4.1 upgrading of concern (32-bit vCenter) upgraded to 64 - bit

Will start working 4.1 update soon in the laboratory.  My thought is that 4.0 is a 32-bit version of VC.  We installed on the OS, so need to create a 32-bit 64-bit DSN.  Someone has updated a vCenter 4.0, linked below on a 64-bit OS (2 k 8)?  I expect that the process of update 4.1 to deal with it effectively (IE, I create 64-bit DSN start upgrade and the upgrade process modifies an existing installation of 32-bit to 64-bit install?)  Any input appreciated.

See VMware Documentation Upgrade Guide, specially the

32 and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Office can exist on the same installation of Windows. So if you have Office Starter 2010 32 bit installed, its more than likely other applications are also 32-bit.

  • Dell PowerEdge 2950 of installation

I'm testing DPM on a Dell PowerEdge 2950.  To make this work, I have need to configure IPMI if I can have a server go to safe mode and out of safe mode.  I've been Googling like crazy, but have been unable to find an answer on how to get this working.  Whenever I try to put my host in standby I get this message:

vCenter has determined that it cannot resume host & lt; hostname & gt; standby; Therefore, the eve of the entry task was suspended.
Confirm that IPMI/ILO is configured correctly for host & lt; hostname & gt;.  Or, configure vCenter to use WoL, making sure there are at least two or more hosts in the cluster, and then try the task again.

A couple of things about this error: an it is a cluster two host (for testing purposes).  Two, I use Dell hardware so I have to use IPMI not ILO.

I have connected my DRAC page and enabled IPMI over LAN, but I don't know what else to do here, and I don't know where all the parameters concerning this in vCenter or ESX.  Any help would be appreciated.

I used the setting of Dell OpenManage.

Under system / main system / remote access, you can see:

Select the IPMI Over LAN-> Yes (don't forget it is YES)

    SOIL active Yes

    XXXXXXXXXX MAC address

    IPv4 address

    IP address static Source

    YYYYY IP address

In ESX, under Configuration / PowerManagement / properties I use:

    BMC IP: YYYYY

  • The upgrade from vCenter for 64-bit

I'm about to upgrade from version 4 to version 4.1 vcenter server and I have a few quick questions. I am a little concerned about the part of the database from the upgrade.  We currently have the database on a server remote windows 2003 and I was curious what, if anything, I have to do to the database if I use the DataMigration tool?  I have a new 64 bit server ready to go, but I'm a little curious what needs to be done to the database and it is ok to point the new 64-bit to 32-bit SQL server vCenter?  any help is appreciated.  Thanks for a great site!

  • Upgrade paths for vCenter Server 4.0/32-bit to 64-bit/5.0

So, for various reasons beyond my control, when we installed vCenter server when we migrated from 3.5 to 4.0, it has been installed on 32-bit Windows.

Data backended by a full instance of SQL Server (not the MSDE version that comes pre-packaged with vCenter).

So, I try to understand the strategy of less impact for the trip to 5.0.

One idea I had is simply to build a new 'home' for vCenter Server on x 86-64 and point the application on the existing database running on 32-bit windows server. (I'm guessing that the 32/64-bit nature of the database server itself is largely irrelevant as it allows 64-bit vCenter Server to talk to it). I think then that all information cluster all would remain intact since it's in the database, etc..

If I had to, I guess, we could install vCenter 4.0 (64-bit) on the new host and THEN perform the upgrade, if it was really important, but I somehow don't think it is.

Once that is done, we would eventually just make a backup/restore type upgrade path to move data out of the old host and the new host and re-point vCenter Server in its local database now.

A that someone does something similar to this? Traps, we should be aware of? Warnings that it would never work the way we expect it to be, etc, etc. ?

That's what I'd do.  It your DB is remote, it is a fairly straightforward upgrade.

    1. turn off your old Instance vCenter

    2. backup your DB instance

3 copy the SSL directory off the old vCenter and the new (you'll probably to manually create the path, before installing vCenter)

4 set up your ODBC connection and test

    5. install vCenter and use existing DB

Assuming that you are going to use the same host name and IP address for your new instance of vCenter, like your old, all stocks will be as it was before the upgrade.

  • Upgrading vCenter 4.0 32-bit to 64-bit vCenter 4.1

    Everyone...

Upgrading vCenter vCenter 4.1 to 4.0u1. The current server running vCenter 4.0 u1 is just a Windows 2003 based VM.

Databases supporting vCenter and Update Manager is installed on a physical Server SP3 to SQL 2005 64-bit.

I want to plan and to implement the upgrade as follows:

Remove the current vCenter domain and turned off.

Turn on a new virtual machine running Windows 2008 64 bit and rename it as the old server vCenter.

Add the new vCenter server to the domain

Installing vCenter 4.1 on the new vCenter server and use the existing databases that support

    the old server vCenter.

Use the Update Manager to upgrade vSphere 4.1 on each managed host computers.

What possible questions could meet or must be aware, as I implement this

    upgrade process?

During the installation process and it asks to use an existing database, will be installing

just updated the database to process and store the configuration data of the server vCenter 4.0?

Once the upgrade is complete for the new vCenter server.  I see the same configuration

as I saw in the old server vCenter configuration?

Looking forward to all the world the answers... Thanks in advance!

I agree with Redbaron51.  I used the setting level guide and things worked perfectly.  There is a batch file that backs up the database and converts it to the new 64-bit server.  It was very easy and worked as advertised.

  • Advice on upgrading to VCenter 4.1

    Hello world.

Our VMware environment is still sitting at 3.5.

We plan to migrate to 4.1 and trying to bring together the thoughts about what to do with VCenter.

We currently have a server Win 2003 physics VCenter connected to a SQL 2000 Server (for VC and UM databases)

We want to end up with:

-VC running as a virtual server

    -win 2008 R2 64 bit

    -VCenter 4.1

    -databases on SQL 2005 64-bit

I'm not sure that the best way to do it.

I created a Win 2008 VM. With that, I will install VCenter 4.1

But here, I created a new SQL database and recreate the data centre and cluster and then import the hosts and virtual machines in our server origianl VC.

Or should I try and export / import the DB from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005.

I don't mind a database of UNIFIED messaging to create empty because we have not yet use.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you

Depending on the complexity of the configuration and the size of the environment.

If there is not no d ' assign permissions or pools of resources configured, I would setup a new vCenter

recreate the Datacenter and Clusters and import the guest (virtual machines will follow)

After the organizers have new vCenter, upgrade / reinstall them at ESXi4.1

But also Nexus 1000v installed on the ESX Server and vCenter.i found VMware KB which is http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1024641 . But only the ESX Server upgrade is explained on this KB, vCenter quid?  Our vcenter 4.0 is installed on Windows 2003 64-bit with 64-bit SQL 2005.

We can upgrade vcenter with Nexsus plugin 1000v installed upgrading on-site without problem? And how to proceed? What are the effects of the plugin Nexus1000v installed on the server vcenter during update?

Nexus1000v 4.0. (version 4).sv1(3a) has been installed on the ESX servers.

    Concerning

    Mecyon,

Upgrading vSphere 4.0-> 4.1 you must update the software VEM (.vib) also.  The plugin for vCenter won't change, it won't be anything on your VSM (s).  The only thing you should update is the MEC on each host.  See the matrix previously posted above for the .vib to install once you're host has been updated.

Note: after this upgrade, that you will be able to update regardless of your software of vSphere host or 1000v (without having to be updated to the other).  1000v VEM dependencies have been removed since vSphere 4.0 Update 2.

After installation, there was a lot of blue screens including: -.

    Memory management errors

    Bad pool header error

Several internet queries (probably from Microsoft OneDrive store)

I understand that this machine has not been tested as part of a verification of the compatibility of HP / Microsoft.

My question is: there will be updates on the site of HP driver Support in the near future to include 64-bit Windows machines concerned 10 drivers? Or links included for Intel Chipset drivers when they are available to Win10?

    At any time.

I am pleased to have been of assistance.

Maybe try again before the end of the free period.

It is possible that they will have worked on bugs and the most up-to-date version at W10.

Who knows, it might even be the integrated graphics Intel W10 driver that is buggy.

I got my Elite 8200 throwing XP Pro x 64, Vista, W7 Pro, W8.1 Pro business and now in W10 Pro works perfectly on every operating system.

The A100-306 supports the Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset.
This chipset supports 4 GB RAM max.
This means that you can use 2 x 2 GB modules.

Yes, you can use 512 MB and 2 GB of RAM, it should be possible

Usually it s recommended to use modules with the same specifications
I mean that the modules must use the same speed (Mhz) if one of the modules will be slower then the fastest module be pointed down and the two modules would go to lower speed
