  I have a Dell Inspiron Mini running on Windows XP, that I dropped and broke a plastic wedge.  The broken plastic cut a wire to the screen, leaving me with a white screen.  I was able to use the fn 1 toggle to turn on a second monitor via a HDMI cable.  However, I decided that the blank white screen bothers my eyes, I went into the display settings and select 'make this my main screen' which means, do my main screen TV.  However, he turned off the TV screen instead of the empty white laptop screen.  The Fn 1 button no longer works.  I tried to do a manual telephone walkthough with Dell system restore.  By restoring the computer to its factory settings, I should allowed to use the Fn 1 button again to turn on my TV via HDMI cable - without success.  Therefore, Dell confirmed that I had a software internal problem and recommended that I post him for repair (no guarantee).  The Dell Inspiron Mini has no CD Rom internal drive, however, I have the original disks supplied with the notebook software program which is five years (or more).  The Dell Inspiron Mini operating system is Windows XP.

  Now, I have a laptop HP large format, with CD Rom drive, running on Windows 7.   Can I use my HP CD Rom to install the original records of the original Dell Inspiron mini Dell program?  Thank you.

  my friend () has fallen from a laptop and border around display of cracked plastic. Even if the continuous computer work without problem, the aesthetic aspect is it bothers. The laptop is still under warranty, but I doubt that the repair can be done for free.

• Re: Exchange of video card in Satellite P25

  Recently, I brought my Satellite P25 computer at best buy because the monitor showed green squares distributed across the entire screen. They said it was my video card and went on to say that I would need to buy a new computer because of the integration of the video card and the motherboard.

  I know that this computer is pretty old (by the standards of the computer) its 5 years, but I paid 3 grand for it. Does anyone know an alternative in addition to come out and be forced to buy another computer? Best Buy has added, all new Vista computer on it and its not backward compatible with my programs that run on XP.

  I agree with Akuma. I saw often defective P20/P25 on eBay. People sell it because of the broken plastic or defective screen but the motherboard is Ok. I recommend checking out eBay from time to time and with a little luck, you'll find something for you.

  For this model of laptop, it is quite complicated because the STRANGE is from both sides. First you must remove the small screw placed in the Middle near the coverage of memory in the lower corner of your laptop (also near the cooling rack). The STRANGE is also secured with small hook placed under the keyboard.

  At the right place of this small hook is not known but I know that it is placed somewhere under the keyboard. I don't really know what you need to do. Have you already tried to remove the keyboard?

  I have to be honest and it's not so easy to give instructions here because I don't know if you're familiar with the disassembly. I don't want damage you something on your laptop. Small error can ends with a broken plastic cover. Please be careful.

  Had this laptop for free because he was constantly overheating and blue screening and the keyboard didn't work. Bought the new keyboard and fixed overheating by a cleaning in depth and the new thermal paste to the heat sink. Then, I decided to update as much as I can and use it to make music.

  The BIOS are very old, F.06. I was told that I should update the BIOS, because the most recent BIOS also included fixes for overheating, among other things. Unfortunately, I was told also that you need the operating system is Vista or BIOS update program "brick" laptop.

  I got what I thought, it was the ingenious idea to use my old hard drive, install Vista on it (came to me with Win7 too), update the BIOS, and then replace the new HDD with Win7 in. Trying to install Vista on my old hard drive, the installation routine says impossible to find the hard drive, and I need to install drivers to "see" the hard drive.

  I don't know exactly what I need. I tried several AMD AHCI drivers, but I have not found the good, or I need somethng totally different AMD AHCI drivers.

  I guess I have two questions.

  1. is it possible to update of the BIOS under Win7, without having to try to do it on another hard drive with Vista?

  2. If Vista will be used, what exactly I need / have to do to get Vista to recognize my original hard drive?

  I want to emphasize that although I have not used the laptop much since I upgraded the CPU, everything seems to work well. I'm just worried that I may have still some problems of overheating, especially since the most recent processor can generate a little more heat than the original (35 watts instead of 31 watts).

  Ok. I'm done.

  The hard drive was not recognized because I did something stupid. When I got the new drive and put the old man back, I forgot to transfer adapter plastic little new hard drive to the former. The pins on the old drive never made contact when I put it back in the system.

  Once I realized my mistake, I could format the old drive, put Vista on it, Flash the BIOS to the most recent/last version and then replace the old drive to the new drive with Win7-64 on it. Piece of cake.

  Now, I did almost everything possible to restore and modernize this computer:

  • Faster CPU support
  • Max RAM
  • Battery high capacity
  • New, 1 TB hard drive (with the pin adapter back on!)
  • Replaced the optical drive non-working
  • Replace the non-functional keyboard
  • BIOS flashed
  • Replace hard drive broken plastic cover
  • Replaced the knob cracked and melted
  • Win7-64
  • Clean the vents, fan, radiator, new thermal paste

  Everything seems to work OK so far. Let's see if the overheating problem that caused my ex-wife (the killer of computer) to throw this laptop comes back, or if it is fixed for good. Thanks to those who replied with their answers to help me.

  Not with this model, but with similar models.

  I've seen some with wear through, sometimes plastic guides because a plastic poster on a post on the side of the cover on the status bar is missing.

  What I've done is reached through the back of the printer and pushed down on the metal plate that lifts the paper and were able to get the tray of the machine.

  If you have this scenario while there might be a method to fill the broken plastic area.

  So this weekend my Alienware x 51 cut out on me then that play a game, basically then ran the power cut and he tried not to restart itself.

  Tried to feed this back on the new fan and the display on the side of light flashed went for a second and nothing, no windows, no beeps, no nothing.

  The button power, but is sitting with a low light, like when you see when standby mode. Try again by pressing the power button nothing, button, nothing. literally this things won't answer anyway.

  Take off the Panel before checking inside, everything seems to be sitting very well. The temperature inside was warm but not overlapping to the point of overheating, cleaned the fans anyway.

  Left it so a couple of hours without power plugged him give the chance to cool if necessary, tried to put it on same as usual, nothing.

  There is nothing other that the power supply is connected, the brick has green light, then nothing power related as far as I can tell.

  Does anyone else have this problem? I work with in there myself and have never encountered a problem like this. Checked most of the bases (will check the fuse in the plug) but without any reference of the machine to say what is wrong, I am puzzled at the moment, any idea would be appreciated.

  Open the folder and removed the graphics card holders, one of heatsink bugs had broken some how and causing the heatsink to be dislodged. A simple PIN broken plastic was the cause.

  Now ordered replacements, which was not easy to find at all. I hope that they are the right size and that should fix it.
