What should I do to move from Vista, which I have no disk or key for Windows 7?

I bought my computer with Vista already installed without disks or product keys to talk about.  When I get the product key 'system', provided that it is authenticated had "OEM" in a part of the key.  It's true that I can't buy a Windows 7 upgrade version if it is an OEM of Vista version?  Should what version I?  He is currently 32-bit.  I choose either 32 or 64 bits for the new os?

If you have Vista, you can buy the Windows 7 upgrade version, it does not matter if Vista is OEM.

If you are running Windows Vista , in some cases you can proceed directly to Windows 7, and in other cases, you must perform a custom installation. The following table shows what editions of Windows Vista can be upgraded to Windows 7.

Windows Vista Home Basic

Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate

Windows Vista Business

Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate

Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Windows 7 Ultimate

  • Accidentally purchased Windows 7 Upgrade from Vista but they have XP

    I have Windows XP.

I made a custom from the disc of Windows 7 Setup, but it is designed for Vista upgrade only. Bought by mistake off Newegg, my mistake.

Product key is not accepted because Vista 7 has not been installed.

Is there a way to get around this?

I'm out of luck and will have to buy the full version?

    Thank you!

As far as I know, there is no product that you are inferring that you have (a media/product Windows 7 upgrade key for Windows Vista upgrade system based only).  You need to simply (by design) perform a clean installation of Windows XP to Windows 7.

Your problem is you installed Windows 7, but do not have the product key to activate, if you want to go back to the original OS that came with your machine, namely Vista.

In the case of a computer from a major manufacturer contact them via their web site.  Many have recovery media low cost for just the situation you encounter.  Also they can cause (however unlikely) a new product key to replace the one that has rubbed off.  If all else fails see also: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;326246

    Hello djplexus

First, you will need to understand how to set up the dual boot. This will allow you to be able to choose between XP and 7 at startup.
With regard to the creation of an image of Windows XP Backup there is no Windows XP software that will do it for you. You will need to look to third-party vendors for support with this issue. Thank you.
