Update ESXi with VCenter VM on the host?

I am trying to upgrade my host ESXi 4.1 4.1 Update 1, but the VCenter VM lies on this matter.  I have to do to make sure that the DB VCenter is not corrupt, or can I just stop, put the host in maintenance mode and using esxupdate?

With shared storage, you can:

  • Make sure that you have not activated the mode of locking for guests
  • Stop the vCenter Server VM
  • connection to the host on which it is running and remove it from the inventory
  • connect to the host of the second, browse the data store and add it to the inventory
  • vCenter Server on the second host market

Generally, you will use Update Manager (if you are using vCenter Server), but in cases where this is not possible, you can also use vihostupdate.

I have SRM 6.1 and vSphere replication 6.1 installed on both sites.

The ECP is connected to the vCenter server.

I get this error message: failed to create the protection group. No VRM server registered with vCenter Server for the site 'Live '.

Screenshot attached, no one knows what is happening here?

However, there was a mismatch in the meantime server on all except VRA in the remote site, it is now resolved and the issue disappeared.

Strange, how the error related to the site online, however.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

  • hosts mixed esx 3.5 and older new vsphere with vcenter 4.1 esx hosts. Need advice please.

Hello, I have an existing the vcenter server install managing two esx 3.5 hosts. The vcenter is version 2.5.0.x. I want to manage my new hosts of vsphere 4.1 esxi through the vcenter. I would check that if I improve my vcenter 2.5.0 for the last version vcenter Server required for the 4.1 that I will be able to manage my old esx 3.5 hosts? Will be an upgrade inplace vcenter 2.5.0.x support now the license server in place or I will have to manually install this after? Thanks for any info. Doug Dorbuck

You can mange ESX 3.x host with vCenter 4.x - you can't manage ESX 4.x, vCenter 2.x hosts

I think that in a place of upgrade will keep the license server - otherwise you will need to reinstall the server-licensing

  • Shrink a Linux VM to esxi with Vcenter Converter 4

    Hello

I spend some time to try to reduce my VM but without real success so far.

I tried to use vCenter Converter 4.0 to do, but to to esxi esxi, it doesn't show the option in the drop-down list.

So I tried to export it to Vmware Workstation, and between a 71 GB VM, I had a VM 21 GB, which is much better! However, esxi cannot use format Worstation, and when I try to convert again, I find myself with the initial size of my VM...

Anyone know how I can shrink my VM in a way that I can still use them on esxi?

    Thank you very much.

You can use Linux P2V Converter Standalone4.0 to this (share).  You treat just the source of the virtual machine as a physical machine.  Then, you select a smaller size for the individual volumes in the 3rd page of the wizard.

  • ESXi with VMI active on the computer, virtual and active in the kernel Linux = 10 x slower

I have a performance problem with VMI enabled on Linux systems and of ESXi, does anyone have any advice for me?

I have four boxes of ESXi.  One on one processor 1.26 Ghz, with double Hyperthreaded 2.26 Ghz (4 logic), one with dual Hyperthreaded 1.4 Ghz (4 logic) and the other on a single 3.0 Ghz hyperthreading.

I don't think that any of them have hardware virtualization instructions Intel VI.  I use ESXi 3.5 U3 as host and Gentoo 2.6.26 as the client OS.

I tried activating VMI on every machine and every time I do, the virtual machine performance is reduced by a factor of 4 to 10 times.  For example:

    Portage: game Dec 18 08:13:29 2008: 43 seconds

    Portage: Fri Dec 19 02:58:21 2008: 167 seconds

    Portage: Fri Dec 19 03:01:57 2008: 193 seconds

    Portage: Sat Dec 20 23:40:14 2008: 54 seconds

Here are 4 emerges on Gentoo.  One with tickless and VMI disabled (43 seconds), one with active Tickless and VMI in ESXi and Gentoo paravirtual active VMI, one with HZ = 100 and active VMI and the last with tickless and VMI disabled (54 seconds).

What I find online suggest VMI (when enabled in the kernel and in the .vmx file) should increase the speed or to all the least to stay the same.  I worked on it for a week and google to death on it.  I have consulted with other people running ESXi and they can reproduce the same problem when using Gentoo.  I have not tried Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn or any other OS, but I don't think that would matter much.

    Hi Nick,

This is related to a core issue that we have identified a few days back.  I posted a patch to fix the problem on this thread.

    http://lkml.org/LKML/2009/2/6/339

Can you or someone else see what you problem apply the patch from this link and see if that fixes the problem for you.

This bug has been introduced in the about 2.6.25 kernel for every kernel 2.6.25 from time will be bad.

    Thank you

    Alok

  • 6 fusion works with El Capitan in the host operating system?

I saw the thread on the Fusion 7 and El Capitan, but I wonder about the Fusion 6 and El Capitan.  I know that El Capitan works as a guest OS with Yosemite as the host and the latest version of Fusion 6 (I'm under the commercial version of El Capitan in a virtual machine on my Yosemite iMac running), but I have not really improved none of my systems to El Capitan again.

    Thank you.

I use 6 merger with AE Capitan. It seems.

I wonder if I change all hypervisors to ESX 4.1, ESXi 4.1, some of the advanced features such as HA and FT are still available or not.

    HA & FT are permitted.

    Thank you.

    Hello

ESXi has all the features of ESX when full his license.

Although you no longer have a service console, you will still be able to use HA / DRS / FT / pools of resources etc.

ESXi is not an ESX reduced in functionality, it just has a smaller footprint.

  • Update ESXi with a Virtual Center Server

    Hello

I've updated a Standalone ESXi server using this guide

    http://www.vmadmin.co.UK/VMware/35-esxserver/262-esxvihostupdate

It works the same way during the updating of the ESXi servers that are under a virtual Center Server?

    Thank you

as part of the upgrade, using Crossover, a new vCenter agent is pushed. So, no, you don't break anything.

Buffer Cache Hit Ratio is the percentage of sql server pages requested and retrieved from the buffer cache without reading disc.

It is not necessarily a problem. A way to increase the buffer Cache Hit Ratio might be to increase the memory on the virtual computer. If you feel that the performance is not a problem, you can modify the rule so that it is less than 90% so that the rule is triggered, but Microsoft recommends 90 + %.

  • Upgrade to 4.1 - U1 with stains staged on the host

I want to upgrade the two hosts that are running 4.0 to 4.1 U1 U2.  A host has some stage patches for 4.0.  Is it possible to not restore the patches and apply the upgrade?  They will delete after the upgrade?  Or what I need to fix these updates staged, and then restore the upgrade?

    Thank you

You can go ahead and clean up the upgrade of base without cleaning up the existing staging patches.

VUM will return the error incase there is no freespace available for upgrade packages.

  • Cannot update Table with form data in the SQL statement

Hello. Joined the zip file of the error and the cfm 2 pages... selectstudents.cfm goes first.

The question I have, is that the database is not being updated when I run the page editroster.cfm, submitted from the selectstudents.cfm page. Students #FORM. Exercise #_Class column should be filled with the #URL. ClassID # if the box is checked on the selectstudents.cfm page.

Thanks for the help! It is appreciated

I swear that I can kill text editor enriched this forum before the day is done (it can not be me). He stripped the part of the code for the function ListQualify. It should be

    WHERE Ad_Username IN (#ListQualify(Form.Checkbox,"'")#)

The single quote was somehow unpacked since the quotation marks that surround it.

  • Restart host ESXi 4.0 with vCenter 4.0 as a virtual machine

I have two hosts ESXi 4.0:

    1. the host 1 has vCenter 4.0 installed as a virtual machine with a VMware data recovery VM and some other virtual machines.

2 host 2 has a number of virtual machines.

I want to restart the first host and level to ESXi 4.0 Update 1 - I won't stop VMs on host 2, and I want to improve it yet.

My plan is to stop all VMs on host 1 letting the vCenter VM until the last. I have then place my host in maintenance mode and run the host update application to install the update which will then require a restart of course. Once restarted, I'll connect to host 1 directly by using the vSphere client and restart the VM vCenter. I will then restart all my other virtual machines.

Is this sound OK? VCenter will restart Fortunately?

You can also power off the vCenter, register on the other (ESX) If you have the shared storage and try again.

Be sure only to say I_moved about the question that appear when you turn on the virtual computer.

  • Unable to connect to update ESXi host to vCenter

So I have a client who does the following:

Added several hosts, vCenter, went to install the updates using the Update Manager.  Host selected and selected re-mediation.  Server through the remediation proposals and restarted.  After server comes back online after the first reboot, it is impossible to connect to vCenter.

    Updated version: 5.5U3b ESXi

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sean.

    Hello

I assume that your customer has forgotten to update the vCenter server before it has updated the hosts.

You must have at least version 5.5 U3b on the vCenter to manage the hosts of these version.

  • Update the host ESX 3.5 and 2.5 to Vcenter

    Hello

I'm new to editing an entire ESX infrastructure and would like to know the correct way to update all client Vcenter and Vi ESX hosts.

If I missed any foregoing update please let me know.

What I've done so far is to update all ESX hosts, with the help of VMware Update Manager, they are all being updated now, so, where can I go next, Vcenter, then Vi customers, etc.

    Thank you

    Mike

The upgrade should go as follows:

    1 vCenter

    2 ESX host

    3 VMware Guest Tools.
