Unmountable boot on A40 disk error
Hello
This morning my Toshiba Satellite A40 gave me the following error message:
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DRIVE
And the tech info is:
STOP: 0X000000ED (0X857DFE30, 0XC0000015, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)
Microsoft site support Web tells me how to solve this problem by using the windows xp installation CD - but all I have is the Toshiba Recovery CD - and even that won't work not because he cannot mount the drive to be able to format it!
I would greatly appreciate help on how to address this issue.
Thank you
Samir
Hello
If you can not get a XP CD from somewhere, you should go to a Toshiba service partner, if you do not want to reinstall the whole system.
Good bye

Hello
I agree with Guybrush. The error seems to be related to the boot file system is defective and new resettlement could help.
As we have already mentioned, the Toshiba Recovery CD could be controlled using the adresse_web above.
If you are owner of an old series of laptop then the recovery CD could be ordered in the local ASP.But generally, you can use a Microsoft operating system CD too.
You could install windows using this CD and all Toshiba drivers can be downloaded from the Toshiba driver page.Concerning

boot problems after "disk error-checking/control - automatically fix file system errors.
I ran the two options 'check disk' after deleting some old programs and was prompted to restart. When it restarts it was all white screen, then I stop after waiting a few minutes using the power button. now it won't start at all - I have white screen and cannot even get into safe mode by pressing F8. white screen and the fan runs. I is not original boot CD, so tried a CD recovery Norton but would not start from that. I checked the monitor cables.
It's a 2002 eveshamvale:
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. 8ID533 1.x
The bus clock: 100 MHz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 6.00 PG 11/11/2002would be grateful for any ideas.
Thank youIf you used the power switch, you can inadvertently damage your file system, so before wasting time to try a bunch of things, I could do this (or you may be wasting a lot of time to try things too):
The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination? (This includes the plug pulling, buttons power and removing the battery).
These can cause corruption in the file system that must be fixed before you do anything else.
If none of these events occurred (or even if they have not taken place), you must verify the integrity of your file system before anything else (especially "try" things).
There is zero logic to begin to try to begin to try to modify or copy files to a hard drive that has a corrupted file system, so this must first be fixed using the XP chkdsk program and run chkdsk on your hard drives may solve your problem completely.
Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do. Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.
Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.
If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.
This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.
You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.
The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:
xp_rec_con. ISO
Download the ISO from here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig
Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:
Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:
http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61
It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.
You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive. These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load. If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.
When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:
Press any key to boot from CD...
Installing Windows... going to pronounce.
Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.
Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)
You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).
You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS. It's the same as the
C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.
The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.
For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:
A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.
In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.
Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem. It won't hurt anything to run it.
Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:
CHKDSK C: /r
Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.
It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck". Be patient. If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something. Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress. It may even seem to go back sometime.
You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.
Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.
You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

Hello
· Remember to make changes to the system?
It may be that your hard drive is damaged, I suggest to run chkdisk\r and check if you are able to boot to the desktop. To do this, you must boot into the recovery console, and then run the command.
a. Boot into the recovery console. Check the steps that are mentioned in the link given below.
Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console for advanced users
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314058
(b) to fix the errors, look for bad sectors and recover readable information, at the command prompt, typechkdsk volume: /r, and then press ENTER.
I suggest you return the item mentioned below.
When you restart your computer or upgrade to Windows XP, you receive the error message "STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME".

BSoD Unmountable Boot Volume error message
This morning my laptop was running slowly and I executed a forced shutdown. When you turn on the computer, I kept getting a blue screen with the error message "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME". All the options I tried met the same fate. I have the recovery disk and tried to use it to fix the system. However, after stopping race/spinning drive, only a black screen remained and remained it up to with no progress for more than 3 minutes more. I don't remember what is the code, but I'll take a look later, when I try again with the recovery disc to attempt to repair the system. I have looked through all the answers to previous questions to the BSoD Unmountable Boot Volume error and see if it is of help.
Are there suggestions more with this issue? I try to keep spending as cheap as possible. Thank you.
Hello
Try the steps listed here
Thanks, but I already went out a bought a new computer. I'll keep these steps in mind if I encounter this error again.

R61 R &; R does not start after the "unmountable boot volume" error
Hi all
New user, first post - after problem, of course.
I have a Thinkpad R61 with Windows XP on it. (SP2 or SP3, not sure). Worked without problem for years, and then the other day I got the dreaded "unmountable boot volume" error and it would not start.
No problem - I have reboot, hit the ThinkVantage button, then press F11 to use the R & R hidden on a separate hard disk partition... I get the black screen with progress bar big, okay, then a blue screen... then nothing. Hang up and sits there. I've told about 5 times now.
No problem! -J' was smart enough to make a CD R & R defined earlier. The main R & R disc in the CD drive, turn on the machine, the ThinkPad, F12 button this time choose to boot from the CD... much activity follows and once more, I get the black screen with progress bar big. It takes a lot more time then I get the blue screen - BUT - he took the extra step to display the "ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery 4" with the image of lifejacket.
Excellent, I thing - but it crashes then it. He's here. No disk activity. No key won't do anything.
I can't find any thread here or on any other forum with this particular issue.
Am I fubar? Or is there something else I can do?
Thanks to a bouquet.
Hi jim, welcome to the forums.
Is the drive recognized in the BIOS, there was an entry in the startup list against HDD0?
No matter what it projected in BIOS / boot list or not, the first thing I would do is to reinstall the hard drive and see if that helps, maybe with the time he lost contact to the Jack from the motherboard. If you are unsure how to do this you can find on the R61 movie site.
The next thing I would do is run a check on a cd bootable hard drive Diagnostics, these can be downloaded from websites of all manufacturers drive HARD for example Hitachi Drive Fitness Test. Maybe it's that the reader simply went bad after all these years of work.
Let us know how you go

E1505 disk hard blue screen Unmountable Boot Volume
Hello Dell Community.
I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop and while I turned on my laptop yesterday, I received this error went to blue screen during the loading of the Windows logo screen. I restarted and it told me that Windows did not start successfully, so it gave me options of how to start as: start Windows normally or in Safe Mode. Regardless of what I chose, the same thing would happen, the blue screen appears with the error reading "Unmountable Boot Volume". So I ran a diagonistic test on my whole computer and everything going on, but the hard drive. The disk error message hard read was:
Error code: 0F00:0244
MSG block: error impossible to correct data or media is write protected
I don't know what to do with my computer, because I can't go any further than the Windows XP loading screen, because it stops just loading and the blue screen appears. So I can't uninstall a program or data from my computer.
Help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

# You see Toshiba welcome screen?
# When you press power button / stop at what exactly happens?Help us to understand the your problem please.

If I press f1 it will then boot to windows, but I need to cure the problem with the disk error message
Hello petertomblin,
It seems that this message is coming because of settings in the BIOS.
The computer has a floppy drive?
If so, is it operational?
Nevertheless, we want to get into the BIOS and disable the startup procedure floppy drive,
It is this best with support of the manufacturer of your.
PLEASE NOTE:
BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.
Best regards

Disk error non system at boot when using the external USB disk
Hello
I use Windows 7 Pro. I have a Seagate external USB disk causing a "Non-system disk error" at startup.I had the same problem with a Clickfree drive. The problem occurs on my other PC with different versions of Windows. How can I get my computer to start and not give me this error message for my backup drive? At startup (when the drive disconnected), I get a screen of BACK indicating "Client Mac Addr."... GUID..., DHCP. "I think it's looking for a disk boot from.I just need to boot from the internal hard drive.Thank youASUSB external references aren't desingned to be connected on startup, you must also use the safely remove the procedure and disconnect the USB key before closing.
If you get such a screen "Client Mac Addr... etc" at the start (with usb unplugged), looks like you are using a very old motherboard. If the system starts only with connected usb, then your initial installation of victory is defective or damaged
