• Portege R700 internal to screen very dark but can use the external monitor

  Hi guys,.

  just had a question about my Toshiba Portege R700 as the screen went white and I couldn't see the screen or sometimes I could and it was very dark!

  However, the laptop could start up as normal and I could use it normally through an external display!

  Subsequently, I replaced the screen and it started working again (happy days)!
  However, a few weeks down the line the same problem again apparently did screen dies.

  I take off again and disconnect and reconnect the screen just to see if that would solve the problem and he did, back and working again. I even tried the old screen I swapped and that works too!
  So I paid £140 + for a new screen that I didn't need, my question is what is the problem?

  It is difficult to say what might be wrong here usually black screen can be related to a faulty FL inverter.
  But laptop computer s display supports a backlight Led FL inverter should not be a problem here

• Dell Latitude 10 ST2: Screen very dark after the Windows Update 8.1 & gameplay of Diablo 2

  I just got a new Latitude 10 ST2, and I really appreciated the help until after that I updated for Windows 8.1 and played some Diablo 2. For some reason, my brightness is now always very low, regardless of whether the Adaptive brightness in my power management setting is enabled or disabled. I can manually change the brightness, but it has very little effect. It seems that the maximum brightness is really low for a reason any.

  I don't know if Diablo 2 has nothing to do with this problem, but I though that I would include it here because it uses very outdated graphics techniques that seem not very compatible with Windows 8.1. I had to change the compatibility settings of the game executable for Windows XP Service Pack 2, force them to run with 16-bit colors and also to disable the composition of the bureau. After closing the game, icons on the desktop still seemed a little wide (they looked rather 16-bit color and had some weird artifacts) and I had to restart the tablet to correct. After the reboot of the Tablet, the desktop icons were back to normal, but my light issues began to arrive.

  My first attempt at solving this problem was in the shape of the tablet. I used my USB stick that has the factory settings on it to format the Tablet and reinstall Windows 8. The process was a success, and I had no problem of brightness either. However, after the update to Windows 8.1, then by restarting the Tablet, my issue with the brightness came back.

  My second attempt was to try to update my drivers. I ran the auto updater provided with the Tablet, and it updated my BIOS. Unfortunately, it has not fixed the problem at all. Then, I took a look in the BIOS and found levels of brightness in the video section. The parameters are the following:

  Brightness on battery: 7
  Brightness of AC: 15

  I've tried corresponding to the brightness of the battery at 15, but it has no effect. The light problems don't occur that the Tablet is connected to a power outlet or not, I wasn't really that surprised that it didn't work. A maximum brightness of 15 is normal? (what is a percentage?) I don't want to change these settings without knowing exactly what they represent to avoid damage.

  My third attempt has updated the chipset drivers which includes the video driver. I installed the chipset driver and suddenly after that the screen went black a few times during the installation of the brightness has been completely restored and colors looked nice and bright again. However, when I rebooted the Tablet I found that the problems of brightness was back. Very rarely when I restart the Tablet, the brightness is normal again, but it is super rare. A subsequent reboot simply results in brightness problems return immediately.

  A few other things worth noting that come with the light problems:
  -All color gradients are not smooth. You can very clearly see the differences in brightness when a picture goes to a light color to a dark like a lot of buttons in Windows 8 start menu. It reminds me a lot of 16-bit color;
  -Whenever I try to change the display settings in the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, nothing happens. No matter how much I fiddle with the brightness, contrast or gamma, nothing changes, even after you apply the settings.
  -Diagnostic in the BIOS tests said that everything is OK;
  -The complete diagnosis provided by the PC Dell Diagnostics program showed that each test passed successfully.

  I really hope that someone can help me with this problem. The screen is also very dark, it makes it quite difficult to use tablet. Thank you!

  Thanks for the reply! After much trial and error, I discovered that my graphics driver has been be corrupted by AVG 2014 somehow. After yet another format and reinstall of Windows 8, but without AVG 2014 this time, everything works great! : D

• Satellite L10 screen very dark after disassembly

  Hi all

  I took my Satellite L10 part to swap on the plastic dessu for a damaged joint.
  Now is superb, but something was wrong as the screen is not be enlightened now.

  Anyone have any suggestions what else could be?

  If I look at the screen to light, I can see the desktop, I bought a new UPS thinking that was the problem but it has not fixed it :(

  Maybe a second faulty inverter? I checked all connections etc...

  For me, this looks like the inverter issue.
  If you see the desktop and the image appears as behind a thick mist, then in most cases this problem is related to the inverter FL.

  I put t know if the inverter is faulty or if you have connected all the bad parts
  The two may be possible, and so I recommend you to speak with a local laptop technician.
  In your case, that the old parts must be checked first, before buying a new FL inverter, cable, etc.

• Unpredictable screen very dark

  I have an old Inspiron 6000 for 4 years and my screen keeps going dim.

  I read the other posts in the forum... the only difference with mine is that it is not systematically dim.

  Sometimes it starts fine but get Sun during the boot, sometimes it will start to dim or start fine and unexpectedly dim during use. It is absolutely not predictable.

  When it goes dim, I found that I can usually get the screen back 'on' or functioning normally close the lid of the laptop and the reopening. This does not always work the first or second time, but eventually it works.

  Because the screen is not always a problem, can someone tell me what is happening with my screen?

  As you have said that this problem could be linked to the failure of inverter FL and in most cases, the FL inverter needs to be replaced.
  It's a little bit complicated and it s not desirable to try to replace it to your own hand as this may damage the screen of laptop computers.
  This is why I would really recommend contacting a Toshiba ASP because of two important reasons:
  First reason is that you can order the ASP compatible FL inverter and the second reason is that an ASP could provide help how to replace this part.

  I agree with Tobi. You sounds description as a faulty FL inverter.
  This part is placed behind the LCD screen under the lid.
  As mentioned this part isn t very expensive and you could order the partner of Toshiba service in your country. But be aware that if you have no experience of replacement if you ask technicians for assistance.

  I agree with Tom, I would also say that there is something wrong with the Fl inverter or with the tube FL. well, is the only way to solve the problem is to replace the broken parts. In this case, you will need to contact Toshiba service in your country.

  My laptop screen (Satellite P200) is eventually died.
  He had been much flicker when opening the laptop but settle.

  The screen is very dark and you can see just the windows etc. I can't connect a second monitor and run from that.

  -Is the screen, backlight went?
  -I'm out of warranty, how long does it take for an extended warranty through? The site has offered me one for relief.

  First you will not get an extended warranty, if you haven't bought it.
  If you warranty is no longer valid, then you will have to pay for the repair.

  Now a few words about your question;
  I think that your FL inverter is dead. The problem described in job ads seems to be a fault of inverter FL. This small part controls the backlight of the screen and causes this problem.

  I recommend contacting the technician of laptop (certified partner) and I will ask the Fl inverter assessment and if necessary I would work out a replacement.

  This problem occurs while working and when starting computer, not always but now more often. Initial intact Toshiba screen, but then the screen goes very dark. See just the Windows icon but it's too dark to work on. Anyone know if it's fixable?

  One day I swithched turn it on and the LCD display seems negative like a photographic negative.
  It is very dark, but the colors are there just upside? I connected to an external monitor to the rear exit and it worked well.

  The backlight of the screen seems to be bright enough so I guess that it may need a replacement LCD screen.

  If you are a lucky man, you won't need to replace the LCD view screen but only the inverter FL. The screen is more expensive laptop parts and it would be very unfortunate if the LCD would malfunction.

  To me, it sounds like a fault of FL-inverter and this part is not very expensive.
  I guess to contact the technician to change this part if you have no experience.

  It looks like FL inverter problem.
  The FL Inverter control the backlight of the screen and if this tiny part does not work, the display looks like Misty.
  It seems that the Toshiba technician would need to replace this part.

• T61 screen becomes very dark

  I had this T61 for almost 6 years. Now, I turn on the laptop, the screen is very dark and nothing is displayed. But when I close the screen and open again, the screen starts to work with the color red on bottom. This will keep a few seconds, then it flashes and go dark again.   The backlight (CCFL) in your screen is on its last leg, the reddish color is a dead giveaway.

  Your T61 needs a new LCD.

• Had very dark laptop screen

  As the title suggests, the screen of my laptop suddenly comes very dark (I can barely see the outline of the stuff on the screen, but I can't ' read anything), and even after restarting a few times it's still dark. What can I do about it?
