Unable to activate windows xp on the old computer after reinstalling

I am the resurrection a storage computer that was purchased in 2007 with Windows XP Home Edition.  I formatted the hard drive, because he had some problems before and reinstalled windows.  He now wants me to turn on, but when I use the phone service or try to enter the product key in the activation of the sticker on my computer window it says it is invalid.  Is it because he has been activated before or because it's really old? Is it possible to go beyond that?  Everything works fine on my computer, but when I try to use windows update, it won't let me.  He says I have 30 days in my grace period, though. Thank you in advance for your help!

To analyze and solve problems for Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to the desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the button continue, which will produce the report.
To copy the report in your response, click the button copy in the tool (ignore the error at this stage), and then paste (using r-click and paste or Ctrl + V) in your response.

Please also state the Version and edition of Windows cited on your COA sticker (if you a) in the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but does NOT quote the key on the sticker!

Did you use the same edition of Windows, as it is on the sticker to reinstall?

Have you used an OEM drive or retail to reinstall?

  • Unable to activate Windows XP Professional in my computer

Install a MEMORY card for more memory, (512 MB) turned on the computer, a message appears saying: we recognize the new hardware and I need to activate Windows.

Followed the steps to activate windows. Problem is this;  the activation window when you plug the key codes are not shown the rectangular boxes. All that appears is an area of blue color with nothing written in it, or the boxes to enter key codes. I tried to locate a phone number to call tech support but impossible to find or get one. What can I do to activate windows in my computer?       Is there a phone number I can call for technical support?

Your system seems to be an IBM (now Lenovo) ThinkCenter A50?

Your product key seems to be OK - and everything seems OK.

I can only assume that all what you need to do is to re - activate by phone.

Note that if telephone activation fails when you use the automated service, it is usually better hang up, and then phone back - this time do NOT respond when the servie ask what service you need. This should force the operator to pick up, which may solve your problem.

  • Unable to see the old partition after reinstalling windows XP

I got a BSOD error and might not work in safe mode or any mode - so I rebooted my Windows XP - he was asked to create a new partition to NTFS - so I said yes.

Present on disk 0 - and now I have a clean copy of XP identified as C: - NTFS drive.  I also see a volume that is unmarked and has the FAT 32 file.

I would like to convert the FAT file NTFS - but need a drive letter assigned to execute the command.  I there a way to recover a drive letter for this partition unamed?

Run Disk Manager (start > run > diskmgmt.msc), right click on the partition and assign a drive letter.

A better way, if you do not need the data on the FAT32 partition, is to delete the partition, create a new partition and format it NTFS.

  • OEM Windows 7 installation on another computer after the first dead

I recently bought a laptop computer without an operating system, and the seller I sold separately an OEM Windows 7 Professional version. I installed and activated this version of Windows. I must return this laptop because I was not satisfied with it. The seller will refund me the price of the laptop, but not Windows. Can I use this version of Windows, or do I have to just eat the cost?

OEM cannot be moved to a new computer. You will need to buy another copy to install Windows on another computer.

Can move you to a new Windows 7 computer

If it's a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on a single computer at a time (and if it's a Windows 7 Upgrade version the new computer must have its own XP/Vista license qualification). The previous installation of Windows 7 on the old computer must be formatted or deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer. The key works with 32 and 64 bit, but can only be installed at a time.

If it's an OEM license - don't. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.

  • reuse the license of Windows XP from the old office to the new office

We have 4 old desktop computers with windows xp I want to reuse the license of Windows XP from the old office to the new office

I bought a HP desktop computer and dell preinstalled with Windows XP. The office has not worked for a few years, he has the processor are P4 and slow work.

I recently bought a desktop computer and wanted to know can I use the same license key to get Windows XP installed on my new desktop computer.

Note: I have lost my original installation of windows CD but have the office and Windows XP product code is available to me.

The old HP desktop and dell came with a license with the sticker on the side.

Any PC which came with a sticker with a key to activate product on it has a license that is related to this PC (and only this PC) for ever. It is not legal to install on a PC using the key videos from another PC.

If the PC you want to install XP on still has its sticker, then as much as you have a compatible installation XP CD, XP can be re-installed using the key on the sticker.

Only commercial versions of XP can be moved from one PC to another. With the commercial versions, the activation key came with the media, not on a label stuck on the PC.

  • I got a new computer (an old dies) new a windows vista and I have to disable the old computer before I load the same copy of Vista on my new computer. If yes how can I do this?

I got a new computer (an old dies) new a windows vista and I have to disable the old computer before I load the same copy of Vista on my new computer.  If yes how can I do this?

If Vista is preinstalled on your OLD computer, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.

The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

If a license of Vista at retail, you can transfer it to another computer/laptop.
But it can only be installed on one computer at a time.

A single license is a single Installation.

If it is a retail Vista license, read the information on the clean install and then reactivate it:

    concerning

This happens often because he sees it used already on your own computer (it can not make a difference).  If you mean that you can not activate automatically, try to do it manually:

To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation, but it's the same PC and only installed on this PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

If my HARD drive crashes and I have to replace, can I reinstall Windows 7 on the same computer? How the product key is affected? He still believes that I am still on the old HDD?

    Yes.

    Not at all.

    N °

If you have Windows 7 with an OEM license agreement (it came pre-installed on the computer is the most likely scenario for this, but you can buy OEM copies so) or you have a license to retail (upgrade or full version) - the way your question is worded is very specific - you * can * install Windows 7 costs/clean on this same system as much as you wish.  A new hard drive won't stop you activation - well that at some point, you need to activate by phone, as opposed to over the Internet.

Now - if the motherboard is replaced and it's licensed OEM and replacement was not that of the OEM that probably set up your computer...  Then you have a problem.

Unless you happen to have a license of Windows 7 retail sales, so it is not related to the computer (motherboard).
