  • Please help - my version of VMware fusion is to old to be upgraded. If I buy the new version can I transfer my existing set up?

So I installed my Mac at El Captian & annoyingly my version of VMware fusion (5.0.3) is no longer supported and will not open.

Even more annoyingly VMware fusion offer upgrades to the new version for those who use the version 6 or later.

Would like if someone could let me know. I am self employed & I've got software out there that are vital for work :/

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware communities forum.

There is no problem with the Fusion 8 recognizing of your virtual machines to Fusion 5 (or more), it will go just pick up where you left off.

There are a few borderline cases, as it officially you should have your virtual machines closed and not suspended and preferably without clichés before upgrading to a newer version of the merger. However, in practice I saw real topics with that either.

Note that it is recommended to backup your virtual machines before going any further. Do this by copying them to an external drive (not dependent on time machine for backups of virtual machines) and then disconnect the drive.

You can start using on Fusion 8 for 30 days trial period, simply download it from here:

Try VMware Fusion or Fusion Pro. Run Windows on a Mac without rebooting.

Once it works as you want, simply assign the license to the merger to change it in the full licensed version.

    Hope this helps,

  • How can I get the version of VMware to virtual machines with powercli officer?

How can I get the version of VMware View Agent running on a virtual machine with powercli or view Powercli?

As much as I know there is no cmdlet PowerCLI for this, but you can use the Invoke-VMScript cmdlet and interrogate the Win32_Product class.

By running the following. You can add a Where clause to return only the Agent of the view

    Get-WmiObject-class Win32_Product | Select the name, Version

  • What version of VMware View is compatible with vSphere 5.1?

    Greetings,

I checked the compatibility tables and I watched that indicated that no version of VMware View was compatible with vSphere 5.1.

    Tom

You will have to wait until VMware releases a hotfix or an update that is compatible with vSphere 5.1. Usually short gap between the release of vSphere and a compatible version of the view.

  • How to see the latest version of Vmware Tools in CentOS guestOS?

After the installation of the new v5.0.0. VmWare Player on Win7 hostOS I improved as VmWare Tools in CentOS guestOS.

After that (and restart) I wanted to check/verify the current installed version of VmWare Tools and entered (as usual in previous versions):

    VMware-toolbox - version

Unfortunately, the Terminal was told: "unknown command".

    Who is wrong?

If not, how can I check the currently installed version of VmWare Tools?

    Matt

    Try the following command:

    vmware-toolbox-cmd --version

It reported the following on my setup:

    9.2.0.15626 (build-799703)

  • What version of vmware

Y at - it a free version of vmware to deploy desktops as a service? I'm looking to get hands on experience in the management of virtualized desktops. I have 6 windows xp computers used for internet and e-mail that would be perfect to convert. I want to manage workstations deployed as a group and my only requirment is that users individual needs would sign using their domain credentials. I'm a bit confused. Direction would be appreciated.

    concerning

    Donnie

If each user connects to their 'own' XP workstation, you can deploy your solution on VMware Hypervisor (ESXi free).  Free ESXi allows the use of 32 GB of memory host and you can manage with the vSphere client.  ESXi does not provide a management console so you would need a workstation to run the vSphere client.

Virtual machines would be operated in the same way that the XP workstations are now.  If you have deployed AD, the XP VMs came to add to it and users don't really see a difference between the physical access and computer virtual instances.

  • What is the latest version of VMware Player?

    Hello

There seems to be some confusion about the latest version of VMware Player.

Please see the screenshot. The title is 'VMware Player 4.0.2', but the individual downloads are "VMware Player 4.0.1".

I downloaded the Linux version and help-> about said 4.0.1.

So, how to get the version 4.0.2?

    TIA

    Kurt

    vmware01.png

If you click on the link download (win version) the downloaded file is 'VMware-player - 4.0.2 - 591240.exe' and the md5sum is different from the 4.0.1 download further down the page... If Im assuming this is actually 4.0.2 and they just made a mistake on the page.

  • advice on which version of vmware to use

Hi folks, I'm relatively new to VMWare and hope you can help me with this decision. We currently have VMWare vSphere 4 installed. I need to deploy 2 new VMWare hosts and I try to work what version of VMWare to deploy. I know there is a free version of ESXi 5 available that will be very good to host virtual machines, I need to run. I also know that if and when I want to upgrade these licenses free VMWare, I can do.

My question is in fact the real waiting even for ESXi 4 - is for free and can I upgrade the license as and when I want to? The advantage for the deployment of version 4 is that I can then add these hosts to my environment vSphere and use patterns (we do not have shared storage for vMotion or any other characteristic of type HA). Also are there advantages to using ESXi 5 as opposed to 4.

    Thoughts would be appreciated!

    Thank you

    Alastair

    Welcome to the community,

You can get a free license for ESXi 4.x and 5.x. What both of them have in common is that you can run only in the current state of the hosts only. They cannot be added to an instance of vCenter server. The main difference - in addition to the improvements of the new version - is when it comes to features licensed. With ESXi 4.x is not fundamentally about memory (256 GB) limit, but there is a limit of 6 cores per physical processor. With ESXi this change and you have now no more limits on processors and carrots, but you are limited to 32 GB of RAM for each host.

In your case, an inexpensive alternative to the free edition could be licensed vSphere Essentials including 1 instance of vCenter Server and processor licenses for up to 3 guests with 2 processors each. With this edition, the right of vRAM (sum of memory for VMs lit on all hosts) is 196 GB. In addition, with this license, you would be able to use the features of vCenter Server as for example 3rd party backup applications.

  • No web console with the version of VMware Server is a core 2.0.1 and 2.6.31 - 10-generic in Karmic AMD64

    Hello

I've successfully used vmware - server.2.0.1_x64 - modules - 2.6.30.4 - fix.patch to build modules on my laptop running Ubuntu Karmic Koala. VMware Server version is VMware server 2.0.1 - 2.0.1 - 156745.x86_64.tar.gz, and I'm running it with kernel 2.6.31 - 10-generic. The question I have is that while the web console seems to be running on port 8333, I can't get an answer from him. Has anyone else encountered this problem? See you soon.

OK, I got it to work. Try this in a terminal and let me know if it works for you too:

    VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK = force. Mozilla/Firefox/*.default/extensions/[email protected]/plugins/vmware-vmrc

    See you soon,.

My version of vcenter server is: 5.1.0 build 123532

I want to use vmware update manager update my vmware environment. So what version of MUV is necessary the download, thanks!

Yes, you can download 5.5 and the environment 5.1 to 5.5.

You will need to start by vCenter, then ESXi hosts.

After you are done before the two, you can go ahead and install VUM.

Another option is to upgrade vCenter, install VUM and then upgrade of servers using AUVS.
