    Hi guys

I have a x 3650 M2 aging IBM server running the free version of vSphere 4 Hypervisor ESXi 4.1.0 260247.

I'm looking to install esxi version 4.1 Patch11.

    I have a few questions:
    1. I am able to patch to version 4.1 Patch11 without having to re - build the host and re - import the virtual machine?

    2. I am able to buy the paid version of the Patch11 4.1 so I can get the support of VMware? If so where can I buy it.

  • VMWare vSphere v5.5 ESXi install errors

    Hello

I'm trying to install VMWare vSphere, ESXi v5.5 on a machine that I've used as a Windows 2008 Server. Pretty well spec'd (core i5, 8 GB, 3.5 TB of space etc.), but it's just a generic machine with a motherboard micro ATX ASUS and so on. I use an external USB DVD drive.

It support (or seems to load) GRUNB fails with an error of '22 '. When I changed the BIOS to AHCI settings error replaced by "Error 21".

I tried to eliminate any problems:

    • Tested the drive and the USB on a core i3 laptop [AOK]
    • Checked hardware virtualization is enabled in the BIOS OF THE system [YES]
    • I tried vSphere 5.1 [SAME MISTAKES]

Does anyone have ideas, what could cause this problem?

That is right.  Currently, there is no update for ESXi 4.1.  There is no 'patch Tuesday' for VMware products, and the best is to register on the list of Patch/maintenance alerts , Security Advisory site or check the patch download site .

  • VMware vSphere 5 Essentials Kit for 3 guests (3 physical servers)

    Hello

I currently use the number of servers with the free version of VMWare ESXi 5.

So now I want to use more RAM and want to have more tools like backup tool, clone.

I've been reading in vmware site but it makes me a bit of confusion.

Can someone clarify this for me:

    1. what should I do after the 'VMware vSphere Essentials Kit' command that allows me to manage 3 physical servers, while I use "VMware vSphere Client" free edition?

2 should I change or action with "VMware vSphere Hypervisor?

    3. the fee of $495 is a right to life or it's annual fee? The subscription is required for first year only, is that correct?

    4. "VMware vSphere Essentials Kit' supports up to 192 GB of RAM per physical server and max of 32 GB of RAM per VM?

    5. What is the difference with "VMware vSphere Standard" edition?

    It's a few links I've read:

1 + 2) Just enter the new license key. No need to reinstall the hosts or stop the virtual machines. In the oder to the Manager of all 3 hosts from the same management interface, you must configure vCenter Server, which is included in the Kit of Essentials.

3.) after the initial purchase, it's your decision if you renew the subscription after the first year.

4.) there have been a few changes since release of vSphere regulatory policy 5. With the release of vSphere 5.5 all material limitations (cores per CPU and RAM) have been removed (see http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf).

  • Versions of VMware vSphere

What is the difference between "VMware vSphere Essentials Kit" and "VMware vSphere Standard" in terms of features?

    www.VMware.com/Products/vSphere/Pricing.html

I'm looking for professional use in VMware.

    Thank you

P2V is possible NFB free esxi edition, no problem. You can also manage via vsphere client where you'll have GUI and you create VMS with vsphere client that connects to the ESXi host.

But it cannot be managed by vcenter to get the functionality as HA, DRS, vMotion, models etc.

As you have mentioned that you have pretty much a box with VM sound your decision to go with free or licensed.

If you go with free version of ESXi, you can have only 32 GB vRAM right. This means that if your physical machine have more than 32 GB of RAM can also create virtual machine with no more than 32 GB of RAM.

If you decide to go for licenses of its better to choose more essential rather than vsphere standard edition.

As essential or essential more is a group package which also come with 192 GB of vRAM, with a maximum power of 3 home with 2 processor and a vcenter license. Cost is lower than vsphere standard edition.

  • What products VMware is right for me?

    Guys,

I'm new to VMware, trying to learn the product to consolidate our dev servers. We have two servers used in dev for the test environment, the work load is very light. Servers are 32-bit windows 2003 with IIS and SQL 2000/2005 installed. My main goal is to streamline servers, we do not need other fancy features. I did not yet have VMware installed to test the ESXi because that hw limited in our laboratory. I see that ESX is free and can meet my goal, consolication servers, but after I spoke to a representative of selling server there said I should go with VMware vSphere standard.

I really do not have much experience because I did not use VMware. You can advice the right product VMware that will work for me? I have couple more days to catch up with the knowledge but any input on your part is a big help.

    Kind regards

For your basic requirments, you'll have enough of ESXi: you will consolidate your serversm, but you will not be able to use extra feautures, while you will be able to buy in the future if you wish.

ESXi can be perfectly installed on USB and VMs can be stored on the external NAS or SAN solution which will give you the consolidation of storage devices.

  • VMware Vsphere HA (problem of storage in common) and problem of band network bandwidth

    Hi all

I am setting up VMware VSphere HA on ESXI 6.0

I have 5 hosts running, each host has 2 management networks main network 1 vMotion and 1 network card for balancing with the management network. (each NIC 1Gbit uplink)

I also attached to each card a FC (Fiber Channel) connected to HP 3PAR storage.

each host have 1 TB or 2 TB Fiber Channel-attached storage.

When I was setting up the AP he stated that he did not have any shared how storage can I allow other hosts to see each store data as a shared storage. NB: when I go vsphere client to web I see all the storage of each host.

I also want to allow FT on a virtual machine, I have also a problem of bandwidth insuffisent or something. .

also, I enabled fault tolerance on each NIC attached to the host.

also another question: should I export volumes (LUNS) to all hosts in the AP? (in fact I exported each volume to each host separately) for example:

    Volume 1: HP3PAR_ESX1 exported to HOST ESX1

Volume 2: HP3PAR_ESX2 exported to the ESX2 HOST

    Volume 3: HP3PAR_ESX3 exported to ESX3 HOST

    .. .etc

can you me clear on this issue or guide me to where I can solve these problems please.

When I try to activate the FT on the VM I the following warning attached

This message was edited by: coolirc attached image FT problem

There are memory FT requirements compatible VM is through two virtual, primary and secondary computers. so it will consume the same amount of resources of both ESXi hosts.

VM with 10 GB of RAM allocation, turn on FT booking VM is now 10 GB RAM, so 10 GB + VMkernel consumption General host running primary VM and same amount of the host that is running with secondary VM. on top of this admission control in support of the failures of host we are going to tolerate so say primary VM host fails, then secondary VM becomes the new primary and triggers a new high school to be created and powered in one of the other host survivor in your HA cluster but which will be successful only when you have sufficient resources available to satisfy a reservation.

your source host has 16 GB of RAM and one of the destination host also got 16 GB of RAM, so if you try to activate pi after disabling admission control on your cluster policy, I think that it should allow you to activate FT without errors. [if it still does not work so if possible, turn off all other virtual machines for free resources or to try to reduce their reservation manually if they are running with a reservation and try again.]

with admission control, the necessary resources would be even higher.

screenshot of Cluster summary reports that you have 4 guests in it and the memory resources available about 30 GB to 60 GB total memory. But isn't always the right figure, if you go to the monitor-> book resources, is where you will find actual "ready reserve", it's the right amount of reserve memory that you will be able to use across several virtual machines, you run in your cluster.

I tried 2 vCPU vm FT in vSphere 6, works very well, but never tried with Hardware version 8, in your case, your virtual machine is hardware version 8, although I'm not sure if it is mandatory to have the hardware version 11 VM for FT so ideally it should work, but virtual hardware version if possible vm upgraded to 11.

You must obtain new licenses to deploy VMware vSphere 6.0. VMware vSphere 4.x and 5.x existing licenses vSphere will not work on vSphere 6.0.

  • Easy VMware vCenter Server for Essentials Question

    Hi all

We are looking to buy VMware vSphere Essentials for use in our Test/development environment and had a question about vCenter Server for Essentials. I know this is a light version of the 'standard' vCenter, but is there any reason that I could not run this version in a VM to manage the node 3 environment "Essentials" like I do in my "regular vSphere cluster?"

    TIA,

    -Jason

I see no problem at all with your server vCenter Server running as a virtual machine. In addition, it is fully supported.
