Windows 7 on my iMac

Hello. I want to load Windows 7 on my iMac (intel-based). I have XP SP2 loaded on an old desk that is no longer in use, but it came preloaded without disc source.  I don't have any option other than to purchase a full version of W7 (to a HUGE $199!) to get a decent OS on my iMAC? Thank you.

A retail full version license would be the right way to go.

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

OEM licenses must be installed by professional system manufacturers. Under Microsoft's OEM license agreement, they should not be sold to end-users under any circumstances, must be preinstalled on a computer using the preinstallation OEM (OPK) before delivery to the customer and include to the at least the manufacturer contact information. They are, therefore, designed for installation only on a single computer and are not transferable, even if the original computer is no longer in use. This isn't usually a problem for users who buy a new computer, because systems that most pre-assembled systems ship with a preinstalled operating system. There are very few circumstances where Microsoft will allow the transfer of licensed OEM for a non-functional system to another, but the OEM System Builder License Agreement (SBLA), as well as the EULA (EULA) OEM contract don't contain any provision for this, it is entirely at the discretion of Microsoft, depending on the situation

http://www.Microsoft.com/OEM/en/licensing/sblicensing/pages/licensing_for_hobbyists.aspx

There are two types of OEM suppliers. Royalty OEM vendors can distribute Windows products by using the preinstallation (SLP) product keys so that end users can bypass product activations. All other OEM vendors distribute Windows products by using the standard product keys that require the user to activate Windows products.

  • Install Windows 7 on an iMac without Apple software

I have 'experimented' with the installation of Windows 7 on iMac (20-inch 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, IIRC) mother and managed to enter an insensitive State and I'm trying to understand why. In short, the objective here is to determine how to install Windows 7 on an iMac (starting with a blank hard drive).

A little history: MOM (and me) didn't like the Apple OS, so she was fortunately in Linux (CentOS 6) for a couple of years, but for various reasons, she now needs Windows. In the past, I installed Linux and Windows on anything and everything with a CPU, largely without major problems (so far). To clarify, install Linux was fine on this iMac, only Windows turns out to be difficult.

One thing that seems to cause me a lot of trouble, is that - as I understand it: it's hard / cannot access all the options start at low altitude on an iMac (for example usual UEFI / BIOS stuff). Is this correct, or am I missing something?

Another issue I have is that almost all the information that I find online made the assumption that the Apple OS is installed. This is clearly not the case for me - I've invested in Snow Leopard, a long time ago, but quickly decided it wasn't for me, erased the hard drive, installed CentOS and released the Snow Leopard installation media in the desert.

The question I'm stuck, is the Windows 7 Installer refuses to install on the hard disk. He creates with happiness and format a primary partition, but gives the following error:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Make sure that the drive controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.

If I could have access to all the low-level boot options, then maybe I could investigate this matter. Can anyone offer advice?

Here is the optimal solution to the problem: buy a Windows computer. They are cheap. A Mac with OS X installed can run Windows using Boot Camp Assistant for a system dual-boot. Only then do you get drivers Windows requires to be used with Apple hardware.

  • Failed Windows 7 install, 2008 iMac running 10.11.4: not found disk bootable

I'm having a lot of bad to install Windows 7 on an iMac of 2008 running the latest OS X El Capitan, 10.11.4. The exact procedure followed is based on this Apple Support document, with a few changes:

    https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT205016

The first change is to the Info.plist of Boot Camp, three changes to account for what is a former Mac:

    (1) adding a string version of the ROM of the Mac: < string > IM81.00C1.B00 < / string >

    (2) change < key > PreUSBBootSupportedModels < / key > < key > USBBootSupportedModels < / key >, i.e. delete "Pre".

    (3) addition of the string that identifies this Mac: < string > iMac8, 1 < / string >

Running Boot Camp Assistant again, I can then tick the three boxes available in select tasks, according to the screen shot in the article cited above.

WININSTALL flash player is created, a legitimate Windows 7 ISO 32-bit file.

The second amendment concerns points 8 to 11 of the article cited above, which mentions that the following files/folders should be added the flash player:

    $WinPEDriver$ (file)

    AutoUnattend.xml

    BootCamp (folder)

Supposedly the correct support for this iMac 2008 software is as follows, 4.0.4033...

    https://support.Apple.com/kb/DL1630?locale=en_US

... but after you download it and unzip, I'm not find the required files/folders.

If I dig around on this other page, looking for other Boot Camp downloads where these files/folders may be present:

    https://support.Apple.com/downloads/Bootcamp

Curiously, some of these downloads contain the three files/folders, and some do not. So I download the latest software from Boot Camp, 5.1.5722 support:

    https://support.Apple.com/kb/DL1836?viewlocale=en_US & local = en_US

I find all three files in this download and drag them to the flash drive. The entire list of files on the drive WININSTALL is now as follows:

I make new Boot Camp Assistant, i.e. the third box in the screen select tasks, the installation process.

The installation will stop when the Mac re-lance himself. The following message appears on the screen on a black background:

"No boot device - insert boot disk and press any key".

I tried this procedure several times and with different flash drives, with the same result.

Restart the Mac with the button shows 'alt' that the normal Mac hard disk is available for selection, but no Windows disk is present. If the same partition?

I'm puzzled. Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

Bootcamp Info.plist changes do not work on 2008 models, because there is no support to boot from USB MBR. You will need to burn the W7 ISO on a physical DVD and then use the last checkbox to install Windows. Keep the USB key to install the drivers for BC when finished.

The reason why you can't find the files in 4.0.4033 is $WinPEDriver because $ is loaded when the front boot from USB on specific models that take into boot USB. 2012 models supports USB or DVD connection facilities.

  • How to download Firefox for Windows XP on an iMac?

I just installed Windows XP on an iMac (which otherwise runs Mac OS 10.6.3). I want to download Firefox to run under XP on it, but of course, I have no software of navigation on this part of the machine, so I tried to download it through Firefox on my Mac OS System.

I have an iMac OS x Lion, Im trying to install Windows XP/vista or Windows 7 on my iMac using bootcamp or / or Parallels Desktop. Help please!

For iMac owners, it is recommended that you use a full version of Windows 7. Because the recent models of Mac does not support older versions of Windows like XP or Vista, you might be in a bit of a problem. Try the following and see if it works:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

Just to let you know, there is a difference between installation and activation.

You can install the software on as many computers as you wish, Mac or PC.

However, you can activate the software to be used on up to two computers at the same time (via help > connect / disconnect)

  • Impossible to install 10 Windows via BootCamp on iMac 5K with Fusion Drive

    Hello

I tried to install Windows 10 Professional via Boot Camp on my iMac 5K end of 2015 (version OS X 10.11) with a disc of the Fusion 2 to for about a week now. Right now I'm on my 4th or 5th try on Windows 10 installation on the iMac because each installation fails gives me an error that the drive is not formatted correctly or he couldn't find the score even though I have the selected in the list of available drives. I even went up to both to run the commands of the PART of the DISK from the command prompt in the area of troubleshooting Installer Windows 10 to format drive to NTFS instead of FAT32.

Here are some of the mistakes that I received:

1 Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. This space of hard disk is formatted with a version not support the NTFS file system.

    2. we could not create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup logs files.

I used the Boot Camp configuration application (version 6.0.1) to create a USB key after you download the image ISO from Microsoft. The USB flash drive that creates the installer will start the iMac, but I can't get past the screen "where do you want to install Windows? I tried the merge disk partitioning ways without success, beforehand, because I thought that it could cause a problem. He was left as a full drive 2 TB, or divide the flash part away and seen the almost 2 to rotation and the merger of 128 GB (flash) portion and lucky either.

I'm full of ideas on what to try... I have loaded Windows 7 Professional via Boot Camp several times and have never encountered a problem with Boot Camp with 10 Windows so far.

Workaround I found that worked for me was to install

Win7 Pro 64 bit.  Then created just the Bootcamp driver USB key

(no operating system installer).  Next I went to do the upgrade of Win10 of

in the environment of Win7.  FWIW, I also chose to not save

    anything (new installation).

You will need to keep the installation to make sure that you press the Option

key with multiple reboots (why Windows still insists on this)

and select the Windows volume to boot from.  Once all the nonsense restarts

were carried out and finally Windows was running, I plugged it in training camp

driver USB key, install hardware drivers and everything was good to go.

Now, it was on an old MacBook Pro, which does not officially have the Bootcamp

support for WIn10 if the material is quite capable.

  • lines while moving the window on 5 k IMac

    Hi all

I got a new iMac 27-inch 5 k, alls installed, but on some windows I get weerd lines all while moving.

On my (old) iMac 27-inch with the same OS (Caroline 10.11.6) I do not have that.

Not all windows look like that while on the move, some do, but others have not depending on the application.

Sometimes the lines persist and I need to go back to another window and to return to the normal display.

No idea what I can do about it?

Unfortunately, it seems that material. Under AppleCare, desktop computers have free on-site service, if you live within 50 miles of an Apple Store.

I have some photo CD produced and designed to run on Windows PC where windows 'Autorun' Star launches program to view photos.  The pictures are built into an executable file, but the individual. JPG image files do not appear to be clicked individually to be seen in the iMac forecasting program.  It is any option (s) that will allow me to see these discs or programs I can download in order to view records of photos like these on an iMac?

OS X won't work for MS Windows .exe files unless the Mac has Windows installed on it. If you are sure that the CD has jpg on it, then load it on a PC, extract the photos and save them to another CD or flash drive, and then import them into your photo on the Mac app.
