  Starting with the system will create a swap file at least as large as the file being opened. If changes are made then these files will usually stick around as auto-enregistre until the file itself is saved or closed. It is also possible that the large file pushes the other system processes in virtual memory on the disk. That said, unless there are compression/decompression funky stuff going on that I can't imagine a 1 GB file to consume more than 10 GB in "temporary" resources

  I would like to check the status of the Application ~/Library/Caches/ and ~/Library/Saved / for the missing hard drive space (you may need to use the GoTo option in the Finder).

  Usually nothing deleted in the above locations will be automatically recreated when you next run of the corresponding application, but clearing out rarely used application files could release (temporarily) a little extra space. Destruction can also solve problems of application-specific file corruption.

  Otherwise double check that you remembered to empty the trash.

  I'm new to esxi, then I've probably missed something obivous. But I'm running a Server Windows 2012, and I wanted to add a new hard drive for storage.

  I added a new 2 TB HDD (virtual disk new created, used thick Prov. and scsci), but then (for other reasons probably) it is a not introduce yourself in my server, little matter what I did, so I decided to remove the hard drive and then try again. And here's the problem, these 2 TB that I previously had been assigned but now deleted, moved from my data store. I expect the free space on the data store to increase these CT 2, I just deleted the virtual computer, but not... they are not there. I tried again, but with a smaller size this time (40GB if this is important) and deleted, same thing... disk space is not go back into the data store.

  Now, I guess I missunderstood, or more probably not clicked on something else which is necessary. That's why I'm here hoping for the support of you guys =)

  When you have removed the disk you selected the option 'remove virtual machine and delete the files from disk '?  You will need to do a new analysis under storage to the reclaimed space.  Let me know if this helps.

  Last night I looked through the corner of my screen where the icons of trey are and saw that the clock in the taskbar had disappeared! A vacant rectangle was in its place. I got it later return by unchecking and checking the box for the clock to display in the options, but tonight I looked and saw that the button show desktop is now gone. This time I got it back by logging on and once again, but it's very strange to have just stuff BLIP! Go into the ether just like that, without any reason whatsoever. Just glance on and go!

  In fact, I discovered what the problem was by downloading WinDirStat and apparently Norton 360 has created approximately 66GB of backups so I deleted all those and my hard drive is back to normal.

  Of course it was something so simple... oh well at least it's fixed now.

  I have a Gateway with Windows Vista laptop.  I tried to clean up disk space using disk cleanup, deletion of temp. files from the Internet and even delete programs and files I don't use.  For some reason, the amount of free space on my C drive keeps getting smaller and smaller!  Is it because I have a virus download programs and taking up space?  I'm not add additional programs or files.

  For example, earlier today, I had 2 GB of free space left, and I noticed its been slowly decreasing.  I'm at 435 MB as I write this.

  System Restore will have up to 15% of your disk space when creating restore points, so he can easily eat disk space on hard disks that are already full. By disabling the system restore can back space for you, once you re-enable the system restore then fresh restore points will be created (i per day) and the space will start to disappear again.   Hello, I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit on my Hp Pavillion DV7-1130us laptop, and I've upgraded initially to Widows Vista Service Pack 2 Friday, September 11. At first, I was really happy because I didn't 109 GBS left before the upgrade, and the upgrade brought me up to 134GBS. Unfortunately although after about 3 days, that I noticed without me download anthing major other than 2 episodes of the show on a 100MBS each hard drive space has been mysteriously disappear. He went from 134 to 120 with no logical explanation as to why.

  So on Monday I restored the computer and reinstall the Service pack, he brought me back up to 134 again once this time I do not download one thing and Friday night, it was the same problem. After changing the amount of space reserved for shadow copying.restoring max 33 concerts in 10 that it gave me no space is back. Yesterday, I restored and reinstalled the pack once again and yesterday and today, he went up to 129 CONCERTS without logical reason. So why the service pack give me back rear HD only to disappear without being able to use it? If anyone can give me insight in how I can prevent this and get the space back, I'd be very happy that I did not have this problem before the upgrade.
