What is the right way to expand the virtual disk and then the OS partition?

I have a Windows XP operating system in a virtual machine VMware.  I have

you want to increase the size of the hard drive.  It currently has a 50 GB

partition on a 50 GB VHD.  I increase the size of the

50 GB to 100 GB in VMware virtual hard drive.  Then, can I use

Windows disk management to increase the size of my partition of the

side OS to use all the 100GB he sees now?  Or will

corrupt my data or cause a problem as I really need to

use a third party tool like EAUSUS inside Windows to extend Windows

on the size of the virtual hard disk?

In fact the way you describe, resize the virtual disk and then developing the partition are the way to go. But there are some things that you should be

aware of.

-If the VHD is on an IDE controller, you may not be able to resize the virtual disk. In this case use the converter. With the converter, you can resize the disk including the partition and - if desired - replace the IDE controller by a SCSI controller.

-If you have only one partition under XP (that is, drive c :)) you cannot extend the partition with the diskmanager/diskpart. In this case, start your virtual machine from a CD/DVD Vista/Windows 7 in Repair Mode, open a command line and use "diskpart" from there to "extend" your partition.

    Hello

    The third partition is Vista.
Vista creates two partitions; a partition common to install the system and the second partition hidden for the backup files. These backup files are important for Vista. Vista needs him to repair the operating system if something will go wrong

So it s is strongly recommended to leave this partition on the HARD disk

  • Expand a virtual disk in VMware?

I was wondering if it is possible to extend the system on one of my virtual machines partition? I know that I can add another hot player, but I desperately need to extend system partition... Thanks in advance

If your virtual machine is Windows 2008 and you use ESX 3.5 U2 so you can develop the disk online. Change the settings on the virtual machine, and then in the prompt use diskpart to extend the system partition to use the extra space.

If you use an earlier version of Windows or ESX, you can always extend the partition but the virtual machine must be turned off. Power off the virtual machine, rotate the VMDK is through changing the settings (ESX3.5) or vmkfstools-x console, then attach the drive system of the virtual machine to a different VM Windows or start the virtual from a WinPE computer. ISO and use diskpart to extend partition as described above.

For more information about the use of MS diskpart just google, plenty of info out there.

  • Help, please! Snapshot after expand VM, virtual disk parent has changed since the child was created

OK, here's the situation, (maybe you can find a lot of discussion on this one)

I have a vmware server running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10. I use as its host vmware ESX 3.0.1.

I realize that I need to extend the drive because he must have more space disk for the production server. Then I resize the disk using vmkfstools x 90 G TARANTELA - TEST.vmdk. The bad news is, I didn't know that the server has a snapshot on VI client. As you know, the error occurred:

Reason: The virtual disk parent has been changed since the child was created

Then I remove the snapshot of the VI client and re-save the virtual machine to inventory, but it may yet open the disc unless I edited the .vmx line file:

    scsi0:0. FileName = 'TARANTELA-TEST - 000007.vmdk '.

    TO

    scsi0:0. FileName = ' TARANTELA - TEST.vmdk.

It runs as the first time I installed the system, but all the important configuration is in 'TARANTELA-TEST - 000007.vmdk' snapshot.

Someone there the sollution, how can I do my work of snapshot again?

  • How do to activate 'VAPP Options' on an existing virtual machine, and then add the properties that will be passed down through the OVF - ENV. XML

I'm trying to understand vSphere PowerCLI how to activate the "Options of VAPP" on an exsiting VM (in this case a model freshly cloned) then add properties and select cdrom of the FVO data access such as when the virtual machine is running the FVO - env.xml contains the properties in the CD-ROM drive.

If I use the vSphere client and open the virtual machine settings and click on the tab 'Options' and then select "Options of VAPP" and change the setting to "Enabled" and then select 'VAPP-> Advanced Options' and click on the button 'Properties' on the right, I can add the properties and then I can change them vsphere PowerCLI, but given that these actions are not retained if I clone the virtual machine I need a way to put these in place of vSphere PowerCLI without using the vSphere client to do.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You can use the vSphere API to activate the 'Options of VAPP"on an existing virtual machine, and set properties. For example:

    $spec.vAppConfig = new-Object VMware.Vim.VmConfigSpec

    $spec.vAppConfig.property = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertySpec [] (1)

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertySpec

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] .operation = 'Add '.

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0] = new-Object VMware.Vim.VAppPropertyInfo .info

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.key = 0

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.classId = "Property1ClassID".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.instanceId = "Property1InstanceID".

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.id = "Property_1.

    $spec.vAppConfig.property [0].info.category = "Property1Category".

Something like this is not possible.
You can use it to have the State of plant again and again, but some sort of change or extension is not possible.

  • Possible to suspend a virtual machine, and then disconnect the SAN?

I decided to do an interview on a small environment ESX 3.5 and I was wondering if its possible to suspend a VM and then disconnnect the SAN to maintain SAN.  If I record data suspends storage local would this work? Is it more fast and stop the virtual machine and the power save?  There is the performance of 6 virtual machines on a single host with a single iSCSI SAN.

was wondering if its possible to suspend a VM and then disconnnect the SAN to maintain SAN.

A suspension is identical to a power off, it shows just the guest to Hibernate.  So yes, it is safe.

Is it more fast and stop the virtual machine and the power save? There is the performance of 6 virtual machines on a single host with a single iSCSI SAN.

No its not faster, its more fast and more reliable to power off the virtual machine rather than suspend.  If you need to follow the process and suspend its critical use, otherwise a scheduled interruption is better.

  • Any way to record Audio narration first and then video then?

I think it's a better workflow (and ends up being faster than both both audio and recording after). We found another program that will allow us to do (but that has fewer features than Captivate).

Our work will not spring for the two so we're throwing on the workflow functions (unless someone knows how do - hopefully its really obvious and I were just being dumb).

I know that in the past, people have used the notes in a PowerPoint slide - just seems weird, you can't do it for other types of video recording and demos.

    Any ideas?

Scaffolding is a pedagogical concept in education. This is a pretty good explanation (even just the first paragraph): http://edglossary.org/scaffolding/

Scaffolding of process (and providing limitation or restriction) can be a good way to ensure a higher quality end product. If you use a software like Adobe voice he had built scaffolding process and restrictions. First you choose a structure (who made suggestions on what should cover each slide), and then you save the audio (never longer than ten seconds at a time) and then you adjust your layout and then you choose icons or images or text you sort your music and then you go through and then you export (and adjust export credits and titles). This is a truncated version of the film process that will guide you to make a better product. It's (one of the reasons) for which voice projects come out much more pleasant and the profession you could do on other software. You could do the same thing with PowerPoint, but you would use copious workaround solutions to get your content and PowerPoint does not provide you with this scaffolding as well, even as the most talented producers still fighting produce something better than a typical project of the voice.

I'm not fussed on the subject all beings in a single product. I use the product adobe for over 15 years now - I can switch between programs that respond to different tasks. The real reason, I can't use both, it's that my work won't pay for two software which have similar results. If Captivate could do screencast-o-matic can do (without the workaround solutions), it would be a simple choice to go with Captivate. It would be even to be in the Captivate program - it could be in a sister program available with package of Captivate. The same way After Effects and first compliment.

Now, it seems Captivate has more functions, but an integrated of any process which means that we will probably just stick with Screencast-O-Matic.

What I want to really, it is on Adobe to take the understanding of theories and teaching that they applied to the voice and slate and apply that Captivate (or a program that is packaged in a purchase of Captivate). I think it's weird that they have not yet...

  • Expand a virtual disk with new physical disks?

    Hello people,

Pleas in law not to shoot me to ask what I fear it may have already answered somewhere and my research is poor and as still not turned up the answer.

I'm relatively new to VMware, previous job was especially MS Hyper-V and is always to some extent.

Hower to the point in question, I have a single host (VMware ESXi 5.0.0) with a single server VMware 2008R2 on her guest and the C: drive is quickly running out of space. The existing, aligned hard disk virtual hard disk has 10 GB free to extend the ramdisk with.

Therefore, my thoughts are I might add an another one or two new physical disks and add them to the data store that is aligned with the virtual C:\drive to the comment server, I would then be able to extend the exisitng C:\ virtual hard disk with the new ability to drive two new physical drives added?

Hope this sense makses, hoing it's okay and I get out of jail!

    Hello

What changes have been made to your computer before the problem?

I would like you to do the following.

    Step 1:

Open the Windows Media Player settings troubleshooting utility and check if this helps solve the problem.

    Step 2:

I also suggest you to reduce the speed of extraction of the parameters.

    Step 3:

If the above steps fails, then perform the clean boot procedure to check whether a third-party program installed on the computer is the origin of the problem. Clean boot helps eliminate conflicts of third party software.

  • Consolidation of many to one of the virtual disks?

    Hello world

I use a XP client inside a Windows 7 host (using 8 workstations).

In the configuration of my XP virtual machine I previously assigned (of 50 gigabytes) of disk space into separate virtual folders, about 2 GB each, as shown below.

    Capture.JPG

I now want to have a single vmdk file, with the pre-allocated 50 GB of capacity.

Is it possible that I can achieve this goal, while keeping my VM in tact? For example can I create a second virtual disk, and then use a cloning tool (from the client) BONE to make a copy to the new virtual drive?

Here, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    DAVO

    Hello world

This can indeed be done! Because I started with a scalable, split, virtual disk, there were several steps; Here's the gist of these measures-

    (1) using the vmware-vdiskmanager merge files into a single.

    http://hostilecoding.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/VMware-merge-multiple-VMDKs-into-single.html

Note: when running this utility do not forget to include the '2' parameter, which refers to the creation of a virtual disk prealloue, otherwise the following steps (use the shrinkvd program will NOT work!).

Here is a screenshot of the order that worked for me-

    (2) add the newly created virtual disk, 'merged.vmdk' to the existing virtual machine, using these installation instructions.

    https://www.VMware.com/support/WS5/doc/ws_disk_add_virtual.html

    (3) remove the existing virtual machine virtual drive

    (4) to start the Virtual Machine (you will probably be asked if you have moved or copied the VM, I responded with "Proposed").

(Optionally)-rename the virtual disk of "merged" into something else by renaming the files in the ".vmx" and "hard" files.

    (5) using the shrinkvd resize the virtual disk

    http://www.Softpedia.com/get/system/system-miscellaneous/shrinkvd.shtml

Above, note that the first time, I ran the command it failed with the message "ddb.deletable" is the crux of the problem. I just deleted this line in the relevant file "hard" and the command is represented.

Now, when I boot on my virtual XP I use only 24 GB of space, and I am able to transfer the Virtual Machine to a smaller drive. in this case a 30 Gig old SSD.

    I hope this helps others.

    Kind regards

    DAVO
