Xperia Arc ICS 4.0 review (flashing Post)

Hi guys,.

I'm tired of waiting my if to add to the list, so I went ahead and flashed my handset with ICS, following the instructions on the forum here.

1 installation.

It's no more difficult to use PC Companion for a regular update. And seeing that this is the case, I don't see why Global firmware is not given to everyone when it is ready, which could then be updated once as regional firmware is available. If I knew it was so simple, I would have flashed months ago. All this waiting around accreditation only serves to bananas users in car!

2 use.

I find is incredibly pleasant and certainly an improvement on the 2.3.4. -One thing I will say is that 4.0 left navigation right through the home pages, is not better or worse than 2.3.4 - it is certainly not uber-slick and can be jerky, it usually settles after a while. Using the default Android browser, the browser seems to take a while to start loading a Web page. Probably some irrational Google Analytics without doubt...

3 appearance.

Certainly cleaner, crisper, the font size is much nicer. Transition window much nicer, more on this topic below in "pros."

4 pros.

* Gmail is a massive improvement.

* Widget Gmail also.

* Browser widget is amazing.

* Developer tools allows you to add a transition effect to your UI, determinable, in seconds, that passes under silence no lag and even if it slows down how you use the phone, makes it more clean, more smooth and less jerky.

* Menu process running is a dream to use.

* Greatly improved the notification bar.

* Selector widget is excellent.

* More available RAM. 2.3.4 I've been consistenly about 60 to 120 MB of free space. On 4.0 I'm consistenly 90 MB and 175 MB of free space (now I've got 154 MB of free space).

* Switch off with 4.0 arrives almost instantly. Used to take around 30 seconds on the 2.3.4.

* Copy & sticky has been GREATLY improved. I can only emphasise this point.

5 jerks.

* Youtube widget app not as useful as before.

* To access the device lock screen picture can be done using the left to the right slider - it can be done using model recognisation. Huge disappointment, like the latch release provides no security, and made recognition of forms. So by opting for better security, I can't use this feature. Boring.

* The music player controls only come once you use the music player to the lock screen. I installed the new music player "S Xperia", I also use Deezer and controls do not come through the lock screen. Once again, huge disappointment, on something so simple.

* On other applications of 'Xperia S' I installed it, does not have the weather widget (extendable). Favorite contacts does not work. The improved application of "clock / alarm" does not work.

* No Favorite Contacts widget. Favorite then the contacts in the contacts section is very useful, is not be able to take the top 12 in a widget is pretty boring.

Take Screenshots has become a pain. It is used to be a simple - hold down the power button, press "screenshot" - now, you must hold down the power & volume, which will only force you to lock your screen & cut your phone several times before you are able to take a screenshot.

* No face unlock because Sony Ericsson forgot to put a front facing camera on the bow. Idiots.

* Stock Facebook app is poor, is running slowly, the police is huge, sometimes does not see the internet. I do not use this app, because it puts 30 MB of data on your memory for no reason, when the version of the browser has all the features you might need.

6 autonomy

ICS appears to be identical to 2.3.4 with respect to the life of the battery. On comparable use, they last the same amount of time. WiFi & Bluetooth on all day, listen to music and surf the net, full use, I got 8/9 hours. Identical to preflashing.

7 round;

Overall, I find 4.0 to be a slight improvement on 2.3.4 Although I am very happy with it. It does not much more, and if you want to use the best music players & a lockscreen more secure, then you immediately preventing access to 2 new useful features.

There are benefits and disadvantages above, nothing too surprising, nothing too harmful, but a solid, general improvement.

  • State Xperia Arc & data traffic Widgets switch becomes defective after update to ICS 4.1.B.0.587

    Hello to the team at Sony,

    I want to just give some food for my Xperia Arc last updated version ICS 4.1.B.0.587.

    After the update, as soon as the phone have been activated, if I can go in a screen or an application which requires me to turn the phone on side view landscape, subsequently, switch State and data traffic Widgets becomes elongated. (see attached photo)

    That is the only question I've experienced so far.  I used the switch Statue many turn on / off WiFi and Bluetooth.  I would just point out the issue and hoping that Sony came to suggest a fix sometime soon.

    Thank you for reading this message.

    do not repair your phone by the CCP. Before that, you can try repair by closing the home app.

    Go to settings > applications > | all of the apps | Search Xperia - Home > tap and close. Click on the home button and the Launcher will be charging. See if that helps.

    Otherwise go to applications > xperia-home again and erase the data.

    If that didn't help then repair your phone by the CCP.

  • Updated to 4.1.B.0.587 for Xperia Arc (Philippines)

    The NEW update

    The previous update

    One thing is much changed: INCREDIBLY FAST ICS EXPERIENCE! (Even with the Bloatwares!)

    After weeks of work with the new firmware.587, it's that some of what I've noticed lately.

    1. When you use an application that is designated to be in the landscape, Launcher Home sometimes buggy, it displays a black screen with notifications on top. Once also seems when I got home, my pitcher has got to be in the landscape, which is weird.

    Which is irritating, it's that you've closed all your apps, and always, host is configured to be on a black screen, untouchable, during a rotation in the landscape. PHONE MUST RESTART to get all things right again.

    2 LED Notifications SOMETIMES works, but is NOT all THE TIME. I noticed when looking for whenever he goes to light when there is a new SMS or harmful, it will light.

    3. battery management seems very good with the new firmware, as I noticed.

    What's new dans.587 firmware here:

    1. LED of Notifications are working for new messages, new messages, missed calls and 3rd party applications.
    2. Incredibly fast Home Launcher, without the lag.
    3. Integration of Facebook for the Xperia is changed with 'Sony-integration of Facebook', nothing has changed except the name.
    4. No lags for recording HD video, even with the Image Stabilizer on (unfortunately, still monophonic audio)
    5. Movies Blu - Ray (720 p HD video, audio 5.1 ch) are now playable without offset (tried using MX Player)
    6. Dialer opens now in 1-2 seconds only, as well as the Smart Dialer feature now works without lag and sound errors.
    7. Contacts are now available more quickly when choosing recipients for SMS.
  • Direct root for Xperia Ray ICS 4.1.B.0.431

    Hi im using the Xperia Ray and recently Ive upgraded to ICS 4.1.B.0.431 via PC Companion.I want to root my phone n tried to use the DooMLoRD method to the root of the firmware, but I failed. Is there a way to root my phone directly without having to use new stock rom to root it because Im afraid of losing all my apps n settings in my phone currently. I want to use Titanium Backup to make a backup of them, but given that my phone is not rooted so I can't use it.
    Thank you

    You can not root directly at the present time

    Follow how to root 4.0.4 here

    You just need to change a core root and then again back to the roigianl kernel

  • P Xperia with ICS update battery life

    My xperia P has been upgrade ICS a few weeks ago (battery already has enough time to "good standing") and ive noticed that when I check the use of the battery for 100 60 + is used by the screen alone? Even if I disable adapt to lighting conditions and is at the lowest brightness? Is there any solution for this? Or is this normal on ICS update? Long on screen is 2 hours 43 minutes. Its battery on for nearly seven hours.

    It is the normal battery usage.

    antivirus or taskillers could be the culprit
