Ubuntu - deletion vCPUs?

Hi all

Ive got a Ubuntu Linux (64-bit) VM that currently has 2vcpus and I want to cut this back to 1, everyone did it without problem?

Ive done many windows boxes, but not before ubuntu, what are the steps?

Thank you

Stewart

You can simply close the virtual machine, reconfigure VM to have 1 CPU and restart, that's all that is needed. But please note that 64-bit kernel always displays "SMP" tag even though VM would have only a single CPU.

If you want to get better performance from your CPU Linux 1 Add 'divider = 10 nosmp noapic nolapic' kernel grub.conf and reboot parameters, visible difference is perhaps not huge but on a busy machine ready time virtual host ESX % will decrease considerably.

I have a few Linux SUSE virtual machines who don't use all their vCPUs.  If I turned off the VM and I remove one vCPU, what is the risk for the stability of the operating system when it starts with one less vCPU?

I think it should be fine - I would go ahead and try - stop the removal of the VM the vCPUs and restart - if not restart read the vCPU and you need to replace the kernel that supports the new number of vCPU said.

  • Satellite A100: Cannot install recovery after having deleted the Ubuntu partition

    Hello friends,

I have the Satellite A 100. I was using dual OS - windows vista home edition and Ubuntu. Now I wanted to remove Ubuntu and so I did the stupidest thing - directly delete the partition with Ubuntu which had the GRUB files. Then to the laptop computer restart of course the Grub bootloader wasn't there and if the computer is not started or load any OS. Then I thought that I will reinstall Vista with product recovery CD but the progress reached at 2% and then I keep getting error 1117 a failure to read. I tried so many times without success. I even tried to install XP, but it says Intel boot agent cannot make connection. And it also fails.

Please help to reinstall Vista or XP. I'm really stuck and I learned a lesson not to tinker in mobile when it isn't those of Cup of tea!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    > Now if I download EasyBCD how would I be able to run it or how should I use it?
You will not be able to run EasyBCD because you are not able to boot Vista.
EasyBCD can be installed only in Vista and will allow you to change the Vista Boot Manager.

I think you need to format the entire disk HARD again should erase all partitions and must attempt to reinstall Vista.

I recommend using a free tool called GParted LiveCD. Google for what it helps format the HARD drive!

  • Accidentally deleted Windows 7 during the attempt to dual boot with Ubuntu

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Service number: ADMIN NOTE: maintain the label removed by privacy policy >

In trying to dual boot my system with Ubuntu, I accidentally erased Windows 7 during the partition. I bought my system used in a store and now I need a way to get Windows 7. I don't want to pay too much for the support. I talked to a Dell technician and they said for security systems that they charged $120 for each case. I don't know how true it is or if there are exceptions. I'm not quite willing to pay $120 for support, because I paid only about US $300 for the system. If I were asked to pay US $120 for it, I might as well buy a new one right? It is not that I am not willing to pay for support, but if the charge is a significant percentage of the value of the system, I am not prepared to pay for it.

Any help you can give me in this regard will be highly appreciated.

    Thank you

You can try Windows 10 TH2 by yourself... If you like it then you don't need to pay Windows 7 media and/or to obtain from an unofficial source.

There are always positive and negative comments on versions of Windows. Windows ME, Vista and 8 in particular had the worst critics... In my opinion Windows 10 is a good successor to Windows 7 (Windows 8 was not).

If you don't like it then you can get the DVD on eBay. The restorediscs is probably just copied a DVD to reinstall Dell Windows 7 send. There are debates or no eBay or these sources media buy is authentic or not. The license is tied to the Windows 7 COA affixed to your computer, so from a technical point of view it does not matter where you get the installation media.

  • Java applets on "Allow and Remember" shows nothing (Ubuntu)

I tried the Java 7 update to Java 8 because of the safety block Firefox did the plugin Java 7 - However, even after I deleted libnpjp2.so(as root) in order to update the plugin and make a new hard link to the 8 libnpjp2.soJava, he always tells me that I use a version of Java insercure and even if I click on 'Allow and Remember' or "Now allow" the Java applet shows me nothing but a White Plains region when the applet has been, (see attachments). I have not tried reinstall Java because I do not know how and I don't think it would help in this case. I also tried to use IcedTea to execute Java applets. My Java is installed but a PPP as appearently "default-jre" is updated. Java programs that are downloaded (e.g. Minecraft) still work. This is a mistake on the side of Firefox, or I have it will be proposing to the Ubuntu Forums?

  • Since the upgrade to 31.7.0 I can't delete or move messages SOLVED by updating to the version 38

    Hello

on Wednesday I have Thunderbird updated to Version 31.7.0 on Ubuntu 14.04. After the reboot, I am not able to delete messages in one of my accounts. I have 12 accounts, two of them are POP accounts, either use IMAP. Thunderbird recognize correctly as junk mails, but I am not able to move them to the trash. Also if I try to send a mail, Thunderbird can not move mail in the sent or drafts folder. If I want to move an email to a folder to another, can't do too.

Sometimes after a fresh reboot of Thunderbird, I can delete and send mails without problems, but after a while, the problems occur again. It is very annoying and I don't know why this is happening. I even deleted my Trash.msg and the corresponding files, then created a new folder in Thunderbird trash, because I, although there is a problem with this file. Interestingly, he worked for a while and I was able to delete emails, but in the first place it has nothing to do with the problems of moving emails, save in drafts or sent folder.
I also copied my entire profile of ~/.thunderbird/xxxxxxx folder. Nicolas ~/.thunderbird/xxxxxxx. Nicolas2 and added to profiles.ini, but which didn't help. -safe-mode is also not working, and even remove the largest of all mailboxes mailbox with more that 5 GB of emails helped anything.
Until I forget: I have put all the 'mail.server.serverX.max_cached_connections' to 1 because I found a thread via Google where someone said that would be useful, but it wasn't.

I really appreciate your help! Thank you!

The problem disappeared after the upgrade to version 38. Special icons are all there.

  • I can't delete an add we titled "Y U not validating 2013052401".

I have an add on that is called 'Y U not validate 2013052401' which has no button Delete or be able to find help, said troubleshooting techniques in the Help menu. Any suggestions? I don't know what it is!

You use Firefox on Ubuntu which seems to have some addons managed by the system instead of the browser. First of all, I think that 'Y U not validate' is a good plugin to increase safety in general because it prevents accidentally allowing a false certificate forever.

If you really want to uninstall you will have to remove the addon package. On Ubuntu, this should do the trick:

    $ apt - get remove xul-ext-y-u-no-validate

  • Impossible to open folders in thunderbird or send messages not sent after that computer (ubuntu) closed all of a sudden while using the program

I use ubuntu. The computer ran out of battery power and closed while I was using thunderbird. Restart thunderbird later, I found that I could not open folders or send unsent messages. When I close the program, I can't restart it says that thunderbird is already open, but if I use thunderbird killall-9 I tells me there is no thunderbird running process. I checked my profile and there is no lock file or parentlock. Someone suggested the deletion of the database of messages of global reach, but this did not help at all.

  • Cannot synchronize 30.0 FF on Ubuntu with an existing session on FF 29.0.4 W $ 7

    Hello

I've used for a long time FF on W$ 7 to surf.
I have a long list of bookmarks. I would return on a ubuntu for my daily surf session, and I want to synchronize my W7 FF settings with the newly installed Ubuntu FF.
But it does not work. W7 use FF 29.0.4 and Ubuntu use 30.0 FF.
On W7, I selected in the settings menu of the option "erase all other session settings and use the settings of this session for all other FF sessions.
On ubuntu, the synchronization session is properly connected, but no import apply.
This version of FF contains an option to 'reset all settings and import the settings to default profiles'.
If I go in the options of the sync settings, I can just disconnect, change password or delete account.

    What should I do?

    Thank you

Looks like the previous sync, and used version in Firefox 28 and more.

See this KB article - synchronize your bookmarks from Firefox, history, passwords, etc.

  • Delete my data from a browser using Firefox Sync navigation

Yesterday I started using a tab in Firefox for Android, but I accidentally spent in a regular tab. And a junk site got registered in my story and as semi-automatic sugestion... I have not found a way to remove these individual entries, I'm desperate so I deleted all navigation data in Firefox for Android. I use Firefox Sync and I still have my old data in my phone (it uses Ubuntu), but I tried and I can't get the old data in Android.

    I have 3 questions:
-Is is possible to remove entries of the individual history and AutoComplete suggestion in Firefox for Android?
-Is it possible to recover the old data of navigation in my Android device?

    Hello
    Yes and Yes.

    1. You can open a new tab and see the history list. TAP and hold unwanted history and select 'delete '.
    2. You'd have to synchronize the device on the account. Also you can drag to the story in a new tab and drag between history and history is synchronizes to confirm if it's there.
  • I would like to completely remove the nightly build of firefox. I searched for this info already and you have not found anything that could help. I am pretty new to linux. I am currently running ubuntu 11.10

I'm just trying to remove every night of my computer. I deleted firefox 10 already. I'm going down to firefox 4, but before I do, I want every night of my computer and it is not listed in the Installer package synaptic or any other. There's a reason I want the old version of firefox, but I won't get into that right now. It is a totally different matter. But I'm pretty new to linux, so please try to give directions or answers in a way that I will be able to understand if possible. Thank you for your time.

10 a 1 of Firefox is an older version (Aurora/Nightly) alpha.

Is this a version that you have installed yourself from the Mozilla server or is this a version from the repositories of Ubuntu?

In the latter case, you will need to use the installation and remove the item from your Linux distribution software.

If you have installed Firefox yourself, then you can simply delete the Firefox installation directory.

One possible cause is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

  • Firefox slowing down to stop (for > 1.5 min) to load the site and freezes any Ubuntu 11.10, modern system.

    Hi guys,.

I have been using Ubuntu 11.10 since it was beta with no problems. I have been regularly updating everything, and keep a clean track with sudo apt-get autoremove and sudo apt-get clean. Even with all updates, firefox was running completely fine until just last week. If an update came out in the last month, that may be it. My updates are up to the month at least.
As soon as I open firefox, it pretends to load, before freezing (and turning gray). At that point, my entire system hangs. I have updated everything. I have apt-get remove firefox'ed, apt-get autoremove/clean, then apt-get install firefox'd. I have started in firefox -safe-mode with all options checked. I have, of course, rebooted several times. I have run firefox without, then after deleting every, add-on. I have even searched for log files in .mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports, but found none (a bunch of tmp and extra files). I've tried starting firefox under Ubuntu classic instead of Unity. These are all my online searches have found.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 on Intel i7-960 in an Intel DX58SO2 with 8gb mem, and EVGA superclocked pci-express video adapter. nvidia is properly configured. No other program at all hangs but firefox, which is why I'm here and not in the Ubuntu forums.
       Thank you for your help.

I followed the advice of one of the posts
here , to rename the folder .mozilla and it worked. I would like to add, however, that it's very embarrassing and all your custom settings and bookmarks and Favorites etc. will be wiped. I would like to know what causes this, and my satisfaction with firefox is declining.
    Still better than IE...
