  I see no way to repair the permissions in El Capitan. Used to be in disk utility. This can be very problematic when you print photos with the Epson photo printers. (Maybe also other brands.)

  Need to know a little more to help - what kind of error message you get when it crashes? Look in the Console application and select 'All Messages', and note what kind of new messages appear when you try to run iPhoto.

  Other programs have similar problems or just iPhoto?
