Why can't I control my subfolders? (And how many files am I missing?)

I'm trying everything under the Sun to import my last set of pictures in a subfolder in my collection. Import-> copy, import-> move and import-> add all seem to place the photos in a new folder in the root directory of my catalog, although the photos end up in the right place in the system of files on my hard drive. When I try to move them in Lightroom, it says that they are already there.

If I try to sync my folders, get me into trouble as all my changes and metadata get deleted, because he seems to think that all my pictures are new. Lightroom seems to have a schizophrenic response to this:

All right, so he wants to delete about 18000 photos and add 20000, removing my metadata and changes. Large. Reading from another thread, it seems that this isn't the way to go, and I can just tell Lightroom to find my missing photos:

So, who's Lightroom?

How can I get my folders to synchronize, but not to lose all my work?

After a lot of frustration and searching, it seems as if my probem was that my file user on my old Macbook was "blair" (tiny b) and my new Macbook uses a more formal: Blair: with a capital b. I learned that Lightroom is case-sensitive, while my Mac OS is not. This is why when Lightroom asks MacOS to give it an image data, it appears despite the gap of the case. However, when he looks to see if the pictures are missing, they all appear absent because Lightroom resists less than "blair" and "Blair" is the same person. Somehow my catalog remind the old structure of directory (in lowercase) and confused trying to import new photos into the new structure.

He seemed to have solved my problem as follows:

  • Leaving Lightroom. Created a new folder in/Users/Blair called "bananas".
  • Moved all the content of "/ users/Blair/images" to "/ users/Blair/bananas."
  • Starting Lightroom. All the photos and records were presented as being absent. Right clicked on ' Users/blair/images' and 'location of folder update... "said and pointed to" / users/Blair/bananas. " All photos and relevant changes / metadata was found.
  • Leaving Lightroom. All left/Users/Blair/Bananas to/Users/Blair/Pictures
  • Started Lightroom, photos and files, missing once again, "location of folder update... "once again and he did to" / users/Blair/images ".

It wasn't how I wanted to spend half of my Saturday, but it works now.
