Using Time Machine with connection once a week

I would like to connect an external drive once a week, have Time Machine make an incremental backup and store the drive off-site. Would this work?

This will work... assuming that you perform a full backup of the Mac on the first pass, but you must be prepared for backups take significantly longer than normal because Time Machine will have to catch up on the value of one week of changes to your Mac whenever it backs up "gradually."

I'm using Time Machine (1 TB), works very well, but because full starting to delete previous backups. Can I add another (LaCie 1 TB) HARD disk for backups? If so, how to proceed. Thank you!

You can add another drive to accept backups Time Machine... assuming it is correctly formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled), but things are not exactly "continue."

You have not indicated if you intend to add the player to the USB port on the Time Capsule, or connect directly to your computer using USB or FireWire connections. Or the other method works, with the option to connect directly to the computer being the faster connection.

Once the disc is added, you would go in Time Machine preferences (click the "clock" at the top of the screen on your Mac) to add the disk for Time Machine backups and delete the old Time Capsule disk, since backups will go is no longer this destination.

Since you have a new drive, Time Machine will do a new full backup of your Mac and then go forward with incremental backups.

  • Should I buy a Base Station for my Apple products to use Time Machine?

Should I buy a Base Station for my Apple products? I have a Netgear CG3000D-RG gateway and also use Windows with this modem/router. I'm not able to backup using time machine and bought an external hard drive PassPort but I find it pretty annoying having to plug it in to my MBP whenever I want to do a backup. I would like to use the most convenient airport on my MBP feature, however, it seems pointless unless I have connected to my Netgear router/Modem base station. If I have to buy a base station to make the backup of my MBP easier? I also use 6s and iPad Air iPhone. I would be able to save these features too? Thank you!

    1. you must either have a Time Capsule or connect the drive to your computer when you perform a backup.

    2. Time Machine isn't back from iOS devices directly; they should be stored on a computer and the computer saved Time machine.

  • Why did all of my files migrate to my new iMac using Time Machine?

I recently bought a new iMac and used Time Machine to transfer my data from my Macbook.  Why not a not transfer files of Pages, Numbers and Keynote?  Why all three have a? on the dock?

Files transferred without doubt, but the Dock shortcuts are not connected to them.

Try to remove these shortcuts from the Dock and replace them with news from your Applications folder.

  • How to back up to external hard drive using time machine

I just bought a new drive external toshiba with 500 GB of memory. When I tried to back up my computer last night through a time machine, I thought that it worked, but when I woke up this morning, time machine told me that my oldest and the most recent backup is none which means that it does not cross. I tried again this morning but after hitting "back up now" time machine prepares the backup, and then start it, giving me a ridiculously ETA such a 15 hours, then never completely complete the back which is really confusing so I do not know what to do.

Did you partition and format your new drive before using it? What version of Mac OS X? • Restore the data in the external drive using Time Machine

    Hi y ' All!

I store my photos in my external hard drive because there is not enough space in memory is internal. This is actually my second drive external hard than my first (Adata HE720) is not the beginning of last year. Unfortunately, my WD Elements has stopped working and I can't restore data using Time Machine, as the drive is not found in Time Machine under devices, and I'm sure that I restored my photo library and many other files from my old external drive using Time Machine.

Can someone tell me how to recover my old files? I have many other important data here including my photos and I don't want to lose them. I'm fairly positive that Time Machine allows me to get the data as is the point of it.

    Thank you in advance!

P.S. If you guys have any recommendation on a reliable external drive, please do tell me!

Hey guys, I found the problem.

It turns out that I'm never giving time Machine to deselect my external drive to backup; Therefore, there is absolutely no copy done during execution Time machine. I really don't understand why Apple made this the default behavior, but it is what it is.

So, people, don't forget to go to Time Machine preferences and make sure that you remove the external hard drive that you want to backup under options. Once you do, you can enter the time Machine and your drive will appear under devices.

    See you soon.

  • Is it possible to use Time Machine to return to a VM work?

We use VMware Fusion 2.0 with Windows XP Home Edition, SP 3 on a 20 "iMac with 3 GB of RAM with OS X 10.5.6. We are finally all the bugs out and things have been smooth. On Monday, we went and used a Windows program. While in the program a message here (as he does every day) an update to MacFee. I to do its thing. At the end he said that he needed to restart for the changes to take effect. I told him to call back me later because we were in the middle of something. When I logged on VM, I thought that the next time I started Windows it would apply regardless of the changes she had made.

Last night I went to Fusion/Windows and every few seconds I now get an error message saying macafee does not work properly. I tried to remove it so I can reinstall, but even in the Add/Remove Programs tool, I get an error message. In addition, when I click on any of the Windows programs that I use (the only reason why I have a virtual machine at all is to use Quicken and trademark), there is a quick flash across the screen and then it goes back to the hills of Office Windows. So, basically, nothing works in Windows now.

What ask is, can I use Time Machine to go back to the last backup of the virtual machine and restore it? Will be that screws things worse or that would work to correct the situation? It seems reasonable to leave Windows without rebooting to allow McAfee to apply his stuff would be completely hose VM?

    Thanks for your suggestions!

I made a few changes to a virtual machine configuration that basically he has stopped working (the operating system not the virtual machine itself). I used time machine to restore a virtual machine and it worked.

Have not had a prob since.

  • Using Time Machine to back up the .lrcat

I have watched and read several tutorials on how to backup the catalog and none of them address the possibility or the option to backup using Time Machine.  Am I missing something here?  If I hung on my TM system, wouldn't I automatically have a backup of the .lrcat file?  I appreciate assistance as I am a newbie of LR.

It is best to avoid allowing Time Machine backup you Lightroom 1 or 2 catalogs when the application runs. Thus, placing Lightroom 1 or 2 in the list of Time Machine is recommended. Lightroom beta 3 and most likely the final version are automatically placed in the list of Time Machine when they run, but deleted when closed. This ensures that Time Machine does not interfere with the Lightroom Catalog when it is open, but it saves when it is closed.

  • Impossible to use Time Machine on Airport Extreme

Back in June, I brought a laptop HD work to save the laptop. It's something I have done 3 times a year, in addition to using Time Machine on my 1 TB Airport Extreme. Well, when I did that, I went from 'H Time Capsule' to 'Brian's Portable HD. Everything saved. No problem. It seemed.

Unfortunately, I can no longer use Time Machine on the 1 TB drive. Every time as I try, I get "password to the server": Time Capsule". And the password I try does not work. Arrrggh.

Is it possible to find the password lost at an Airport Extreme?

Can or, if it's a no-go, I reset everything on it and start over?

    Thank you.

    Brian

It would really help if you could provide the version of the operating system that you use on your laptop.

The reason is that if you can access the AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility, you can retrieve the "lost password" for the album Time Capsule, which could be the password wireless, could be the base station password, or it might be the disk password... it depends of how you implement the AirPort Extreme.
