    Hi all.

Had a Sony Vaio with Vista Home Premium. It's worked well, but the other week, he dropped and since then it won't start.

Got a local PC shop to recover files as much as possible, but he said there's a new hard drive, then reinstall windows - £100 thank you very much.

I decided to take a ride and see if I could do it cheaper.

I can source a hard drive, but I never had a Vista CD with the laptop - I have the cost on the bottom of the laptop.

Where can I get a copy of Vista and how do I know if the COA made refers to 32-bit or 64-bit.

    Thank you

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

  • I want to reinstall Windows Vista, but I do not have a disk when I bought the laptop; I don't have product key, however; What should I do?

My old laptop is now very slow performance, no doubt because it is hopelessly cluttered with unwanted stuff, viruses etc.. So I have tried various methods of cleaning without success, I decided to reformat (all data on it has been transferred to a new laptop) and start from scratch by reinstalling Windows Vista Home (installed when I bought it). But no installation disc has been delivered, although the product no key. is located on the underside of the laptop. What should I do? I could ring you, but I don't have a land line, and a long call on my cell phone would probably cost a fortune. It would be great if you were ringing me to talk me through the process (07760 101610)

    Hello

Sorry, this is not Microsoft and we don't do phone calls that we are for the most part, Windows users help each other here...

Here are the different ways that you can reinstall Vista.

See which is more easy for you.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

  • Windows Vista - default printer does not have a default

    From: Freddie Kang

I have implemented several printers and have an assigned as the "default" printer network printer I noticed that this status of 'default' for this printer does not remain so after I stop and restart. It seems to default to the fax printer. I then have to reset the printer selected as 'default' to be able to print. This not happens whenever I stop - sometimes, the default printer is as default.

Someone at - it similar experiences? Solution to the problem?

    Thank you.

    Best regards, S.F. Kang

    From: Cari (MS - MVP)

It will default to the first he concluded after opening session, so in your case, I think the connection to the network is taken longer, that so he finds the fax first.

  • Windows Vista crashes and would not start

    Original title: Vista crashes

I have a Toshiba Satellite that came with Windows XP pre-installed. After a year of work well, it crashed and wouldn't start up. I used the disc that came with the laptop to repair the utility startup without success. I ended up reinstalling the entire OS so delete all.

However, it turned out that the operating system that was on the disk was not XP, but actually Vista for businesses. Of course, being Vista, my computer barely working and crashes whenever I use it. In addition, because it's a different OS from what I originally bought my license is invalid and I constantly reminds me that.

My questions are: can I upgrade the original Windows XP operating system, using the original validation key? or if I want to upgrade to Windows 7, I'll be able to because my current license is not valid?

    Hello

    1. what error message you get on the license?

    2. What is the error you get when the computer crashes?

    3. do you have the genuine product key of Windows Vista or Windows XP?

You can buy the new product key for Windows 7. If you upgrade to Windows 7, you will get the product key when you purchase Windows 7 operating system.

If you want to install Windows XP, then this will be a downgrade from Windows Vista and if you install Windows 7 then you can try the steps in the following Microsoft articles.

    Hello

any body can help me?  I forgot my password to my windows 7.  I have not created a password reset disk!  Is there something else I could do?

What to do if you forget your Windows password

If you have forgotten your Windows password and you are on a domain, you must contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you are not on a domain, you can reset your password by using a reset disk of password or by using an administrator account. For more information, see create a password reset disk or reset your Windows password.

If you forget the administrator password, and you do not have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you will not be able to reset the password. If there is no other user account on the computer, you will not be able to connect to Windows and you will need to re - install Windows.
