  I have an ESXi host 5.1 with a virtual machine, acting as a file server. The host has more than 4 TB of local storage that is not in use. Is it possible to introduce this 4TB as a single volume to the VM file server? I would just like to
  be made available as a drive in Windows.

  I read some solutions autour using RDM or by creating 2 TB VMDK and configuring as interval in Windows training. Are there other options?

  If you want to run a configuration support, virtual disks of ~ 2 TB are currently the only way to go, because RDM are supported only with LUNS on the shared storage. Personally, I would not combine the two virtual disks in the guest OS somehow (dynamic disks, RAID0) but consider split user data and is present through different actions or DFS.

  We have a customer who has today esxi4 and vcenter 4.

  They set up a new system of vmware next to it, with esxi5.5 and vcenter 5.5

  They make the old SAN (FC) available in the new vcenter. But how do we migrate the virtual machines.

  Could we just add one of the old esxi4 to the new vcenter 5.5 without interruption all vms and migrate them to 5.5?

  Or should clone us virtual machines? (some are domain controllers)

  Option 2) if both guests can see the SAN, just closed the VM down, remove the inventory on the old host, click the find an ESXi host 5.5 to the data store where this vm, and add it to the inventory.  Then you can power it on a d tools on this upgrade.

  Suppose we have a esxi host with 2 versions one with esxi4.1 and another with esxi5.5 and vm is running on esxi5.5 with the latest vmware tools but with material 7. is it possible to migrate this virtual machine to esxi4.1 without any problems even with vmware to update tools?

  1. it allows virtual computers running older versions of VMware Tools to operate in a supported configuration on more recent versions of ESXi.

  2. it allows the VMS running newer versions of the VMware tools to run in a supported configuration on older versions of ESX/ESXi.

  So, the answer is YES, you can run a virtual machine with VMware Tools of ESXi 5.5 on an ESXi 4.1 without problem.

  Since I found the solution to the problem of connecting to the device of vcenter.  It is a conflict of IP address on the network.  There was a machine with the same IP address virtuall

  as the vcenter server.  This caused intermittent problems etc.. Why web client would still work if I have the vmware client open I do not know

  I play with an Esxi5.5 and different things.

  I am currently 5.5 market two hosts under 8 workstation. Virtualization VT - x enabled.

  I have two virtual computers with Server 2003 64-bit, I installed earlier. (playing with FT on 5.1 nested hosts)

  Here's the interesting thing: one of the VMs refuse power upward with the formidable

  "This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit operating systems. However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.

  Longmode is disabled for this virtual machine.

  But I'm not able to find what is causing the error.

  Whatever it is, it comes to the virtual machine. The two hosts are able to run the other VM, which also corresponds to the 64-bit.

  And the two hosts recognize that the HV is ok:

  ~ # esxcfg-info | grep HV

  |----HV Support............................................ 3

  By comparing the .vmx files I don't see any indication as to what may be wrong.

  I could just remove this virtual machine and move, but that would not provide any how useful learning, isn't it?

  I have a question about the different versions of esxi servers managed by a vcenter server 5.0u1.

  Let's add a new esxi Server 5.0 u2 for current production environment.

  Some servers running esxi5.0u1 and exceed kinesiologist on vCenter.

  all servers in esxi5.0u1 are together in one group of VMHA cluster

  We try to add a few "new version esxi5.0u2" servers for these environment.

  vCenter (5.0u1) added to the current and added to the current group of clusters.

  Is supporting the mixed enviroment (worm different esxi5.0u1 and esxi5.0u2, running the same cluster group) by VMware?

  I use a lab with VMware Player 4.0 (DC, vCenter Server, 2 x nested ESXi5 hosts) and I try to install the Manager of VSA via command line.

  I changed the tomcat dev.properties file to bypass checking for VCA (evc.config = false), which works very well.

  However, the command-line installation complains that the VSA VM doesn't start after the deployment of the FVO and customization models of the virtual computer.

  I see that it could be a problem with nested running 64-bit VMs - where this article not that Player 4.0 is supported for this.

  I see also that nested VSA VMs is possible in Workstation 8.0 - according to this.  Tried to set the processor virtualization engine mode ESXi5 of 'Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/IVR' to see if this allows virtualization of material to get through, but it has no effect on the VSA system.

  I just need to bite the bullet and pay for licensed Workstation 8.0, or is there something that can be done to get working in Player 4.0 VSA.

  All advice appreciated.

  I'm busy trying to install OMSA 6.5 on my newly installed ESXi5 server and then enable the UserVars.CIMoemProviderEnabled setting to allow me to connect to openmanage without the need of distributed web server. I installed OMSA 6.5, twice to be certain, and again the UserVars.CIMoemProviderEnabled parameter not does not appear in the settings of the advanced software. Has anyone tried this and got the advanced settings parameter is displayed?

  VIB esxcli installation of the standard steps that I followed:

  1 . copy the Dell_OpenManage_ESXi_OM650-offline_bundle - 467660.zip

  file in the folder/var/log/vmware on the server ESXi5.0.

  2 . close all comments on the ESXi host operating systems and run the ESXi

  host in maintenance mode.

  3 if you are using Windows, go to the directory in which you

  installed utilities vSphere CLI to execute the specified command

  to step 4.

  If you are using vSphere CLI on Linux, you can run the command in step 4

  of any directory.

  4 . run the following command:

  esxcli - Server <IP address of ESXi 5.0 host>

  VIb software install d/var/log/vmware / <Dell

  OpenManage file>

  5 . type the username root and the password of the ESXi host when you are prompted.

  The output of the command shows a successful update.

  6 . restart the ESXi host system.

  Well, it seems to work.  I mentioned before about the new Uservar "UserVars.CIMvmw_OpenManageProviderEnabled", and it seems that maybe the way they do with ESXi5.  After the installation of the agent of the OMSA mentioned in your message, Uservar appears.  After him, the Dell management Plugin connects successfully to the agent of the OMSA.

  Hi is anyone using Splunk as a Syslog server?

  I have everything set up according to the docs, but I see no logging on the splunk Server

  so far, I have added following end of /etc/syslog.conf

  I opened UDP 514

  esxcfg-firewall - o 514, udp, outside, syslog

  esxcfg-firewall - l

  Then in splunk I configured an entry to listen on UDP 514 all hosts in network data.

  There is no other firewalls between the ESX host and splunk server.

  but no joy...

  I use Splunk 3.4.3 46779 on Windows. I have currently a case opened with splunk but as we have not bought support with them his best endeavour, just wondering if anyone has this work

• VMK dvswitch migration fails VC5.5

  Hi all

  Hope you guys and girls can help as I feel that I have the question below and feel like I m missing something obvious...

  I built 3 new hosts ESXi5.5 and added to a Cluster in vCenter 5.5, I have a Setup dvswitch for vmk management adapters I've added 1 hosts successfully on to (we also 3 hosts UAT on the dvswitch even that work very well). Whenever I try to migrate the adapter vmkernel guests 2 final of the port the ping to the host drop dvswitch group and revert back after 30 seconds or more...

  Ive checked config physical switch that seems to fit through the guests, so there must be a setting etc. I'm missing somewhere. Any suggestions?

  The current laboratory environment/review is based on the 5.0 but assignments are also applicable to the 5.1, so you can prepare with these versions.

  Even when there is a version 5.5, it will probably coexist alongside the current review for a while, as has been the case for VCP5-VTC - old review for this is VCP510 and the new is VCP550 and people can take at the moment.
