Vcenter move to another host

Hello

looking for a counsellor on move my vm to host 5.1 vcenter to a new host 5.5.

do I have to turn off all the prior vm or do I have to do a migration of the vcenter?

Thank you

an other options use vmware converter and do a v2v for vm on vsphere 5.1 in the old storage to vsphere 5.5 in the new storage.

Shutdown vc on vsphere 5.1 and power on vc on vsphere 5.5.

  • VCenter move to another area

We use our vCenter to set permissions for our vm´s.

Permissions are granted to our users to Active Directory.

Now, we have installed a new domain and move the new domain, so we vCenter man grant persissions to the users from the new domain.

So my question is: How can I move vCenter 4.1 from domain A to domain B?

Remove the server from the domain Windows has and join it to the domain B. fact

What could cause trouble is if you use domain accounts to start the vCenter services or if they are used for DB Login etc.

In order to check that before you move to the new domain and change to local if necessary accounts.

  • Emc LUNs move to another host esxi

We have an ESXi server connected to an emc clariion cx3 - 10 c (iscsi, 1 logical unit number). We will fully ESX and this server needs to be rebuilt to that. I have built a new server esxi and want to keep the virtual machine residing on the lun. Is there a way to communicate the number of logical unit on the new server esxi? I see an option migrate in Navisphere, don't know what it does. I am a rookie!

You should be able to present the existing LUN as your return VMFS datastore to the new ESXi host by adding the new host of the storage group on the CLARiiON. Then the new server will see the VMFS datastore and as long as (Vswitches) network settings are the same on the new host of ESXi, you can migrate virtual machines to the new host and then dismantle the old host.

  • How to migrate from vCenter as virtual machine to another host without vMotion running

We organize ESX 3.5 hosts. I've already updated our vCenter VM to 4.0U1. We have not the vMotion Installer yet (but are licensed for her). What is the appropriate way for migrating the vCenter VM to another host without vMotion, so I can upgrade the host the vCenter VM is running on? I have examined all the documents and messages, I could find, but don't have not seen this addressed.

You must turn off the virtual machine.

Copy the files (if are not on a shared data store).

Save the vmx file in the new ESX (with browser data store).

    Turn on the virtual machine.

  • How to move a virtual machine to another host ESXi running when HA vCenter is not operational... !

    Hey

We have a few guests of ESXi running the 5.0.0 original version and some running the latest 5.1 U1 or whatever and the last vCenter to do this too.

the vCenter server is one of the hosts running 5.0.0 and these do not allow HA either active correctly. The problem is a known bug, and you switch to maintenance mode and do funky stuff on the cli to make it work. However, I just want to spend all my virtual machines off the old 5.0.0. hosts and on the new, as the 'old' will be dismantled. I can do all virtual machines by just when close them down and moving off, but I won't be able to do this in with the vm off vCenter vCenter!

can I turn off, connect directly to the ESXi host, remove it its inventory (this option exists even on the ESXi host live?) and save it to the new 5.1.0 host U1 and fire?

vCenter complain or fail when she returns to the top?

they share all the same warehouses of data, so I need to move the backend.

    thoughts?

    Thank you

    Roger

HA and vMotion (i.e. live migration) are two different things and are independent of each other, so if vMotion is configured correctly, you should be able to migrate the virtual machines (including the vCenter Server VM) to another host.

  • Best method to move vCenter VM to another ESX host?

Update Manager has refused to allow us to stage an update for our ESX host our vCenter VM running on. So we have to move the other host our vCenter ESX just update this ESX host. But as we use vSphere Standard that does not come with vMotion and storage vMotion, we must stop vCenter and make a manual transfer.

Did you guys a better method to do that in order to copy files from local storage ESX VM vCenter to the PC running the VI Client on and then copy the file vCenter VM from the PC to the local storage of the other local ESX storage? Because we do not have a usable for the moment SAN storage.

BTW, we tried Storage vMotion with the year evaluation license last to move vCenter and it failed.

We use mainly use the converter for the conversion or 'movement' of VMs from one region to the other because it is a GUI based process.  We have quite a few movements/conversions per week, so we have standardized on the converter.  If we have problems with converter (several failures, etc.) we will perform a dorsal scp of the actual VM files.  I agree that this method is faster, but in our case, we did not want to open the console for jobs like that, it seemed a more dangerous process from the console (deleting files etc...).  We used the converter to convert physical movement to virtual, virtual virtual clone, convert virtual from one version to another (workstation to esx for example).  I also like that the sysprep process can be automated in the process, but also some virtual machine configurations.  If we say PCS had a virtual machine to another location and we created a clone in the new location, we would have to scp, starting the virtual machine and then treat the sysprep (Windows) and rename, configuring ip etc...

  • moving my SQL Server to another host (with vcenter database)

    Hi all

I am in progress to improve my environment at ESX4.0. Now I have to move my only SQL server VM to the new host, who is already on ESX4.0 level. My only SQL server hosts the vCenter as database. I don't have a vMotion.

To move my SQL vm, I need to turn it off and then migrate my ESX 4.0 host. The problem: when the SQL Server is disabled, I lose connectivity to the vCenter server and therefore cannot migrate the virtual computer to another host.

Is there a way to fix this, or is my only option to move the virtual machine in question off vCenter SQL database?

The physical files of the VM for SQL server on an iSCSI box and will not change the location of the data store.

    Thank you

    Edy

Open the browser of data store, right-click right the VM's vmx file and choose "add to the inventory.

  • How can I move an ESXi host to another?

    Hello

I have 2 ESXi hosts running on similar hardware. SSH is enabled on both hosts. I need to move all the VMs from one host to another. What will be the most effective way to do it?

Most average effecitive: buy vSphere Essentials, configure vCenter, connect the two hosts, virtual machines turn off, do a right click and "migrate." 1 k$ for 3 hosts and vCenter.

Less effective, but cheaper way: turn off virtual machines, copy VMs to an another ESXi, search for all data, made store .vmx files right-click and "add to the inventory.

  • Move one virtual Center Server to another host

I currently have a small standalone ESX server running some virtual machines in a remote office. It is connected to its own Virtual Center Server. This virtual Center Server has apparently been abandoned and is no longer in service. I wanted to add the stand-alone host on our server main virtual Center, but did not know if something had to be done before hand (move files lciensing, etc.) to simply add the host directly in the datacenter through VIC.

    Thank you

If you have available licenses in your current environment, you can simply add the host to the.  When attempting to add a host, you will receive a message saying: it is run by another instance of vCenter you want to add it, just say Yes.

If you get to the other instance of vCenter to disconnect the host, then your VM can drop.

But if you have your main site to the remote connectivity, you should have problems addding it if licenses are available.

How your SEO does not work if you move your Web site to another host?

    Hi Michael

Move single accommodation, should not influence seo. Change the site host requires a change in the location of the file, so no impact. However, I found a video that will understand this

Let me know if you have any question.

  • Cannot move the virtual machine to another host

Here's the situation... I am running 3 ESX 4.0 host in a cluster and I upgrade the memory on these hosts.  I put one day and now I want to use vmotion to move a virtual machine to host more memory, so I can then turn off host 2 to add more memory.

When I try to migrate the computer to another virtual host he said "the virtual machine must be powered down for that purpose."

I did it before with success when I first created this group with the HA and DRS settings are enabled.

Now, I can't do this and I don't know what setting or what changed to cause it to not allow me to manually migrate a virtual computer on one host to another.

If I wanted to put an ESX host in "Maintenance Mode" thinking that it will automatically move all VM for 2 other hosts in the cluster is not it either... I get a message saying that ' a host into maintenance mode does not any virtual machine functions... blah... blah... and continues to complete the entry into maintenance mode, all virtual machines must be closed or moved to another host. "  Manual intervention may be required.

Again, I think that if a host is down these VMs would be move... that of the whole point of a cluster but doesn't seem to put in maintenance mode to allow them to go unless I turn off the virtual machine

    Any ideas?

Go is one of the requirements of vMotion. The message after you had corrected the condition, I'm sure would be erased after awhile.

  • How one move the templates of virtual machine from one host to another host in the cluster even

    Hello

Can you get it someone please let me know how to move the templates of virtual machine from one host to another host in the cluster even?

    Thank you

    James

    Welcome to the forums!

Convert it to a virtual machine (right click on guest and choose the appropriateoption), move it through the migration feature (right-click Guest, and then choose "Migrate") and convert into a model (right click on guest again and choose to convert to a template).

  • Migration to another host fails

    Hello community,

I wrote a shutdown script, enable hotplug memory and cpu, migrate to another host and start the virtual machine after all done tasks.

I use the following command to migrate the virtual machine to another host:

    Get-VM-name $strNewVMName | Move-VM-Destination esxhost1

This command starts the task to migrate the engine shut down vm to esxhost2 to esxhost1

Once the task is completed, the script starts the virtual machine with the command: Get-VM-name $strNewVMName | Start-VM

    But here's my problem:

I see in the recent tasks that the VM becomes unsubscribe from the 'new' esxhost1 and resave to esxhost1. The virtual machine starts now on the esxhost1

It works fine when I migrates the engine shut down vm manually via vCenter but not with my script

Does anyone have an idea to solve my problem?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas

It is certainly very strange, I went through your steps manually and came to power on a virtual machine on the new host without problem. You have the installer of DRS? or who sits on the local storage of this host?

  • VMotion - VM from one host to another host

I have a lab setup as I am new to VMware and try to move a virtual machine powered from one host to another host and errors. I have attached an image of the error. (vmotionError2.png)

They way I run is as follows:

System machine built running ESXi 4.1.0 260247

    Host 1

On this, I have two ESXi 4.1.0 race 260247 VM and Vcenter Server and three other VM

Welcome 2 (different material of co-location)

    On this I have ESXi 4.1.0 260247

    Home 3

It is the first virtual ESXi 4.1 on the host one called ESXi41-1 that has a motor on the virtual from Windows XP Pro machine.

    Home 4

It's the second virtual ESXi4.1 on the host one called ESXi41-2, which is where I'm vmotion Windows XP Pro VM at.

The network cards are on 1000 full duplex.

Any suggestion or help would be great. That's what I'm working with and try to get good at my VCP exam.

    Thanks again

All the best, with which you could play with DRS, HA, FT and more =)

  • VCenter as VM change host.

How can I migrate virtual center from one host to another? VCenter is a virtual machine.

My license doesn't include VMotion, but if I can migrate with VMotion?

    Thank you too much.

    Hello

If you have the license, then Yes: a vCenter VM can move from one host to another.

If you don't have the license, you must:

-Note the host of your virtual machine is on

    -close

-connect with the VI client to its host

    -Unregister the virtual machine

-connect with the VI client to the new host

    -Registry of the virtual machine

    -Start

    It may be useful
