  I use 7 Captivate.  I created a 'Learnername' user variable and added to the text entry area. However, the display name does not appear on the text of the legend. For example. Rebecca Donaldson has been added in the input box of text on the next page only Rebecca Dona' came.    I tried to increase the size of the text caption, rename the variable and redo everything, but nothing seemed to work.    Anyone know what could be the problem and how to fix it?   Insert the vsriable into the legend using the NVI icon the
  tab proprties. You can specify the number of characters to display.

  I have stumbled on this nasty problem yesterday and am looking for help (please).

  I used the scan engine and User Variables to send filtered data modules FPGA C Series in the OTR.

  When the fixed Point of Variables data user was read in the OTR, it was transformed using the primitive Double-precision Float.

  The result has been that positive were out correct but negative numbers has become corrupt.

   

  Other tests revealed the following:

   

  • This has occurred on the target of the RT, the target PC worked (tested and converted User Variables were published network)
  • This was produced for the User Variables (app 3 FXP representations and that have touched all of them) as a data source
  • If the data source has been a constant FXP then conversion to a DBL worked properly on the target of RT
  • If the data source has been probed or FXP control output, then the data is displayed correctly, it's the conversion only after the DBL occurred by corruption
  • Access to Variables such as a DBL using the shared Variable API via reading do not corrupt Variable data for the network publishes user read RT target Variables
  • Access to Variables such as FXP then convert to DBL using the API Variable shared via scanned reading corrupt the data read from the target RT
  • This was also the case for the simple primitive Float precision

• CP7 - decimal points Show 4 (or more) for the user Variable?

  Is there a way to show the decimal points 4 or more for user variables?

  For some reason, I'm only show two decimal places for user variables in Captivate 7.

  I have a user that Hyperion will not work, it hangs for a very long time.
  
  I think it is because they have accessed a form with user variables that will back an excessive amount of data.
  
  They are not sure what form it finally reached, so I cannot hardcode the values to reduce the data so that they can change their user variables.
  
  Is there anyway to clear variables user as an administrator?
  
  Or is there any other difficulty that users know of who can help me around this?
  
  
  I deleted temporary files of IE in the past, but this does not help in this case.

  If you want to update all records, then it should be hsp_user_variable_value table

  You could just dump all the users in the table for example variables

  remove from hsp_user_variable_value
  When user_id = (select object_id from hsp_object where object_name = 'enterusername')

  Please note that I've not tested this and it is not supported, it would probably require a restart of the web application planning because the table can be cached in memory.

• Do not advance after incorrect answer quiz (quiz uses the user variables to show the wrong answers)

  Long time lurker, first time poster. I hope someone can help me.

  After watching this excellent video about adobe captivate blog "so what were the right answers in any case" I created a quiz with user variables and conditional early action. It displays a red x next to each question answered correctly at the end of the quiz.

  • I created the variable user for each question to a value of 0. On an incorrect answer, the variable would be set to 1.
  • At the end of the quiz is a blade that question and shows a red cross next to each question with a variable set to 1. uses conditional action that is triggered 'upon entry.

  It works, but my problem is when I saw the quiz (in the browser or SWF), on an incorrect answer, the legend of the failure appears but does not really advance the question when I click anywhere or press o. It works well on the correct answers.

  Can I sovle this by adding a next button, but I'd like to understand what I'm doing wrong.

  • Using captivate 6.0.1.240 (copy in box)

  I tested this workflow on 6.1.319 and it works fine. If a little guess in the wild... No 6.0.1.240 around at the moment. Seems strange, because a simple action like your Assign action should normally release the read head. But of course, it's a question slide and they do not always behave as expected. Could you try to replace the action of the beneficiary by a standard tip with 2 statements, like this action:

  • Assign the var_question_1 with 1
  • Continue

  And please, let me know if it works? This could be a difference between the two versions, but not sure at all.

• Variables FM renamed and duplicated after save in XML format

  Hello again,

  I am also a problem where formal economy docs as XML results in the duplication of work and renaming of variables.  For example, in a given document, I have the name of the web service inserted as variable 4 times throughout the piece. Once I recorded in XML format, the variable is renamed fmvar1, fmvar2, fmvar3 and fmvar4.  Then, when I open the doc once again, instead of having 1 variable in 4 places, I now have 4 variables on 4 sites.

  

  Is that what I should wait, because there is no way to tell the XML doc (or FM transmit this information) it's the same variable, used in 4 places?

  You don't mention the name of your variable to FrameMaker. I suspect that it contains a space or other special character that is not allowed in an XML name.

  FrameMaker writes XML variables as entity references General. If a variable name is a valid from MXL, default name, it uses the name of the variable in the name of the entity. Several references to such an entity can occur. If not, he names the variable fmvar # where # is an integer. In this case, you are right that it generates a different entity for each occurrence of the variable. I also find this proliferation of general entities to be a bug.

  You can change the default behavior with a rule of read/write in the form:

  "twowords" entity is variable fm "two words";

  In your case, so you have at least 3 choices:

  1) live with multiple entities

  (2) rename the variable to something that can be used as a name of entity

  (3) add a rule r/w for each variable in any document that causes this problem

• Space character according to some user variables in the process of disappearance

  I just started using FrameMaker 10 (Version: 10.0.1.408) for updating a set of structured documents that were originally created using FM 7.2. These documents contain a large number of user variables.  However, in FM 10 sometimes if there is a space character following the variable it is removed when you save a reopen the file. If a non-breaking space is there but it isn't always a suitable solution.

  All variables were created without any character formats and containing only plain text.

  Is this a known problem or am I missing something very obvious?

  I created a 'pass' certificate that only those who are successful will see. (FYI... Allowing for the learner to print their certificate in the landscape of the Cap 4 is another challenge, not covered on this thread, but if someone has the free answer, please let me know).

  I wish that the learner to see on the slide of test results is their outcome variable name user at the start of the project. EG.g < Noel > Bravo, you have succeeded, where < Christmas > is the user variable.

  I see that you can "change" the messages of success/failure via the control box on the screen of test results... but how do I insert the user variable, so the message says something like... Bravo < Noel >, you spent...

  Published articles on advanced actions, using variables. A few months I am blogging about Captivate (for the most part about 5, but some comments apply to the 4 as well). Here is the link to my blog:

  I recommend you start with the two reviews/articles on the variables.

  I know you dislike the CP5 and are still working with CP4. The user in CP4 for advanced actions interface is somewhat awkward (one of the reasons why I really appreciate more CP5). But in your case, it should work. Will try to explain the steps (if I could just insert a CP - SWF here, sigh!):

  1. Make sure you have the text entry box to request the name and associate it with a user variable p.e. v_Name
  2. Create the collar and the failure of the text in the slide in score captions; You can insert the username, by inserting the v_Name as explained by the other user. don't forget to put in invisible by using the properties. To better explain, I tagged FailText and PassText legends
  3. Create an advanced action (see screenshot):
     1. Project, Actions, tab advanced; Actions Create a new action; the label of the action, e.g. TestScore
     2. Double-click Add statement, you will see a red "declaration", open the drop-down list by using the SPACEBAR
     3. Choose Condition, pane will fill with a whole bunch of lines which are the structure of a conditionial statement
     4. Click on the first red 'Select a variable' and use the space bar to open the drop-down list
     5. Scroll down to cpQuizInfoPointsScored and select
     6. Open the drop-down list "is equal to" using the SPACEBAR (may be it opens automatically) and choose ' greater than or equal to ".
     7. Open the drop-down list for the third (able to open automatically too) and choose 'value', you'll be able to type in the required minimum score (I put in '12') - your report is created
     8. on the third line, under Begin, select and open the drop-down list with the space bar, select action Standard, then choose show, in the object list, you choose PassText
     9. similar workflow after otherwise, Begin, but now show FailText
     10. You don't have to bother on the statements to add superfluous, they will not disrupt your script
  4. Go to the slide of Score, open its properties and change the action on enter to "Action run advanced ', choose the action you just created TestScore
  5. Try previewing

  Try it, Christmas, simple tip action can really extend the possibilities of Captivate - but are much easier to CP5, don't shoot me please!

  "Great sites" with additional technologies can easily intercept incoming requests to a certain page, with all sorts of additional information in the URL (from the related announcement, like this: http://typekit.com/fonts?locale=nl-NL&ref=globalnav&promoid=KRUVR ) and whisk a popup, refer to a different page or activate another script or process of deciding what must happen. But Muse creates a 'static' website with the URL of the page simple, without special scripts or ruffles or processes to decode an additional URL to a query.

  Creating a page of special destination somewhere elsewhere in the Web site to refer to, may be the simplest solution.

• Edit user variable for everyone, old and new

  This might be a repetitive question, but I couldn't find the right solution to my problem.

  What I need is to change the value of the variable TEMP and TMP to a specific location for the incoming and existing domain users.

  From now if I change this value it will only reflect on a specific user and not for users, especially for an incoming user. It will be always default % USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp.

  Hi all

  I use 6 Captivate on a Windows machine and tries to create a scneario where the user try to break the code on a safe. I have an image of a standard numeric keypad 0-9 and an additional 'enter/submit' button and have click boxes assigned to each digit.

  What I want to do is allow users to have unlimited attempts to break the 4-digit code and open the safe but I only want them to discover if they are successful or not when they hit the Enter - key, but I hit a brick wall when creating actions in order to identify the correct numbers is entered in the correct order.

  As an alternative to this method, is there a way to capture the choice the user four-digit in a variable and then test if the variable resultuing score is correct?

  Which makes sense for what I want to achieve?

  Of course, this can be done by JS, but it is also possible with advanced/shared actions. Since you're the COP6, joint actions are excluded. Here are some old articles that explain the use cases similar to what you want:
