  I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, which has a Windows 7 sticker alongside Intel inside the thumbnail but no sticker code product key on the underside of the machine.

  I used Belarc Advisor to extract the Windows 7 code

  I formatted the hard drive and then install a new copy of Windows 7 Home Premium (x 64) SP1

  When I try to manually activate Windows it says;

  There is no option to activate by phone

  I ran the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (see below)

  The product key that BelArc concludes on licensed OEM machines (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.) is not adapted to the re-installation.

  I received this error for the 3rd time.  A balloon appears and tells me that I need to activate windows due to a hardware change.  The computer that the copy of windows is currently installed is a home built with an oem version of windows 7 Professional 64-bit machine.  Initial activation went well without any problems.  2nd activation was due to having a "physical" display, but it allowed me to activate via the internet.  3. I had to call the number to receive an activation number.  The problem is that the computer is exactly the same, as it was the first day I turned it on.  I've updated anything, nothing, replaced and did not really have to do something for her.  Do I Plug and unplug devices, but no material change at all.  Any suggestions on how I could fix this?

  I tried to install these 'important' updates several times with the same result - updates failed, error 800b0100 code. I downloaded and installed the KB974821 tool - tells me it installed - same problem. (I don't know if I'm supposed to do something else with KB974821 - I have to "run" or just "installed" it enough?) Instructions could certainly be clearer)

  I tried to download and install the updates manually - without success - I get various error messages, like "does not apply to your system" or "for a different hardware platform.

  I tried this with my firewall/antivirus close as well - using Trend Micro - and still no luck.

  I use an Asus laptop and have used the Asus recovery cd.
  I just replaced the old HD (500 gb) as it failed with a 750 GB HD.

  you use an OEM SLP key that works only when the OEM recovery media is used. It can be activated by normal means.

  You need to change your product key to the one on your COA.
  Click Start, type slui 3, press on enter.

  Computers, which are built by large manufacturers provided with pre-installed Windows are supplied with 2 two product keys:

  (A) OEM SLP: this key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. (that's why you had no need to turn on your computer after you brought it home)
