VCommander is really a replacement for vCloud Director?

Hello

someone said that vMware has bought Embotics vCommander and is to promote the planning is as a replacement for vCloud Director.

If in the future, there will be no vCloud Director, only vCommander as vCloud 5.5 is the latest version of vCloud Director.

Can someone shadow light on it if it's true or just a rumor?

Thank you in anticipation

Ashish

vCloud Director goes because there are many common features between vCD and vCAC. And the positioning of these two manufacturers are becoming increasingly difficult. I think that's the only reason why they plan to stop it. And it will always be available to service providers. Not be included in vCloud Suite.

I don't think that VMware will purchase another product like vCommander and enter in more complex questions of positioning.

  • Management Pack for vCloud Director (vROps) connection problem / authentication adapter?

    Hello

I'm trying to configure the Management Pack for vCloud Director (Cloud Management Marketplace |) Solution Exchange) and I seem to be having trouble with the simplest thing. I have the Solution installed and configured for most, but for some reason usually reach out and join the vCD server, or have a kind of authentication problems. When I test the map with appropriate powers (local and LDAP in vCD), I get the error:

  • The transfer server storage shared for vcloud Director cells

    Hello

I'm building a cluster of vCloud Director (3 guests) in our environment, but I was wondering about transfer server shared storage that is required for downloads and uploads the data among all cells, here is that excerpts from the Director Cloud installation guide for the same

    ==============================================================================================================

To provide temporary storage for uploads and downloads, shared storage must be accessible to all hosts in a cluster of clouds Director. The amount of storage to transfer server must have permissions writable by root. Each host must ride this storage $VCLOUD_HOME

/ Data/Transfer (in general transfer/opt/vmware/cloud-director/data/transfer). Uploads and downloads are the storage for a short time (a few hours a day), but because the transferred images can be large, allocate at least several hundred gigabytes at this volume.

    =============================================================================================================

I have some questions related to this,

    1. can I use storage iSCSI for this "shared forwarding server storage" or only a NFS storage will do.

2 storage is recommended according to the prospective of VMware.

    3. If anyone has references to the configuration for this storage documentation, please let me know.

    Thank you

    Keryan

It is not explicitly stated above all because there are several options and alternatives.

NFS is by far the easiest and also the easiest to wear but CIFS, for example, would work.  Like any other technique of file-sharing system that makes the blob of data readable and accessible in writing of all cells at the same time.

iSCSI is not enough to really say yes or no to the subject.  If you have a shared several cells and do iscsi lun on it ext3 file system, then the cells will tear system metadata of file into pieces in a relatively short deadline, because ext3fs is not designed to be multi-homed.

This isn't a limitation of iSCSI, or a lun SAN, or tours with virtual machines to share the same file several VMS vmdk, is put on top of this file system.

  • MCAK for vCloud Director 5.1

    Hello

We use the most recent MultiCloud since vCloud Director but now look at upgrading to vCenter vCloud Director 5.1.

I had seen a mention of help soon with version 5.1 of vCD, but did not see if it is available, or in what version it will be.

Would you be able to give an indication of support for this version, please?

    Kind regards

    Paul

You should have no problem with the latest version of MCAK vCloud Director 5.1. All the features of the IAC has been verified. What is not yet supported is 5.1 VCD API, so you would not be able to take advantage of the new features of the product/API with the adapter IN VCD (although you can always write your own custom using HTTP requests process to call the new REST API directly).

  • Is a prelude really a replacement for OnLocation?

    Hello

I've read up, and it seems that adobe means prelude replace OnLocation. This seems strange to me. I use OnLocation to create lists of plans during the pre production, then video assist and monitor audio on the plateau (avoiding the need to ingest later and, more importantly for me, without the need for any kind of drive other than the drive from my computer or SD cards). Prelude does neither of these things? I have not seen this feature.

In fact the prelude begins exactly after OnLocation does it's thing. Or rather, OnLocation bypasses the need for the prelude in many cases, but not the reverse. I hope that I have not found these features on Prelude yet. (I played with him for a short period of time really). The game features are at least?

Prelude is not a substitute for and does not have the same set of features which had OnLocation.  You can file feature requests for the things you want to see as a prelude to the http://www.adobe.com/go/wish

You can enable comments for Oracle Linux customization which means that it is supported. I remember non-incassable test Oracle Linux 5 and it worked fine.

  • vCloud Director or vRealize Automation?

    Hello

I was hoping I could get some advice regarding the choice between vCloud Director and vRealize Automation. We have set up a test environment for vCloud Director however read some articles, it seems that it is a product that reaches the end of life for businesses, but not for service providers.

So my question is a service provider should us be implementation vCloud Director or vRealize Automation? We do not want to be in a position to migrate off vCloud in a year.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Chris

I can't make any kind of recommendation between the two, because I don't know what you want to do with the products.

Addressing the availability of the product and the support of it:

vCloud Director just won't be available to independently purchase and withdrew the license of the Suite from 6.x.  You must purchase the license 5.x to get it (assuming that it is available)... This aspect, if not suite your needs right now until mid-2017 (when vCloud will end support for users of the company).  From 2017, you have to make a decision as to what will replace vCloud or continue to use vCloud Director, even if we will not offer support for it.

VRealize Automation will meet your needs?  I do not know without knowing your use case and requirements... that is for discussion of a VMware sales representative.

Apart from all this: VSPP is the VMware service provider program.  A version of vCloud Director will exist for them, but it is precisely for them (members of the VSPP program).  Unless you work for a member of the VSPP program, the statements above concerning vCloud Director are what you think.

If you are Member VSPP, vCloud Director for the providers of services (5.6.x) is available as the direct vcloud Director 5.5.x successor.  Then by all means we will continue to support these versions, and it can be used to manage resources like a Cloud provider.

I had a number of people say they are service providers, which is very beautiful.  Be a VSPP means being in a specific program of VMware, which gives access to certain things (which AFAIK is vCloud for Service providers).

I'm not trying to be harsh or terse here, but I want to just make sure we do differentiation key on what is available to whom and how.

  • vCloud Director 5.5 device - limits

    Hi all

Is there any vmware document that specifies the boundaries of the vCloud Director 5.5 device? I know it is trial / PoC and should not be used in a Production Env, but I am interested in a CEP more complex and has been reading here: the vCloud Director unit. VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs limitations:

Now the vCloud Director device it has some limitations.  As it is only intended for vCloud Director assessments, the scale of the deployment is limited to:

    • A cell of vCloud Director
    • Two vCenter servers
    • 10 VDC organization
    • 100 virtual machines
    • Up to 11 GB of information stored in the database shipped

Being a former link, I'm sure that is more up-to-date and these limitations have increased, but would like to find something about it.

I know it supports CentOS, but unfortunately in this PoC I do not have a Windows Server (will also use the vCenter device) and any database.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

We produce is no longer the device.  One of the limitations would be so you don't have updates for it.  The limits are generally the same as what you posted.

CentOS support any really, since the device is produced as a black box.  SuSE or CentOS according to what version it is.  The embedded DB have size limits.

If you do a CEP more complex, I suggest to use the BIN on CentOS Installer and have at least 2 vCloud Director of cells in a load balanced configuration.  Several cells is something you just can't do with the device.

  • vCloud Director 5.1 install OS Question

Can I use CentOS instead of Red Hat as the operating system for vCloud Director install?  If yes what the game (if any) would be if I needed VMware support (they even would support me)?

    Thank you for your time.

    Sean

There is nothing prevents you to install it on CentOS.  During the installation you will be told that you are using an unsupported operating system.

All the problems that would arise from the use of CentOS instead of RHEL is not support.  We must do better to ensure that it is not a question of use/code, as well a reasonable given the suspicion that the OS is really at fault.

Strictly speaking, being an employee of VMware, I can't close my eyes go against the recommendations of the platform supported.

However, in more recent versions, I have not personally seen problems directly related to the operating system.  vCloud is a java-based application and is associated with a specific version of Java that is provided by the installer.  If we use even the system version of Java to create the gap.

too long, didn't read = you can, but shouldn't.

  • vCloud Director 5.6

    Hello

There is a new plug-in for vCloud Director 5.6?

    Thank you

    Hello

There is no specific vCloud Director Plugin for 5.6 available yet, but the existing plugin 'should' work with 5.6 so the API is backwards compatible.

Of course, you can't use it to automate the new vCD 5.6 feature.

If something does not go as planned, I recommend opening a SR with VMware Support.

    See you soon,.

  • vCloud Director 5.1 with vco 5.5 plugin configuration

I installed the plugin for vCloud director 5.1 in vCenter Orchestrator 5.5, the plug-in installed very well with the certificate that I imported from the url. However, configure the plug-in is another story, when I go to set up the plug-in of the customer or in the page web configuration, I get "failed to connect with the user name. My authorization of vco is configured with LDAP, so is my vCloud Director. In the client workflow 'Add link' vco for vCloud director, my selections are the url to vCloud, port 443, active, max 600 connections, the connection times out 20000 ms, session mode by user, the use and organization system SAML authentication Session. I followed the instructions of the Plugin VMware vCenter Orchestrator Documentation Centre . I tried to configure the plug-in as a shared user and I get the same error. I tried to configure the plugin in the web configuration page and it excludes the host that is the url to vCloud, but I do not see an inventory after that restart services vco and vco customer return logging. My vCloud infrastructure is set up with 2 cells and her sitting behind a vShield load balancing.  If I try to configure the plugin to go directly to one of my cells the workflow times out. I have a request of service opened with vmware, but I hope someone else has experienced this problem or might have a few suggestions that will point me in the right direction.

    Thank you

    J

Changing the IP of my vco did the trick. When I set up the server of vco, I put it on the same subnet as my vcd cells. While my load balancer was on a separate subnet. Assigning the vco server an ip address on a different subnet allowed transmitted traffic of the vco through the load balancer, solve my problem of time-out.

  • Will vcloud Director 5.5 compatible with vsphere 5.1U1?

    Hey,.

We vSphere 5.1U1 running in production and we look at vCloud Director 5.5 for the deployment. But VMware does not have a virtual Director 5.1 appliance and we do not want to buy a server, Redhat enterprise server (we could upgrade vSphere 5.1u1 soon, but due the Veem, we cannot now). Since VMware provides the virtual appliance for vCloud Director 5.5, so I got this question that I can't answer in VMware documents:

Will vCloud Director 5.5 compatible with vSphere 5.1U1?

    Thank you

    / S

Yes vCloud Director 5.5 is compatible with vSphere 5.1U1.

  • Unable to see models with vCloud Director

    Hi all

I use vCloud Director 1.5. and have created a few models in the vSphere. However when I try to import models of vSphere to vCloud, I am unable to view the created models. Please tell us what I could hurt.

In addition, someone has user FAQ for vCloud director, if so, please let us know.

Convert virtual computer models, then you should be able to view them to VCD using the vSphere import option.
