  • Disabled wallpaper

I have problems with the background settings/options on my computer. If I go to the control panel the option click background isn't here. If I search in the search on the right bar, click background appears. When I clicked this option, I get a message that says: "this feature has been disabled. Please contact your system administrator for more details. "I am the owner of my PC and I did not disable this option. I'm sure I had malware here before and it has since been removed and my PC is much more tightly controlled now and I'm sure it was the cause of this problem. I entered in the register and published the keys about the background.

    I have

ActiveDesktop > (default) value not set
    The Explorer >

    System >

    (default) Not the value

Nothing else is there. I have another profile on this computer where the account also of doesn't have the ability to change the background.

I wonder if anyone knows of any other place I should be looking or change something in order to once again change my wallpaper.

  • Disable the wallpaper slide show in Vista.

Original title: Cancel the wallpaper slide show on Vista

My sister has a problem with a slide show of wallpaper happening, when it has not yet been created.   She seems to not have the opportunity to create even when I defeated his office appearance, it only shows me how to put an image on his desk. There is no "check box" on his choice of photos for the office.  She has the version of the student pack and I also have the Home Premium version that shows no other choice to have a slide show funds either.

She used to have just a picture and no problems with a slide show.  Suddenly the slide show began.  How can I stop this slide show for her?

    Judith Mitchell

    Hi Judith Mitchell.

You are using a desktop computer or a laptop?

This usually occurs on laptops according to adapter connected or if your laptop runs on a battery. To save a few, it usually changes the wallpaper on your computer automatically.

I suggest that you do this:

    a. Click Start, Control Panel.
    b. Select power options

Note: If the Power Options is not available, change seen by large icons at the top right of the control panel.

    c. click on the plan next to to change power management settings.
    d. click on change advanced power settings.
    e. click on change settings that are currently unavailable unlock the advanced power settings
    f. put slide show under wallpaper and then suspended state settings click OK to save the changes.

A few weeks ago, I noticed on my laptop so that the screen background image showed that enlarged. I changed it to different images (I know have been very well before), but whenever the background would show zoomed in the upper left corner of the magnified image.

I also noticed from position in the desktop display properties menu is dimmed, it is defined as 'centre' and because it is disabled I can't change that.

If I use one of the default windows xp background, for example. Tulips, he he tiles on the screen (screen 4). If I use a really small resolution image, then it will also be tiles on the screen.

I have had no major software or the modification of the computer during the last month when I noticed this problem, I run antivirus and everything looks very well and no incidents or virus alerts.

I tried to change the resolution of the screen, but made no difference, the desktop background appears still extended. It makes no difference if I select images from the display properties & browse or right-click & together like wallpaper to an image directly. I can't understand this!

    Hi, College:

I'm happy to help you with this problem.

First of all, scan your computer with the help of a current antivirus; of many virus/spyware cause symptoms like yours.

The message "this feature has been disabled. For more information, contact your administrator" appears when someone has applied a policy to disable the ability to change the background. There are 3 involved policies:

    1. click on Start, type regedit and press ENTER.

    2. navigate to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem\\\

    3. check if the key contains one of the following values (on the right pane). If so, delete them:

    NoDispCpl
    NoDispBackgroundPage

    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 but now navigate to this registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

    5. navigate to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop

    6. check if the key contains this value. If so, delete it:

    NoChangingWallPaper

    7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 but now navigate to this registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop

    8. close the registry editor, restart your computer and try to change your background. Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience
