  Hi my father fell fault in the crooks of the phone and his laptop computer was locked to start upward.

  After pressing the power he gets a black screen and a blue box asking for a password (I guess that it is a Bios password as it is almost immediately after power on...) Windows is not loaded).

  I tried to remove the CMOS battery and the problem persists.

  Anyone out there know how to work around this problem, or totally reset the Bios to work around / reset the password?

  I had recently bought a new HARD drive because of problems in the previous, then the HDD have nothing in it. But when I thought everything was fixed, I discovered a new problem.
  Whenever I turn on the computer a try to access the boot priority to choose the CD-ROM drive (F12) so I can install the system, nothing happens.
  I've tried different combinations, C (on CD-ROM), DEL, F2, F1,... nothing happens.
  There is however a weird thing: if I disable (OFF), and then ON again, with ESC key, the LCD screen ask password. I don't even know if I never put a password... I tried a lot of letters and words, and 'x' works; a message appears: press [F1] key for the default setting, I press F1 and the system runs until she reach the HARD drive:
  Insert system disk in drive
  Press any key when ready...
  pressing on, repeating the message

  If I turn on the computer without using the Esc and use Esc when the TOSHIBA logo appears, do not ask for password, just for the message: press [F1] key for the default setting
  and while loop...

  The new HARD drive, it is a HITACHI 160 GB and I know the problem is not from the disk

  I already did a search and I think its something in the BIOS, but I don't know about you.

  I don't think that the 5100 has a BIOS screen. All you can do is to reset the default values.

  If its say "Insert system disk", it means that the operating system has not been installed, or there is a problem with the boot sector.

  I don't know what the maximum size of HARD drive is for the 5100, but 160GB may be too big. It may be limited to the limitation of LBA48 128 GB (http://www.48bitlba.com).

  In any case, hold 'C' for the POST should get it to boot from the CD. Unless the CD-ROM drive is defective.

  Your laptop is to produce a code hexadecimal halt which is stored in the ram as a 'one stop' and is recalculated after a reboot.  This indicates that you have a FRIEND bios later and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work - surprisingly, you can always remove power on password of the machine by removing the cell RTC (leave the connected Power Board) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before reinserting the RTC.

  The bad news is that the RTC may be on the 'wrong' side of the system board, so it will take some disassembly.

  I am 55 of the Thinkpad x140e deployment in a school, and I want to be able to lock the BIOS so that students will not be able to boot from other devices or other changes in the BIOS. I wonder if anyone knows of an app that allows me to lock the BIOS without having to do it manually on each machine. I'm their imagery with the same picture, so if there is an application that can be put on the image beforehand, it would be ideal. Someone at - it run in a similar situation or you know any solution?

  The X140e is not listed as a model of care, but it might be worth trying anyway.

  How you deploy the image? If you use something like MDT or SCCM, you would create a task that runs the script as part of the imaging process.

• Portege 2000 BIOS passoword is necessary

  I was handed a Portege 2000 to take a look at. As soon as I turn it on I see the Toshiba logo that immediately followed by a black screen that says only "password =".
  I tried looking for answers, but came away empty-handed.

  It seems that the laptop is locked with BIOS password.
  You need the password in order to start the machine.
  If you n t know the password, you will need to contact a local technician of ASP (authorized service provider) who would be able to remove this unknown password.

  The clr pswd did not work is because the instructions you have seen are incomplete/incorrect.

  I have rewritten them below, and that should take care of the problem...

  To clear the password BIOS follow these steps:

• Password BIOS, user still can set HARD drive password

  I have laptop computers at school that should be locked so that students can't change anything as to lock the hard drive.

  When you set the BIOS password it has the ability to set a password for the 'controller' and 'user '.
  I put a BIOS password under supervisor and I did not have one for the user as if I, students will not be able to pass through without putting a BIOS password.

  After you set the password, you are still able to get to the BIOS by pressing F11 in the BIOS option to get the option of limited menu BIOS. Students have the option to lock the hard disk, even if the BIOS password is set.

  I updated the BIOS later and who has not solved this problem.

  The BIOS supervisor password protects the BIOS settings.
  If the BIOS password would be fixed, the laptop could not be started without this password.
