serious limitations for software these days.

So, I decided to buy a new one and found the C855 Satellite - 18 d suited my needs.
However, I would like to know what your fellow users think that reliability of the model.

    Thank you

    Hello

Well, generally speaking, it's not not bad.
Its equipped with a processor Intel® Core i5 - 3210M, 6 GB RAM, 640 GB HDD, screen Toshiba TruBrite® HD TFT high brightness and Intel® HD Graphics 4000

But if you want to play some games of next-generation, high-performance, I recommend you to buy a laptop that will be equipped with an ATI or nVidia GPU.
GPU Intel HD internal isn't really option goo for games.
