  • Unable to do Windows Update - error code: 800700 1

Impossible updates updates window for some time.   Was not too concerned until I wanted to load a software application when it refused to load indicated he could not because of a damaged component and set the 1 800700 error code

Is there any solution for this?   I know that this means that it is a corrupted file.    I have a scanner via CMD and confirmed that smipi.dll in either:

    C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-Windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_07289f4cca5f6990 or

The smipi.dll in the second folder is empty, it is not all the data, but the scan he mentioned.

Is there any solution for this?

Note: I don't have a CD of Installation of Vista, the computer did not come with one.   I have a Dell Inspiron 1720.

Compatible with Vista but ending in two weeks from tomorrow, I assume that assistance technicians are overwhelmed right now. Be patient.

    Or you could always...

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

4 steps to help protect your new computer before going online
         http://www.Microsoft.com/security/pypc.aspx

Tip: After getting the computer fully patched, download/install KB971029 manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971029

NB: The free trial Norton which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the removal tool Norton before installing updates, Windows Service Packs or IE updates and before installing your new anti-virus application.

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

    Good luck!

    a. is it a problem with all the updates that you try to install or all updates?

    Method 1.
If your computer is experiencing problems find and install updates of the operating system, try using the troubleshooting Windows Update tool to solve the problem. He makes sure your computer is connected to the Internet and checks to see if your network card and Windows Update services are running properly.
