Unable to close/remove tabs in Safari

Since Update 9.3.1 on iPad 2 air, there is no 'X' on any tab Safari makes it impossible to delete tabs. I stopped and restarted several times, but the tabs automatically re - appear. I have reviewed the settings, deleted the data from the cache and Web site. That's all I can think to do. Any suggestions?

On my iPad Air, with the same software update, the 'x' is clearly visible and works as expected. I have noticed subtle differences in the functioning of these two units, but this is a first for me, to have a real malfunction with the updated software.

Appreciate your thoughts.

The x must be in the tab to the right. It is not tap two places in the upper right corner, then click the x on the thumbnail, or drag the thumbnail to the left to remove.

Try a reboot.

Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolate a problem by using a different user account

If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account. Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

• Unable to convince Firefox close several tabs without asking confirmation

Using Linux Mint 13 Maya with Firefox 35.0.1. If I try to close firefox after having several tabs open, I get the message "do you want Firefox to save your tabs for the next time it starts? Check "do not ask next time" has no effect. Next time, he will do the same boring. Went to preferences, tabs and found the box checked to "warn me when closing multiple tabs". Not checked the box, it remains unchecked, but I always get the same annoying message whenever I try to close several tabs. I really don't understand why this might be a desirable feature. I hate a computer program trying to do my thinking for me! Yes hell I want to close all tabs, I clicked on the 'X', I don't? I despise also semi-automatic and almost all the other annoying features trying to do my thinking for me - especially those that I can't turn it OFF. I want my PC to do exactly what I said, LOL!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

• Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
• Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe

If you do not keep the changes after a reboot or have problems with preferences, see:

You can watch the resignations and warn the prefs on the topic: config page.

It spent last few days... the tabs are displayed on the tab bar, but do not open upward or close when I try to close... when I tried "close all tabs", who says so "you try to close the 2 tabs", they are not counted as being open... the only way I can get rid of them is Firefox is completely closed and then it starts again. Ghost tabs!

I solved the problem, but not using the "safe mode".
After going into safe mode and close and open FF again;
I then had to dl the latest version of FFox... 33.0 (I had 32.0) online, a friend told me there was an update for it... found 33.0.1.i and dl who had, then restarted my computer.
I found that the new version had removed many of my fave on my 'personal bar '... icons I have them back by going to this:
'Classic theme restaurateur' found in 'modules '.
I didn't add "colorful tabs" again...

In addition, an easy solution... my mousepad has been 'sticky'... by removing just, my mouse works much better on my desk...

now, everything is back to normal... no pop up several tabs, even in typing emails is better now as well.

• Tabs in Safari for gmail eat much memory a lot. Why?

After I installed 10.11.4 on my 2012 13 "MacBook Pro with 4 GB of RAM, I found a lot of to use it. Recently, when I have frustrated its use, I checked the activity monitor and found that Safari tablets ONLY for gmail eats a lot a lot of memory, which seems ridiculous to me.

Gmail has been known to be a very light e-mail client. But I see that just by opening gmail inbox page, takes about 250 to 300 MB of RAM memory. And after a while (20-30 seconds) the consumption of memory goes up to 450 to 600 MB. I usually keep an eye gmail open in my safari browser all the time to check emails and not to close. (I do not use Mac Mail application, thinking that the Mail app will eat more memory than tabs in Safari). I also have emails with the normal text or advertising emails. No data high image or video files in my regular emails.

Here are the data of the activity monitor. Look at the memory for the process "mail.google.com":-the largest is 692MB taken up by a tab.

Answer please, if any of you are also facing this problem. Is this a bug of Mac OS or Gmail bug? Or if there is no solution to this.

Hello...

See if that makes a difference...

In your Safari menu bar, click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab, then click: delete all data of the website can leave and then restart Safari to test.

• When I close the tabs, it is said there are several open tabs I have open

For example if I have 5 tabs open and I try to close them, he asks me if I want to close all tabs (not 5) 6. He always is + 1 more open tab. Why is this?

Thanks for your replies. I think I've nailed it. There was this program Yandex, I removed it, but when I used to open new tabs there Yandex in the new tab page, so I removed it completely new and I think that solved my problem. Thanks again

• How can I use keyboard to close other tabs.

I often use "Close" other tabs. in the menu you get by right-clicking on a tab. I wish I could to that without using the mouse. However, I was unable to find a keyboard shortcut that will show you this tabs context menu. Is this one? Or is there a shortcut for "close other tabs". ?

You are right. Sorry about that, my old brain does not always work as it should.

• When I close a tab, the focus goes on the right. How can I turn left at the place?

When I encounter a link on a web page, I usually open it in a new tab. This tab appears to the right of the current tab. I then select the new tab to see the link. When I finished and close this new tab, the focus goes to the tab to the right if we're here (usually the case for me), but I would have preferred the focus to return to the tab to the left, where I came from, and are therefore automatically. How can I change the direction of focus when I close a tab to remove the click of the mouse to select the previous tab?

• Close all tabs in TabPane

I have this code it is very basic and it is used to close all tabs in a TabPane.

MenuItem item4 = new MenuItem("Close All Tabs");
item4.setOnAction(new EventHandler<ActionEvent>()
{
@Override
public void handle(ActionEvent e)
{
System.out.println("Close All Tabs");
int ee = tabPane.getTabs().size();
tabPane.getTabs().remove(0, ee);
}
});

I want to optimize this part of the code:

int ee = tabPane.getTabs().size();
tabPane.getTabs().remove(0, ee);

Is there a clear and optimized alternative?

tabPane.getTabs () .clear ();

• Dynamic tab Interface User Shell - close the tab action & number of open tabs control

Hello
I browsed the forum, but could not get their hands on a concrete solution to the issue on how to capture the event action to close the tab and perform an action on this?
The thread below about my question, but doesn't seem to have a good solution
Re: Dynamic tab Interface User Shell: control icon close

And another question, currently in the TabContext the number of open tabs is at the limit of 15. How can I replace only such that I do not allow more than 7 tabs open at the same time?

Please help me with the two queries above. Thank you!

Kind regards
SS

Sorry for the delay so much. Finally got some time to play with the model and by downloading the source code for dynamicTabTemplate and substituting the closeIcon worked like a charm.
Let me summarize what I did to help someone who is looking for it :)
(1) download the source code for dynamicTabTemplate
(2) added and additional attribute to the model closeTab
++
+closeTab+.
+java.lang.String+.
++
true
+
+
+
+
(2) the dynamicTabShell.jspx edition, closeIcon commanlink actionListener to be linked to the "#{viewScope.tabContext.closeIcon}".
(3) implemented the method of closeIcon in TabContext
+@Override+
+ ' public void closeIcon (ActionEvent actionEvent) {+
CloseIconInterface bean = getBean().
bean.closeIcon (actionEvent);
+}+
(4) generated the jar.
(5) delete the oracle supplied jar dynamicTabTemplate by default and instead added my custom pot generated on demand
(6) implementing the new model
(7) set all attributes with attribute closeTab. It would take the name of BackingBean... example:
(8) xxxBean done to implement CloseTabInterface
(9) implementation of the method closeIcon with custom code to confirm the page close prior to removal of the tab.

However as you say, I will keep tab on the future updates of the default model tab updates fail bug fixes or improvements.

Thanks to all those who have looked into this for me and I hope this helps someone else :)... Good luck!

• How can I close a tab that has locked up, rather than farm the whole browser to be insensitive?

I have a bad habit of having several tabs open. If I click on a link that translates the whole browser becomes unresponsive, how do I close the tab offending rather than having to close the entire browser and losing all my tabs?

It is not a bad habit, it's normal.

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to 'kill' a single tab without picking up Firefox.

A few times a week I get "not responding" when I exceed the amount of memory Firefox can use. Usually about 60-90 seconds, I can close Firefox by using the menu, either:

• "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
• (menu bar) File > Exit
• These same keys in order:Alt f x

Freezes caused by other reasons could not out, in which case you get stuck. Prevention is the best cure.

This support article covers some common reasons for freezes: Firefox crashes or does not - how to fix.

Since the Flash plugin can also cause this problem and it is used everywhere around the web, I suggest the following to minimize potential problems with Flash in your troubleshooting:

(1) to avoid unnecessary pain on the sites where the Flash is not really essential, try to set the Flash on Click-to-Play (Ask 'activation'). This will delay the Flash start on a page, until you approve.

To set 'Ask to activate', open the page modules using either:

• CTRL + SHIFT + a
• "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. Search 'Shockwave Flash' and always change 'enable' to 'ask to activate '.

With this setting, when you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and usually (but not always) one of the following values: a link in a gray rectangle dark in the page or an information bar sliding between the toolbar and in the page area.

The plugin notification in the address bar icon usually resembles a little Lego block, dark gray. (If it is red, Flash must update.)

The delay in the activation of Flash can help distinguish between the problems caused on the initial page load, put in folds and script activation vs Flash/loading bar.

If you see a good reason to use Flash, and the site looks trustworthy, you can go ahead and click on the notification icon in the address bar to allow Flash. You can trust the site for the time being or permanently.

But some pages use Flash only for tracking or play ads, so if you do not see an immediate need for Flash, feel free to ignore the notification! He will just stand here in case you want to use it later.

(2) a common cause of errors in script does not work in Windows Vista and later is the feature of mode of the Flash player plugin. This feature has the security benefits, but it seems to have serious compatibility problems on some systems. You can disable it using the page modules. Either:

• CTRL + SHIFT + a
• "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. On the right side, find 'Shockwave Flash' and click on the link for more. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and try it for a day to see if that helps you.
