4.1 - Proliant ML350 G4P ESXi hypervisor

Hello

I'm trying to create a virtual machine on a server Proliant ML350 G4P with ESXi 4.1.0 (Build 348481) is installed. I created to mimic the settings for a server that we could install Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) on the virtual machine. When I try to boot from the server 08 .iso, I get the error message below.

This server has 4 GB of RAM and an Intel Xeon 3.2 GHz processor (64-bit). After reading this (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/216478) message, apparently I'm supposed to be able to run ESXi 4.1 on this machine, even if there is no option in the BIOS to enable virtualization technology. Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the community,

You can install ESXi on a system without support of VT. However, in this case you can only run the 32-bit clients. 64-bit clients depend on the VT.

    Hello

I couldn't find my server in the list of VMware compatibility for any version of ESXi. My product ID of the server is 470063-454. It has an Intel Xeon 3 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM (which will be upgraded) and 2x72.8 UltraSCSI320 GB hard drives connected to a controller, SmartArray 642.

Does anyone use this server with any version of ESXi? I'd be curious to know what version (4.0 last?) and if you have had problems.

    Thank you

If you have only 2 disc, you must make a single RAID (I don't remember if this version of the controller supports multiple virtual disk on the same RAID).

For the band, if it is SCSI and the SCSI command is supported (do not use the RAID controller), you can add your tape SCSI id to a virtual machine.

  • CAN/How to ESXi 4.0 to a HP ML350 G4p

I hope someone can help out me on this...

I received a ML350 G4p with 8 GB of ram instead of payment for services. I'm uncomfortable with the Intel witebox servers but I am new to HP and VMware. If possible, I would like to virualize a Windows Small Business Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 (the two 64 bit) 2nd on this material. I'd appreciate some tips:

    1-make install 4.0 ESX or ESXi 4.0?

2 - What BIOS update and/or Foundation or the packs used? I tried upgrading the BIOS to SBS08 but have problems to see the DVD to install the guest operating system.

could 3 - you point me to a good resource or 2 to start learning about VMware for server environments 1-4.

4 - everything you can imagine can be useful.

    Thank you

You will not be able to install ESXi 4.0 on a ML350 G4p.  The minimum requirement is a G5, Intel-VT must be available and supported by the chipset and processor.  I think that this is due to the nature of 64-bit ESXi 4.  Whatever it is, the G4 is not on the HCL for ESXi 4.0 or 4.0U1:

    http://www.VMware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

Note: selected ESXi 4.0 Installable with the keywords "ML530" leaving all others to 'all '.

I'm sorry but this is COMPLETELY INCORRECT! If the first poster meant for ML350g4p Search Forum, you would have found many messages that I started.

Bottom line. I have a HP ML350g4p and I'm under ESXi4. Now, it's a server not supported, that it is not listed in VMware HCL. However, this does not mean that it does not only that VMware and HP will not help you if you are having problems.

I did test in-depth the ML350g4p with ESXi 3.5 Update 4 and ESXi 4 Update 1. Both work. NOTE that version that you access even if you want to go for classic ESX 3 or 4, you will NOT be able to run 64-bit virtual machines. Nothing you can do I did a lot of research and tried to find a solution. This server can only run 64-bit OSs natively (non-virtual).

My recommendation that you're new to VMware and virtualization is going for ESXi 4 and not the classic version. VMware go very slowly for the service console and ESX to ESXi as thin, 4.

In any case I hope this clears up things! If you need assistance regarding updates firmware and other HP associated stuff and / or VMware helps with that specific server, you can contact me. I can guide you since I have the same exact material and also went without any knowledge of VMware until several months ago.

    Good luck

PS You don't want to install the customized version of HP of the ESXi if you go for version 4. It does not benefit because unfortunately providers CIM (basically the things that can talk to your hardware and get information on health) do nothing for this particular server. However, if you go with ESXi 3.5 U4 then I suggest that you download the version of HP as these CIMs provide this server info-Santé. I tried this in multiple combinations and allows you to save time and mental health

  • Drive very poor IO performance ProLiant ML350 G6

    Greetings,

I began to administer a VMs works two Proliant ML350 G6. We used the same material since ESXi 3. The Smart Array is configured in RAID 5, which means that we have installed a write cache (256 MB). I opened the case to find that we DO NOT have a battery. I did a few tests using HD Tune running right on one of the virtual machines during after hours (very low load on the system) and the disk i/o was horrible! About 35 MBs write average! WHAT? After having poking around on the web, I've learned that without an update of the battery pack, the controller refuses to apply it's full hardware acceleration and rewrite the features. ESXi also does not implement any kind of acceleration of the reduction and relies totally on the controller in order to give him. in any case, to have bought a 1 GB FBWC (write Flash based Cache) would give us battery performance?

In fact, I'm impressed, you saw 35 Mbps without BBWC/FBWC! Usually, you would see something between 10-15 MB/s in write mode and troughs (without BBWC/FBWC) and > 80 MB/s (more probably) write back (with BBWC/FBWC) mode.

I have a HP ProLiant ML350 G6 in the HDD rack before I have some unused slots and I want to fill them with some news readers. How do I do that? I do not have a "cage" where to put a standard 3.5 "drive, so I wonder if I need to buy the whole cage + reader package.

In addition, can I organize the disks in any way I want, more than one RAID volume with a simple bracket and a single raid card? I guess Yes, but I want to make sure, and ask is free

  • Maximum number of virtual machines by free ESXi hypervisor?

    Community of VMware,

I just installed the free 5.5 ESXi hypervisor and I wonder if the same virtual machine limits apply to the stand-alone scenario as vCenter? Can I run actually 512 VMs? What, if any, is the maximum number of virtual machines, I can run on a free version of ESXi?

From 5.5 ESXi limits most have been removed, but only a limit of 8 vCPU per VM remains. So if I'm wrong, the VM 512 mentioned for each host (see http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere5/r55/vsphere-55-configuration-maximums.pdf) affect the free hypervisor.

  • VMWare ESXi hypervisor of 5.5 Free Edition on a server explosion 2

    Hi forum,

I just installed a hypervisor 5.5 ESXi on a HP Server a test socket.

It works great and I could license with free ESXi license.

Now, I would like to upgrade an acual ESXi 5.1 Fujitsu server with two explosion (2 x Xeon E5-2630 6 c/12 t) and 64 GB of RAM.

The server is in eval mode 60 days of ESXi 5.1 because of the 64 GB of Ram. The license hypervisor free ESXi 5.1 only works for 32 GB of Ram, so I couldn't activate it.

Is it possible to update AND license the machine two struggling with ESXi hypervisor from 5.5?

My housing a real test-system shows that the license is valid for a power outlet. Can I register two free hypervisor 5.5 licenses on the Fujitsu 2-socket-server or is a license enough.

In the worst case, it does not work with 5.5

I only have a single ESXi server, so I need a vCenter and so on.

At would be in your opinion?

    Thank you very much

    Yes it's quite right.

  • ESXi Hypervisor - start of the guest on the question of booting operating system

    Hi all

I am very new to the game of VMware and I intend to start playing with free products available and to acquire a good understanding of it.

My question that I have currenty obtained is:

I have my desktop PC, I intend to install 5.1 ESXi hypervisor on it and then install a version of windows as a guest operating system.

I hope that I can set up so that when I turn on the computer, windows automatically boots - so if my wife wants to use the computer, it can still, and his experience is no different. However, I can then install several other OS and turn them as and when I need and have a good game.

Reading through the documentation that it doesn't look like this is possible?

I know that this is not strictly the destination of the product, but it would be convenient for me.

Has anyone encountered this before? / You know a way to do this?

    Thank you very much

    Tom Whittle

Welcome to the community - it is possible to have a virtual machine to run at startup of the ESXi Hypervisor but where your solution falls short is you are not able to access the virtual machines in the ESXi host console - you still need another machine to run the vSphere client so you can manage the ESXi host and access the virtual machine.

  • VSphere ESXi hypervisor free, re-usable clon server tests?

    Hello

I tested VMWare vSphere, ESXi Hypervisor, the free program.

I try to get tips motherboard I should buy to test the vSphere Hypervisor?

I tested some form of Intel and Asus motherboard and Boot CD saysit cannot detect the network card. But in a Dell 2950 PowerEdge, it works very well.

Another thing is that I read that in a motheboard with only SATA2 ports, the data store is detected as 'rare' and not 'local', so my final question is if vSphere is recommended only from servers brand or certification or if this could work in a re-usable/clon/DYI Server?

    Thank you very much

    Oliver

Although the ESXi Hypervisor can run on office equipment - often only when equipped with an additional supported NIC - it's officially supported only on the server hardware that can be found in the VMware Compatibility Guide
