  At the bottom of my list of fonts are a bunch of Chinese fonts. The list seems to grow over time (it happened much lately).  When I select most of these fonts work and they appear as the standard alphabet characters but I do not use them. How do I remove these?   Note: in the library files (mac OSX) these fonts do not appear under the Chinese name charters, they appear as standard font names. So I have no way of knowing the name of the font, so I can not find it and delete it.

  and from the beginning, without any manipulation, all of my fonts are "larger" than they should be. They are stretched in height.

  You can possibly try and rest the character? Highlight the text. Go to the character Panel > reset the character. The problem happens when you keep you type?

  They are active, most likely in Firefox. Especially things like Flash and silverlight. As a guest post Thunderbird doesn't allow plugins and pose a risk to security. But as they are already installed, they are disabled by default.

  The downloadable Shockwave player version (not flashing) is 12.1.3.153 and not 15.0.0.152 as you can be confusing which version of the flashplayer reached before.
