When I boot my xp pro, I get "ntldr is missing, press control, alt, delete".

When I boot my xp pro, I get "ntldr is missing, press control, alt, delete" I have 3 hard drives, and it's the same for everyone. I put in a cd of xp slipstream and changed the boot order so it starts on the cd. It's the only way it will start to my office. Without the cd, I get the error message. I tried to restore the files ntldr and ntdetect from the slipstream xp cd, but still not the same error. Thanks for any help.

I tried your suggestion when I realized that I had an external USB disk back to home. I unplugged the drive and XP then started normally. Hard to believe it was simple. I didn't even know the boot sequence to check the USB keys. This is one I will not forget. Also composed a floppy such BACK suggested for any future problems. Thank you. You people are great. I really appreciate your help. It's nice to have my computer back once again!

All the best,

Larry

Dells have generally 3 partition boot disks:

    • A hidden Dell utility Partition
    • The Partition of the OS (Windows)
    • A hidden the Dell PC Restore Partition

    One of you is afflicted.

Have you had a power failure these days?

This symptom of NTLDR missing is quite common

It could be that the file is really missing, or it could be that XP don't "find" it because the file system is damaged and you must simply run a chkdsk/r from the XP Recovery Console.

If you have no real XP bootable installation CD to enter the Recovery Console, look in the tutorials section for how to make a bootable CD from the Console of the Recovery XP (no XP media required).

Then use the Recovery Console to verify the integrity of your file system.

You can run "fixboot" from the XP Recovery Console CD.

You DO NOT need to run "fixmbr" However for who could destroy scores of Dell and just leave you with a XP partition.

Check out the tutorial describing the question "NTLDR is missing", and then apply these methods of troubleshooting and resolution first.

Maybe someday the dialog box 'ask a question' forums XP will ask these questions automatically when a new thread is started so I don't have to ask every time.  It might even be possible to solve a problem in a single response when enough information is provided.

Please provide additional information on your system:

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a CD/DVD drive work?

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

    Hello

I recently bought a Samsung 120 GB 840 Evo Series SSD to start my operating system and general programs faster than my current hard drive. I want to keep my hard drive 2 TB of storage mass (videos, music etc...) but I want to migrate my OS on my SSD. I copied my Program Files x 86 for my SSD and I went into the BIOS and set my boot option #1 and #1 Boot priority to my SSD, however, after I save and exit the BIOS, I'm greeted by the message "Boot MGR missing - Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to reset" and now I don't know what to do.

    Any advice would be great!

Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

    -

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.

    -

Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

When you get your system in good working condition, I invite you to back up your system up to an external hard drive and make it regular periodic updates.

  • Once implemented freezes screen, can get out of gel by Ctrl-alt-delete, starts in safe mode

I had to do a full system recovery on my computer with Vista. Towards the end of installation screen is frozen on a blue screen which says that it was a single configuration screen and to ignore the messages etc. other than those who might ask you to restart.  This form has remained for more than 1 hour and a half before I dared to think that there might be frozen by pressing Ctrl-alt-delete and then cancel I could get the desktop to appear how I was responsible for approving some updates, more than 90 more.  Half of these updates failed, but future attempts had succeeded re installation. Now everytime I restart the computer, it goes back to the original blue single please wait screen.  I can go out with Ctrl-alt-delete. I also tried Microsoft Fix - It and the sfc/scannow not detected no problems. Any suggestions would be welcome.  Thank you.  Susan

  • Windows Vista boot problems, need to press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to work around

original title: VISTA Boot Up problem

I have an emachine with Vista for over 2 years with no problems, but recently, when I turn on the PC I get a black screen that says: "Boot From CD-ROM AHCI.  NVIDIA Boot Agent 249.0542.  Client MAC ADDR: 00 1 D 72 A9 D7 B6 GUIDE FFFFFF... "In order to get past this screen, I press Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will then start VISTA.  The last 3 days, the Ctrl-Alt-Delete method failed the first time and I had to repeat up to 3 times.  Now I wonder how long the Ctrl-Alt-Del bypass method will last.  What can I do to get the pc to boot normally again?

    start in safe mode.

    Choose Repair computer

Or the last known good configuration.

If windows loads in safe mode then uninstall any recently installed.

Maybe do a system restore to an earlier date.

I took the hard drive and did a fresh install of XP by attaching the drive to another computer. The hard disk starts well on the other computer, but I get the error message on the Pro 4600.

    Hello

Are you sure that the CD drive is dead?
I have goggled a bit on the net and found some practical information that there may be some HDD malfunction.
Some guys advised to use the command CHKDSK C: /R to solve this problem.

But if it's a cd player error, it should be possible to disable the drive in Device Manager.
