VMware Tools for Mac on EsXi 5.5

I'm trying to install VMware Tools on a Mac on my 5.5 EsXi box.  I get the following error:

VMWare Tools upgrade error

Call 'VirtualMachine.MountToolsInstaller' for the 'host name' object on EsXi host failed.

VIX 21003 = error code

Anyone where I can download Vmware Tools for mac on an EsXi 5.5 box?  Perform a google search, I am led to this page to download VMware Tools:

Index of /45848/tools/esx/5.0

However, this site lists only on Windows and Linux.  I do not see any version of Vmware Tools Mac.

Nevermind, I was able to get rid of the error message by removing my cd player.  Its strange that after mounting will cause this error.  Also its strange that there isn't any downloadable version online.  But no matter I got it solved.

who was happy to install VMware tools...

I'll tell you one last time...  When clean install OS X 10.9 Mavericks under VMware Fusion 6.0.2 VMware Tools are not automatically installed!

In addition, it turns out that the "internal" or "removable" made no difference that I was able to move the vmdk from SATA, SCSI (appears inside the system) but that made no difference either but has been tested

I have mentioned that the drive internal vs external because VMware Fusion before 6.0.2 has not created a good installer for OS X 10.9 Mavericks nor was it settled the case, and the fact that it was not properly installed may have been a contributing factor to the VMware Tools install problem not necessarily imply that the disk shows as external!

I wonder if there is another way to install VMware Tools manually?  I can see the directory structure exposed within the darwin.iso but don't know if I can cp

This straight out of the iso, but not being is not a Mac OSX expert... don't know if I can run alternate and no package installer idea what files are changed by install VMware Tools.

Still confident enough, I can work around the issue of the installer.

I just tested this on a clean build and with the help of pacifists opened the VMware Tools.pkg (Install VMware Tools.app/Contents/Resources/VMware Tools.pkg) in the bundle 'Install VMware Tools.app' on darwin.iso (VMware Tools for OS X) and "Selected files.pkg content" then clicked on install and check 'use administrator privileges '.  He basically just moved the files in places and then after that I restarted the computer virtual VMware Tools seem to work.  I tested VMware shared folders, copy & paste, drag & drop, and change the resolution of the screen... all seem to work fine, however it was simply intended as a test and not a recommended method to install VMware Tools and I don't know if it is essentially a complete installation.  I don't have the time now to analyze the two occurrences, one made appropriately and the other using pacifists to see if there is in fact no difference.

I was also going to take the vmdk to another platform and see if any difference (doubt it will be)

  • VMware Tools for ESXi not in running and not installed

(nested) Tools of ESXi does not.

I installed an ESXi 5.5 nested on a physical and installed 5.5 ESXi host tools on the virtual ESXi5.5.

However both the client c# as the Web Client report not (not running, not installed) tools.

When I type 'list of software esxcli vib', I see the esx-tools-for-esxi in the list.

I have attached the vmware.log for the nested ESXi, I use nesting for several years only and had no problems.

You can install it via the tools provided with your ESXi installation. Right-click the virtual machine in the inventory and select comments-> installation / upgrade VMware Tools.

This will mount a CD player in the guest operating system, providing VMware tools. The steps to install on CentOS (i.e. RHEL base):

    root@srv20 [/ TMP] # cd/tmp

  • A few questions about VMware tools and U2 of ESXi 4.0 and 4.1

In my workplace, there is a cluster of vSphere 4 six nodes containing 5 servers ESXi 4.0 U2 (4.0.0, 261974) and a server ESXi 4.1 (4.1.0, 260247).  Aparently, it was built that way in the environment concept then deployed into production and now I head for VMware deployment.  This environment is up in producgtion now for over 8 months with this configuration, but starting to be more widely used.  Ideally, I know, we should have all the nodes on the same patch level, but here's the question.

Models used to get the operating system to the virtual machines in this environment were built on the apparently new 4.1 server using this version of VMware tools (Version 8.3.2 build-257859).  All so most of the running virtual machines, use this version of VMware tools.  Using this new version of VMware tools on a virtual machine running on a server ESXi 4.0 U2 ESXi would cause issues?  ESXi 4.0 U2 servers push version 4.0.0 build 261974 of the VMware tools, identical to the ESXi version.  The status of the VMware tools when the new 4.1 version is running on a host of U2 4.0 still shows as OK and we have operated this way for more than 8 months.

Another problem is that we have still a few other virtual machines with the 4.0 build U2 VMware tools so when these virtual machines will eventually be VMotioned to an ESXi 4.1 host, VMware tools show as outdated.

Until we can get of planned downtime to upgrade the servers, it should be like that for several weeks if possible.  We have HL7 interfaces on many of these virtual machines that are not too good with VMotion and being in an organization of health care, sometimes difficult to get downtime.  It is perhaps more possible to downgrade the only host to 4.0 U2 until we can plan time to upgrade all hosts.  I would keep the node in the cluster, even if for the moment, assuming that to release 4.1 with other guests at 4.0 U2 should not cause problems, since we can use the resources of that node in this cluster.

Until then, ensuring that all the virtual machines in the cluster use the ESXi version 4.1 of the VMware tools (Version 8.3.2 build-257859) would be acceptable?  I just wanted to check that this version should be fully backwards compatible with the previous version of ESXi 4.0 U2, and as I mentioned before, its run like that and have noticed yet all the problems and the status of the VMware Tools also records OK when this new version works on ESXi 4.0 U2 host computer.  I just wanted some feedback from those of the community.

    Thank you

Exactly, do you VMotion, virtual host 4.1 machine and if necessary would upgrade the VMware tools. To install VMware tools, it is necessary to restart the virtual machine.

And another option that I say is the first upgraded version of all hosts ESXi4.0 U2 to 4.1, after that, you do an upgrade in the tools of all virtual machines vmware.

    Perfect.

    You´re are welcome!

  • Is there an alternative to the Update Manager - download the latest VMWare Tools for Windows Server 2003

    Hello

I am really struggling to find an alternative to the Update Manager to download the latest VMWare Tools for Windows (Server 2003)

There must be a link of just download somewhere? I scoured VMWare.com nothing helps...

I can find of the OSP for other platforms (SUSE, Ubuntu etc), but nothing for Windows! Why?

    Any help really appreciated!

    Kind regards

So you are saying I need to download the latest version of ESX/vSphere and then extract the VM Tools of which rpm?

It might be a way to get them, if you are unable to install the product.

The version will say vSphere 4.0 be OK for ESXi 3.5 VMs?

  • VMware tools for windows 98

I'm fighting for two hours just to find the @$ & #^! VMware tools for Windows 98.

    For admins:

Is it so difficult to include a link and a line on the site somewhere?

With so many questions posted here, you already know that you don't have to make it all work automated, so in many cases a manual alternative is the only option.

After the installation of Windows 98, there was a message that Vmware tools OS installed but I still only 16 colors, 640 x 480 res and an answer that is worse than a slideshow, so I guess that no Vmware tools have been installed.

I tried some of the ISO images here https://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/index.html but they are not accepted for the player or the operating system.

So, Vmware tools option exists for Windows 98 or not?

    Hello

you do not have the option:

Player - manage?  (because theire you might normally before the installation process) to mount the iso,... and so on

have you tried to mount the Iso local player manually? (not the source vmware Web)

    you have enough disk space?

    Best regards

  • VMware Tools for FreeBSD using Server 5

    Hello

We run VMware Server 5 and I installed a RELEASE of FreeBSD 8.2 Guest 64-bit on the system.

The vmware-tools cd that goes up is only for Linux and not * BSD.

I have Google would be like crazy, but couldn't find anywhere to download the edition of FreeBSD.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

You have the Version/OS invited under change the settings from-> Options tab-> General Options on FreeBSD? If this isn't the case, that's maybe why you get bad VMware tools.

Try disabling the web Updater by going to Preferences > uncheck the "check the Web for updates at startup".

You can uninstall and then install vmware player.

You can also get the tools using Apt - get, instead of by the bias of the player interface. See this page:

I'm new to this game and that you have installed Windows 2000 in my VMWare Player, who continues trying in vain to download "VMWareTools for Windows 2000 and later versions - version 8.4.5". "    I searched on Google and the site of VMWare to see if I can manually enter this Tools for Windows and stable it me but again once I have had no success: I can't find Tools for Windows 8.4.5 or any other version anyware.

I'd appreciate some tips so that I can begin to familiarize themselves with virtualization.

To manually install VMware Tools on a Windows host download just unzip the archive and run the .exe which result and that will create the windows.iso file and will be available when you select install VMware Tools.

On a Linux host unzip archive and then in a Terminal, for example, run the following command:

    sudo vmware-installer --install-component=vmware-tools-windows-8.4.5-324285.i386.component

This opens the installer GUI and then you just follow the instructions.  When the windows.iso is available when you install VMware Tools

  • Cannot install vmware tools for xp vm

    Player 3.1.3 on Ubuntu 10.10

Installs a XP VM to this platform - formerly hosted by VMWare Server 1.x on XP also. It works! Installation of the Vmware tools just leads to the 'there was a problem updating a software component. Try again later and if the problem persists, contact your system administrator or the VMware Support. "So I... Help, please!

By the way... German XP inside the VM!

    Herbert

You must first extract the files in the archive, then use sudo in the command line in a Terminal.

An example would be in a Terminal...

    sudo vmware-installer --install-component=vmware-tools-linux-8.4.4-301548.x86_64.component

To display the GUI installer and then you just follow the instructions.

For VMware Windows tools that you have downloaded the command line should be as follows.

    sudo vmware-installer --install-component=vmware-tools-windows-8.4.5-324285.i386.component

If you have installed VMware Tools and they are running properly (icon of blue squares in the system tray), and then try to connect and logging in XP (not OS X), if it does not, choose Virtual Machine > install VMware Tools and after the home screen, select the option fix.

  • Is ESX VMWare tool for distance learning classes?

I'm trying to understand the VMWare tool to meet our needs, and Googling does not do me much good.  Can someone point me in the right direction please?

I'm a software trainer.  I'm at a client site.  Sitting in front of me are 12 students who are here to learn how to operate a particular software.  Each of them needs their own separate PC that contains the installed package.  Each student must be able to start and stop services on this PC.  Now, I could install a separate VMWare image on each of their PCs, but it is about 15 GB of space that they have not necessarily available, and I have to trust them to delete their hard drives after class is over.

OR... I could tell the students to 12 separate virtual machines running on a server remote back in my office.  I think it looks much better than 12 individual facilities on 12 PCs, that may not be appropriate for the task.

So, what tool VMWare should I for it?  And once that is installed on the server at my Galactic headquarters in Timbuktu, how do students access a specific 12 images running on this server, in order to run programs and start and stop the services in this image exactly as if it were an image VMware installed on their own PC?

    Thank you!

If it's something you need NOW, the best bet would be to deploy 12 VPC via vCenter or your ESX host, enable RDP on the VPC and RDP in each vPC.  This will give you access to each student for the own work station.

Since space is a problem on the physical devices, then VMware Workstation may not be your best bet right now.

Now you can take a look at VMware View
