• 5.5: unable to select Tools or options in the panels

  Just installed Indesign 5.5 (after years of use of the previous versions, but still an 'intermediate' user). All panels (Pages, layers, races, etc.) will be open, but they are useless.   I tried for awhile now to set up a Control Board.  I can connect to my remote panel of computers from other computers on my local network but nowhere else.

  Whenever I use web publishing tool gives me a URL in this format: Http://Computer-Name.Corporate-Name.local:8086 / VI - nom.html apparently it means I have a local DNS server and this URL is meaningless to the public.

  I did an exploration of the possibilities, and I can't find a situation where access to the part of Master Pages from the Pages panel is completely lost. The separator between sections of pages, Master Pages and document is drag-able, but even by slide it upwards or downwards is not completely hide the masters... at least in my control panel.

  So, the strangeness you encounter is exactly the kind of strangeness that lightens in general with a reset of the preferences. This at least is the first thing you should try if you have not already.

  Yes.  I find it easier to type text, and then use the move tool (shortcut V) (looks like an arrow) to place it where you want.

  To bring up the character and paragraph panels go to WINDOW > CHARACTER or WINDOW > PARAGRAPH.

  Looks like your Panel has not been locked.

  Can click you on "Essentials" (workspace pulldown) of the upper right of your screen > Reset "Essentials" to see if it snaps the panels into place?

  Because your tools Panel seems to be anchored and intact with your main frame of the application.
