XP does not not after update

My laptop has stopped working properly after the recent update installation of XP.  He froze at the Welcome screen.  I did system restore, but this did not help.  I tried to run the disk check, however, the computer crashes just when I try to do.  I tried to repair windows from my XP CD.  But it says it cannot be done and restarts the computer: now I get a message that the system file is missing or damaged.  I was running an AVG update version and everything was fine until this XP update.  Any suggestions?

When you say that it froze, did you use the power button, unplug the unit, remove the battery to thaw it?

If Yes, which can cause corruption in the filesystem NT (NTFS) and then your system will display these types of messages when restarting following since XP will not be able to find the file to load.  First, you must be sure that your file system is intact.

But you tried a lot... system restore, tried to run chkdsk, tried to repair then who knows what condition things are now.

As you run an application antivirus/antimalware that begins with the letter 'A' (Avira, Avast, AVG,...), it could also be that after applying the updates, if the AV software was obsolete with definitions, he may not have recognized the new update of files, considered a threat to the new files and quarantined (effectively deleted) some critical XP system files that came with the update.

The first thing to do would be to tell us about your system, and then start in the XP Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r to make sure that your file system is not afflicted.

If you aren't 100% sure that you have a genuine XP bootable installation CD, I suggest make you a CD bootable Recovery Console (no XP media required) and use it.  You don't want to use any kind of system restore CD that may have come with your system.  If you are not 100% sure what you have, make a CD of RC and be 100% sure what you have.

Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Your system have IDE or SATA disks?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do.  Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

xp_rec_con. ISO

Download the ISO from here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

http://www.ImgBurn.com/

When you install ImgBurn, DO NOT install the Ask toolbar.

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

    Hello

I upgraded Windows 8.1 Windows 8.  Before updating the finger print reader worked. I used it to connect to websites in any browser Firefox. I also logged into windows with my fingerprint reader and the screen unlocked the same way.

I have updated all the drivers according to the instructions on updatig before windows 8.1 and after update.  I checked that everything compatible with windows 8.1 again by the instructions before putting up-to-date.

After that update the drive light will not read the finger scan and the light does not illuminate. I went to the control panel to check the driver and he was later. I ran the windows driver verifier and on the HP site checked for validity sensor driver is up-to-date.  When I open simple passage it says congratulations you can connect in the window by the touch of the finger. When I go on Internet sites I have red cells connected with simle pass, he now seeks to connect with the password "master."

    BattleAngelita,

    Welcome to the HP Forum.

Does the SimplePass asks your for your master password Windows means that the program has survived the process of upgrading to Windows 8, 1 - somehow.

You can start with the following:

    • Close all your programs and shut down your computer

      • Unplug everything (little unifying for the keyboard / mouse external can stay)
      • Perform the Hard Reset for your laptop
      • Start the computer and connect
    • Check is SimplePass himself has sorted them.

    ==========================================================================

You can try to update your SimplePass program to the latest version in the series of version 6.x.

Before you do this, read and follow the instructions to export your Webcards in your .tsd file.  Regardless of whether the Web site connections are working right now; you need this backup in case you lose your HP SimplePass program (thanks to the complete removal / reinstallation or if corruption).

Then, consider updating the HP SimplePass program to the latest version 6 series.  If you are already using the latest version, consider other options in the guide, including the "Repair SimplePass" procedure.

Open the file > click Download > click 'open in Adobe Reader.

After a recent update on my Windows 7, no webcams work longer. Locate the can´t system, as are they connected werenâ´t.

I have can´t reinstall the device drivers, because I have a Microsoft LifeCam VX-500, and its pilots are supposed to be a native component of Windows 7. I also tried with other devices, and none of them does not work either.

You can always reinstall drivers even if they are native in Windows. Go to control panel and open the Device Manager. Look down the list of all references to your webcam (video, microphone, etc.). They may appear with a yellow! mark indicating there is a problem with the driver, or they might not. If none does everyone try to enable 'Show hidden devices' in the view menu. For each entry in webcam that you find, right-click on it, select properties then driver. Click on the button that says "roll back driver". The earlier work driver should then re - install.

If the Roll Back driver option is disabled which means there is no new driver installed. You can always reinstall the driver however. Right-click on each entry in webcam and select uninstall driver. When it is unplug your webcam. Reset is optional, if not plug your webcam into even once (in a port on the computer NOT to a hub) and Windows should re - detect and install the drivers again.

In case it was an update of the driver who caused your problem when you rolled back each of the webcam drivers and tested the camera working again, go to Windows Update and look for the updates. The problem with the driver should appear again. From the screen to view updates (the one with the details on upgrades), right-click on the update of the webcam driver and select "hide update". After that it shouldn't bother you again.

  • Fullsceen Slideshow works does not after update (2015.2)

    Hi-

Since the upgrade to the latest version, I note that the slideshow widget full screen does not work. He works within the Muse app (although that it crashed Muse sometimes when using), and although it will display with the built-in preview of Muse, as soon as you try to make an overview of the slideshow browser does not at all, it's all white.

To make sure that it wasn't a problem in conflict elsewhere on my site, I tried to create a new site of the Muse and the only thing that I add to the page is a slideshow full screen and leave all the default settings (photo galleries and everything) and still nothing loads at all except for the next/previous/counter options.

    Hi BLSMagazine,

As I suggested above, have you tried to view your site on another browser?

  • Pavilion G6 2342dx, Wifi works does not after update driver recommended

Hello. I have Pavilion G6 2342dx running Windows 8. Yesterday, I used HP support assistant to perform some recommended driver updates. Among the things to day was the device of Qualcomm Atheros Wifi driver and the driver of HP wireless button. Peripheral installed WIFI was 10... 222, 10... 212.

After the update, my laptop cannot detect any wifi network. This shows simply 'no detected networks.' I also noticed that the light on the button wifi (F12) is always white If yes or no I activate flight mode or not. I get a message on the screen of property on the change in status of airplane mode. However, it doesn't seem to be actually toggle the wifi because of the sidebar, it looks like wifi is on but with the message "no media detected" persistent. In addition, wifi on the status bar icon is grayed out with a red x.

I tried deactivating and activating the adapter without success. I tried to download and reinstall the driver (10... 212) with no luck. I even tried to disable, uninstall and then reinstall the device in Device Manager. System restore fails whenever I have it try. Interestingly, the last driver on the HP support Web site is the 212, no mention of the 222 pilot.

Everyone has experienced the same? I would really appreaciate help on what I am completely stuck.

    Hi @futoji,

Thanks for all the help. I finally resorted when you run the upgrade to Windows 8.1 and that seemed to take care of the problem.

  • iMessage works does not after updating iOS 9.2

My wife has an iPad Mini 4 (Wi - Fi only), and since the iOS installed 9.2 update, she could not use iMessage. It has an Android phone, but use iMessage on his iPad to text me on my iPhone.

Going to settings > Messages and turn off iMessage worked. We read that a possible fix was to try this, reboot the device and turn iMessage on IT. Well, iMessage cannot be turned on ('switch' is not in the on position). Go to the home screen Messages shows a dialog asking for the activation of FaceTime. She puts his user name and password, and it hangs on. Finally, it returns a message that I don't remember everything now (without the unit in front of me), but something along the lines of FaceTime cannot be enabled at this time. Keep in mind, this is when in the Messages, she has not selected FaceTime.

If anyone else has experienced this?

FaceTime & iMessage must be active.

  • Volume works does not after update

I got a Sansa Clip + for a few years now and that you have never successfully updated the firmware.  A few weeks ago, I did.  Since then my volume isn't all set.  I tried to download the older versions, I can find no change in the result.  Any suggestions?

I've never seen another example here of a disabling buttons firmware update. And if you have tried other firmware and formatted, you erased all traces of what might make the processor fool you.

Since you have had for years, it may be something mechanical is exhausting, and it happened to coincide with the update of the firmware.  But it is a strange coincidence.

You could post your problem to AnythingButIpod, where a different crowd tinker more tuners with mp3 players.

It seems that you're fairly computer-savvy. If you feel geeky and experimental, you could install the firmware Rockbox alternative to www.rockbox.org, which is any other operating system made by dedicated open source DIY. Follow carefully the installation instructions you will be able to uninstall it without problem.   If the buttons don't always work with Rockbox, I guess it's just worn out.
