Update Manager and ESXi 5.0 to 5.1

Hello

I am trying to upgrade my 5.1 ESXi host using update running 5.0u1 ESXi and vCenter 5.0u1 Manager.

When I import the ESXi VIM ISO 5.1, I get the following error...

Import the ESXi image
VCENTER
The downloaded update package cannot be used with
VSphere VMware Update Manager.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

The appropriate upgrade path is updated to vCenter 5.1 first, and then upgrade the ESXi hosts later. It was the same process for the ages with all the upgrades of version of VMware. The upgrade to vCenter is no problem (is). I can see and manage all hosts ESXi5.0U1, but prefer to use Update Manager vCenter to upgrade their 5.1 rather than on the road to CD, but there is no VIB files ' esxi 5.0-> 5.1 upgrade ' available, so nothing to import in the Update Manager.»

It is not the end of the world, and the upgrade still works I don't know, but I would have thought this VIB would have been available when the 5.1 became available.

No, to manage ESXi 5.0 hosts, you must have vCenter 5.

  • Update Manager and the configuration of Virtual Center database = 1 database or the database even?

We have a small environment VMware - 2-3 hosts, only 5-6 virtual machines for now, perhaps upward at 10-12 during the 2009 year.

I looked at VUM and VC sizing spreadsheets and it seems I can do VC and Crossover work of SQL Express 2005 for 1-3 years, I need patch storage etc. and know that I may need to upgrade.

VC and VUM facilities create their own separate databases or they are combined to form 1 data base?

Or I would be better to buy 1 license Standard SQL with the 10 Cal instead? (I know that this would put the scale easily.)

    Thank you, Tom

If you let the VC and VUM installers create the databases on the instance of SQL SERVER 2005 Express (named SQLEXP_VIM), it will create separate databases for each (VIM_VCDB for vCenter) and VIM_UMDB for the Update Manager. It is possible to have both of them use the same database, if you need to specify the database and ODBC settings in the installer.

Hope that helps! Please, help me by marking my response as "useful" or "correct", if you feel it is useful!

  • Trash Adobe Update Manager and creative cloud

I had Adobe Creative cloud on an old computer, and I used a back-up of this computer on my new. I have more no use for Creative cloud or Manager of Adobe Applications. I tried to screw up folders and files, but the following will not remove:

    Adobe Application Manager:

    AdobePIM.dylib

    adobe_oobelib.dylib

    adobe_upgrade.dylib

    IMSLib.dylib

    p7Native.dylib

    LogSession.framework

    UpdateCore.framework

    Adobe Creative Cloud:

    ContainerBL.dylib

    AppsPanelIL.dylib

    AssetsPanelBL.dylib

    DesignLibraryPlugin.framework

    ExchangePlugin.framework

    libExManCoreLibCoreSync64.dylib

    LiveType.Framework

    MarketPanelBL.dylib

I don't know what here. I want to just get rid of Manager Applications Adobe and creative cloud.

You can remove Adobe Creative Cloud, if you feel, that it is not necessary, but I recommend you continue to manage Adobe applications.

It is very essential for the management of Adobe applications even for the Non-Cloud apps or old version Apps like 5 CS, CS 6... .etc

If you are unable to remove Adobe Creative cloud and Adobe application Manager.

    Try with steps below: L

    Mac:

Applications > utilities > activity monitor.

    (1) launch the activity monitor and "Force quit" all processes associated with Adobe as creative cloud, CoreSync, AAMupdater, AAMupdater notifier, Adobe Crash demon, install, PDAPP configuration... activity monitor etc.

    2) click on the link below and download it & run the cleaning of Adobe tool:

Select the option "Adobe Application Manager for Mac OS X 10.6 or creative office cloud" and then click "clean Selected."

    https://helpx.Adobe.com/content/help/en/Creative-Suite/KB/CS5-cleaner-tool-installation-PR oblems/_jcr_content/hand-Sea/accordion_container_1/accordion-nominal/accordion-point-1/agreement I on-item-par/procedure/proc_par/step_3/step_par/download/file.res/AdobeCreativeCloudCleane r Tool.zip

Then you can try the files in the trash.

    Windows:

Adobe end all processes from the Task Manager.

  • Snapshot and update Manager

    HI guys

I'm new to the VM world, and slowly picking up his songs, I want to understand the Update Manager and snapshot in VMware infrastructure.

Could someone provide me with the link to load a few good documents relating to the object above and it would be wonderful if there is no CBT/video?

  • update a single ESXi host

I have a recovery with a host site (run by a unit of vCenter and windows PSC) which is the site of recovery in a SRM deployment, and it also runs an AD domain controller and replication of vSphere. In addition, of course potentially VMs that can be recovered.

But - I do not know how I will apply the updates to this host? I have no physical box outside the host ESXi itself. I have a VPN to connect with a laptop computer remotely or whatever.

What is the best way to update this host? Things are complicated a bit also because the host has a HP async SAS controller driver (thus, the appropriate driver is NOT included in the usual VMware update packages). In a cluster of stream environment, it's simple, of course - add in a CVS repository, create a baseline that includes the drivers updated to HP, and then set the host mode maint and clean up. Maybe do it twice to catch the updated HP drivers.

But - how the hell is this fact without Update Manager and another host?

If you have any kind of IPMI (ILO since it's HP) draw a HP brand ESXi ISO in there and update that way. After that, you can download kits locally using SSH or the browser to store data and run the beams offline against the host.

  • How to use the Update Manager

I'm going to update ESXi 5.5 hosts my cluster but I know Update Manager component, so I ask if it is possible to host unique patch so that I can test VM on it and then to extend the update to the other guests.

Can you offer me to apply all updates or it is usually to give priority to the security updates? I use Vmware image of HP because my hosts are server blades Proliant.

How can I start? You have to suggest the quick start guide?

Update Manager downloads the list of patches available from vmware.com. To configure the frequency of the update of the repository, click on House. Click the Update Manager icon. On the Configuration tab, click Patch download calendar.

  • Update Manager - never to host reboots

We use the Update Manager (on vcenter 5.1). We have a host with a new esxi installation 5.1 (799733). Using the Update Manager and applying critical patches of host base line tells me there are 111 available patches. If I look at the individual patches contained, most say that the Impact is "Reboot, Maintenance Mode. However when I run the restore, the process only takes around 5 minutes and never restart the host. If I run a scan, it tells me that no update is necessary. It seems that the patches have been applied. However, I fear that it happened so quickly and never required a reboot. Is this a normal behavior. Y at - it another way to confirm that the patches have been applied?

Sounds like the base line does not include the old plates. Choose the option change the base line and:

If you use a fixed baseline, remove patches no ESXi5 from the list.

If a dynamic reference database is used to change the product only to ESXi5.

  • How do you update a host unique vm with Update Manager

I have a single vmware esxi 4.1 host on a remote site and vcenter is a virtual machine, as well as 2 other virtual machines.  It is the target of SRM as well.

In any case, I tried to address updates in the Update Manager and it expires just waiting to the power off vm.  There is no other host VM in this cluster is not as if something can vmotion off.  So I'm wondering because the Update Manager vcenter server running running on THIS host, if it were to close then maybe Update Manager could not perform?

How can I update this host, currently on 4.1.0 260247.

I have an another ESXi 4.0.0 171294 clocked at that site and it can also access the shared storage that can the 4.1 server.  I can't handle this in vCenter and vMotion things to him because I don't have a license to do.  But could I import vcenter to do this and it turns on and then try to restore the other host?

    Thanks for the help.

    patches are cumulative.

you don't need a vma, its good for multiple hosts.

just ssh into your box directly if you have only one box

  • Error 25003 When vSphere Update Manager installation

    Hello everyone

I have a problem install vSphere Update Manager 5.5 on a Windows 2008 R2 server and I do not really get around it.

During the installation of the Update Manager, I get the following error:

Error 25003. To create database tables, the installation failed.

This happens on the installation task "Repository of database creation of VMware vSphere Update Manager".

I know that this error has already been discussed. It seems that this error happens mainly when you are using a remote SQL database. That's what I'm NOT.

My environment is that a domain joined Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard in English. We use the vCenter Server Appliance, so there is no database present on this server. Only, I begin the installation of the Update Manager and use the option to automatically install an instance of SQL Express. Then, this error occurs.

I did another installation of Manager Update on another site without any error.

No clue as to what might cause this error?

    Thank you very much

    René

    Yes, I tried.

During this time, I understood what causes problems. This server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard in English, but with Turkish regional settings.

This locale cause Update Manager produce this Error 25003. Once I changed all the English locale and rebooting the server, then install flawlessy.

This error seems to be known by VMware, but only for vCenter Server installation. VUM also seems to be affected.

    Thanks anyway...

  • vSphere 5 Update Manager

I just read some documents about the Update Manager 5.0

Is it true that you can not patch your Windows VM now with the Update Manager and you must use a third-party product such as WSUS or Security Center etc. - can anyone confirm this?

    Thank you

    Mark

It's true. This was announced when v4.1 is released.

    of http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_vum_41_rel_notes.html

Update Manager 4.1 and its subsequent update releases are the latest editions of the product to support digitization and the rehabilitation of patches for Windows and Linux guest operating systems and the applications that run within a virtual machine.

    Regarding

.. and you must use a third-party product such as WSUS...

WSUS is actually no a third-party tool. It is the tool of official update from Microsoft.
