  • Slow to mark read messages.

I just moved the files from one PC to another. Reinstalled Thunderbird on the new machine. Account POP3, I've used for years. Have had problems of slowness in the past on the old machine, followed by some antivirus, etc. Old machine behaved properly recently. The machines are slightly different hardware, but both are Windows 7.

I keep a large Inbox (easy search); about 7000 messages.

On the new machine, marking a message read or unread or deleting a message, freezes Thunderbird for about 25 seconds. Move from an already-read the message to another has no time limit. Only when moving out of a message which has got only marked as read, or to mark a message read, causes the delay.

I tried to move half of my messages to another folder and compacted in the Inbox; Frost goes to 11-12 seconds (proportional to the size of the Inbox). But I don't want to leave it like that or keep the Inbox so small.

I compared the behavior in other folders (I check in from 2013 and before files in different folders): archive folders have the same proportional delay. More large files may cause a delay of 40-50 seconds. Small folding machines have almost no delay.

    These things made no difference:

    -Thunderbird safe mode, no difference.

    -Disabled antivirus; no difference.

-Enabled indexing (indexing of the file Windows, intelligent indexing of Thunderbird); no difference.

    -Database global rebuilt; no difference.

-Enabled "Use Thunderbird in offline mode": no difference.

-Verified Inbox gets rewritten instantly when I click on a message to read or click to mark unread. the gel comes after that.

    This, however, eliminated the delay:

-Restart Windows in safe mode with network. Thunderbird responded immediately, as it did on the old computer. Delay has disappeared.

Restart the computer in normal mode, returns the delay.

I found my problem - and thank you to all who responded.

It's my fault - I said this isn't the antivirus, and it's because I had turned off all * internet * monitoring and it has not affected.

Explain to a friend in person, I realized that I had not tried to turn off real-time * file * surveillance.

That was the problem. McAfee's scan the Inbox for the virus attachment file every time that the file was rewritten (whenever a message has been marked read or unread).

Obvious as soon as I thought about it. Thank you, everyone. Problem is solved.

  • How do you mark a message as 'unread' after opening it?

After reading a message, there are some I'd like to mark as "not read" but I am unable to understand how do.

Click with the right button on the message and select Mark as unread

    or

There should be a column that is usually just after the column of the object that has a pair of glasses search icon. You can click on the point him corresponds to the message and change the State of the message read to unread.

  • Thunderbird is mark all messages as "[span]." How to disable this option or tell him which are not term?

I installed Thunderbird on a new computer and many (almost all) incoming messages have "[span]' added to the subject line. What I put or modify to remove the notice?

You need to look elsewhere. Thunderbird does not use the word Spam or change the subject line. Check with your email provider and their spam filters or your antivirus software.

  • How to mark a message as unread again? or mark them manually if auto switched off?

I want to make some of them 'no read' to remind me to come back to them. Do not always want to mark them with a color code.

When I turn off the toggle "automatically mark the msg as read" in preferences, how I manually mark them as read?

You hovered above the column heading button and actually in effect the ToolTip tells you what is this button.

No actual icons next to the icon can also have an action too. So you can switch the playback status, or junk. You can collapse and expand the discussions.

For the love of heaven, explore, experiment. Try right click also.

  • Mark a message as brands to read the entire thread as read.

Other marking as read e-mail clients on a single message in a thread mark only this message as read. With Thunderbird, if I have three unread messages in a thread and manually mark one as 'read', the other two messages change to 'read' as well. I saw > sort by > Unthreaded the value, but I think not all the other parameters that may affect this behavior.

  • New version will not allow Ctrl M to MARK a message as read. It opens a new message, like Ctrl N. That's happened. Please correct.

Brand new version 31.1.1 and 31.1.0 precedents would not mark a message as read using ctrl M. You must open the message or go to the Message and scroll down to MARK and then mark them as read. Now ctrl M opens a NEW message, like ctrl N. Redundant. Please CORRECT. Very inconvenient. With the help of TB since it was invented. Good program. Minor flaw.

  • I created another account but now to read the emails from one account I need to select read messages rather than go straight to my Inbox on each account why?

I just added a different e-mail account, but to receive my emails that I have to click on my e-mail address high in "BOLD", in the left sidebar in thunderbird and then click on the button "read messages" so I can receive e-mails in my Inbox. It is with my default email account and my new account, I've set up an hour ago.
    Thank you

You may have the default display settings.

Turn on the "Folders pane" can help you navigate better. I got used to the look of 'style Outlook' at some point.

    To do this:
Select ' VIEW > layout > pane of folders "in the menu bar. If the police you always visible menu bar, you can activate it by pressing 'Alt + v' keys, then select ' layout > Folders pane.

I like the standard view + have the message pane (F8 is the shortcut for this one).

    I hope this helps.

  • Set up Thunderbird to always delete messages from the server

I want Thunderbird to delete all messages on the server everytime I open the program and collect the messages. More specifically, when I move a message read in a folder I don't want a copy of this folder or message on the server. How one who accomplishes?

Where is the folder to which you move the message?

Move your messages to local folders in Thunderbird and they will be stored on your computer and deleted the folder.

My guess is that your account is configured to use the IMAP protocol and you would be more comfortable with pop.

  • Apple Mail client - Google Gmail - so "read" messages in the Inbox

There are 18 messages in my Inbox. It is through Safari/gmail.com. My Apple Mail, zero messages client. They are not displayed in my client. Why?

Apple Mail account type is IMAP. I don't see any switch would turn to offshore my messages read.

Unread messages are displayed in my mail box.

Clarification question - are the emails in your Inbox, the same who are at gmail.com? Or are the emails not downloading? What version of OS are you using? It is the community of Yosemite, but your profile shows 10.11.
