    Hi Marty,

Windows Vista backup files are in. Disc format hard virtual which is only supported in Vista. You would have to restore them on a computer that is running Windows Vista and then copy the contents of the Windows XP computer.

How can I identify the name of the invisible file for a backup file successfully to an external hard drive USB2 separate?  I use Windows Vista backup program (Service Pack 2), and I need to do backups plus two from other computers on the same external hard drive.  To do this, I think I would need to identify each backup file separate I know which file to specify if I need to do a restore.

How can I accomplish this? The program does not seem to give me the ability to specify a file to which to write the backup during a given session files.  In addition, I do not understand why I can not see the file name in Windows Explorer - my files options are defined to be able to view hidden and system.  Would be grateful for any help you can provide, tonight if possible.   Best regards, Oliver for Norm

  • Cannot get permission to access some files restored from a windows vista backup

Hello. I just installed windows 7 on a new hard drive. I bought the upgrade to windows 7 Home premium and I had to install vista on the new hard drive first then windows 7.

I have all my files backed up on an external hard drive and I used windows vista backup and restore to do.

I have now restored my files on my new hard drive using windows 7 backup and restore.

I see all my files and folders, but the thumbnails are missing and when I try to actually open a file, a message informs you that I don't have permission to access.

I tried to click with the right button on the files and changing the security, property, sharing and options, all to nothing does not.

I tried a few ways to restore my files too, but nothing works.

If I save a newly downloaded or created file (for example, a photo that I found on the internet) in the same folders, there is no problem and I can access, so the problem isn't that I don't have access to the records.

Another weird thing is that I can access some of the restored files, but no more than them. I can't think what it is on those I can access that should make them different from those that I can't.

So far it does not my simple PC! Can anyone help please?

I should add that I am the ONLY user of this computer, and it is not on a network. Previously, it was the same when I am running windows vista. This is why I'm the only person who should be able to access the files.

Same problem here after restoring a file backup of Windows Vista to a new installation of Windows 7. This solution worked for me: go to the command prompt, change the drive or a directory, you have problems with and type this:

    ICACLS * / reset/t

Edit: You need to start the command prompt as an administrator to do. Find it in the start menu, then right click and choose 'run as administrator '. Then use the command as shown above.

You are unable to make the back because you've done your backup file in drive D: that is your recovery Partition. You are NOT supposed to do.
Recovery partiton has a very small disk space, no time to fill up the partition.
    Read this...

Your recovery partition D is implemented by the manufacturer of your computer in the event of serious problems in your system.
You use it to restore your system.

You're NOT supposed to touch it... not to add or remove anything from or to it.

Have you been using the D drive for scheduled backups of file?
If this is the case, you call the manufacturer of the computer, tell them the situation...

    1. ask for a set of recovery DVD to reinstall Vista, if you do not have a game made yourself.
    2. ask how to remove backup files or elements that are NOT supposed to be there.
They created the recovery partition, they know how to take care of it.
Let them teach how you to.

  • error messages from Windows vista backup company

I just got a laptop with Vista Business replacement and no system disk.  I downloaded and installed all of the 200 + windows vista updates including Service pack 2.  Now I'm doing a system recovery on DVD disks before starting the arduous task of reinstalling all my programs and data files, but I keep receiving the error message 0 x 80780119 not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location... and storage 0x8004231F insufficient to create either storage copy shadow file or other shadow copy data.

Following the advice I found on another forum of Vista, I resized memory Ghost by using this command, vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage / For = C: / On = C: / MaxSize = 30 GB, who apparently has apparently solved this problem for others, but does not work for me.

I try next? Be explicit because I'm not very familiar with this flavor of operating system Windows.

  • Vista backup error: cannot run the RPC. (0x800706BE)

Hey there, I have a question about windows vista. I'm doing a backup of my system. In the end, I get an error saying: "cannot save settings to schedule automatic backup for the following reason: cannot run the CPP." (0x800706BE).

However, I don't want to schedule an automatic backup. I want to make a single backup. I tried to change this in windows Task Scheduler, but I can't because the WindowsBackup folder is not listed. Probably because there is no backups on demand. But I can't schedule backups since I get an error at the end. So the WindowsBackup folder does not appear and I can't change the settings. Someone knows how to fix this?

To be clear, I want to make one backup of my system.

When I go to services.msc and scroll down to the remote procedure call and watch 'Status' it says 'Started' or 'Released' (not sure since I have a Dutch version of Vista).

Also, windows backup is not calculating the number of necessary for the backup dvd.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    (a) you are exactly how trying to backup?

    (b) do you use the computer as an administrator?

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1: Disable the security software and check.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    If the problem persists,

Step 2: Try to run a check disk for errors by following the method from the link below:

Important: When running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area so all available data on this risk to be lost

  • Windows Vista backup on the external drive stopped working

I have a LaCie 750 GB hard drive external (total size 698 GB) who I've been saving my drive C and D to a Dell XPS 410 using Vista Home Premium software.  He contended until the end with a backup automated on-demand for once a week.  He performed the backup 30 times since 11/09/09, but sometimes did so sometimes (shorter range) other than the weekly on-demand.  When I compare the total size with the free space on the external drive and my drives C and D, the amount of used space is respectively 131 GB, 5,11 GB and GB 665,5.  I am not very computer savvy, but if the backup program backs up only what of new each time, why used on my external drive space is so superior to what is still on my C and D drive?  I assumed that the backup software would just copy the previous backup, each time that a new backup or write on the oldest backup, but apparently is not.  So now all I get are messages saying that the backup was not successful because a file was in use or something to that effect.  I'm doing something wrong or do I have to reformat the hard drive external when it is "full" to start the backup of my computer again?

    Hello

Your assumption is correct. Cross check if a new backup is created and saved in the external hard drive. If a new backup is not too write the old backup, the use of the space will be very high.

Two particularly useful automatic backup features are the ability to do a scheduled backup and the ability to save your files.
We recommend that you cross check if backup settings are intact. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. open backup and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.
    2. click on change settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

For more information on "back up and restore: frequently asked questions" visit this link:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-and-restore-frequently-asked-questions

You get the error message, unplug the external drive and restart the computer. Connect the hard drive and check if you get the error message.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

  • Windows Vista SP1 error: 0xc0190036 (kernel32.amx)

I tried to install SP1 on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, like, forever now.

He receives through steps 1 and 2 with no problems, then restarts the computer and begins to display all the registry files, etc., and then it freezes on:

    !! 0xc0190036! 4125/96829 (kernel32.amx)

I have the voltage to the computer, then it will automatically load the Startup Repair.  In general I just do a system restore and live with all other errors (browser crashes, program freezes and incompatabilities, etc.) who accompany him not not upgrade, but now I really want to get this resolved.

I kernel32.amx in C:\Windows\System32\manifeststore and tried to replace, rename, or delete, but I get an error message saying that I need permission to do so (even if I am logged in as the only administrator on this model). It is not read-only. I can't find it in the processes running in the Task Manager.  I am not even sure, however, if I look at the right file (are there other files named kernel32.amx?).

I restarted Windows Mode without failure, but it's the same thing.  When I tried to reinstall SP1 & got the same error, I launched the Startup Repair and chose to not not to do a system restore immediately.  It generated the report to Microsoft:

Problem event name: Startup Repair V2
Signature of the problem 01: Auto failover
Signature of the problem 02: 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6001.18000

    Signature of the 10:10 problem
    OS version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

I clicked on "View diagnostic and repair details" and he showed several tests that have been carried out; most were successful, but a few lines in this report seems relevant:

Root cause found: a patch prevents the system to start
Repair action: repair and checking the integrity of system files
Result: failed. Error code = 0xa

I went to the Advanced System Recovery Options, but apparently I'm not that advanced. I ran Windows memory diagnostic tool (which found no errors, but also does not generate a report), then re-run Startup Repair, which has generated a new report to be submitted to the slightly different Microsoft:

Problem event name: Startup Repair V2
Signature of the problem 01: Auto failover

Finally I just did a system restore to the last restore point. It is here where I am now. Any ideas?  I'm looking in the right places?

    Hi Didigrn,

You got the error message indicates that kernel32.amx is damaged and there is one possibility of other files system is corrupted as well. All what we need to do is to rename the DLLs corrupted, restart the computer and let start the computer normally to complete the installation. Follow these steps to rename the corrupted dll file.
    (1) Insert the windows vista dvd and boot from the dvd.
    (2) select repair your computer.
    3) click on command prompt.
Type the following commands and press ENTER after each line
    C:
    CD windows
    CD system32
    Ren kernel32.amx kernel32.amx.old
    (4) output of command line.
    (5) restart the computer and boot up normally.

If you GET the black screen with a similar error and another file (except kernel32.amx), take note of the dll file, repeat steps 1 to 5 and type the name of the file in step 3.

Restart the computer. It may take a while and you will be asked to connect to the desktop computer.

Check in system properties if SP1 is installed or not.

I hope this works. If you still have problem please after return.
