7073ca: HP DV7 7073 - corrupt BIOS

Hi all

My Pavilion DV7 (7073ca), running windows 7 Professional, recently started acting very strange and then becomes unbootable. I recently installed an SSD with the cloned, OS, but I do not clone the partition HP_TOOLS (mistake #1). When you try to start, the caps lock key will blink twice, indicating the BIOS corruption error.

Knowing this, I tried almost everything to fix. I tried without clogging and re - connect the CMOS battery, I checked the voltage of the CMOS battery (it was fine), nehter of those who worked. I then tried to do a recovery USB using the provided HP the EXE file. It turns out that doesn't work don't not on windows 7, great, thank you (sarcasm) HP, so I had a friend make me a USB recovery on his computer windows 10. Using the windows key + b key trick, I tried flashing the bios recovery, with no luck. I even tried to use the same configuration with older versions of the BIOS without success. At this point, I decided to call support HP (error #2). They basically told me to google the anser and check the forum... Thank you, never thought of that (as sarcasm).

Now I feel like im all out of options. If one of you could help me please, I would be very happy, my only other option is to buy a new motherboard I want to avoid at all costs. \

Thanks in advance.

I don't know how old is your computer, but if it is newer, you can try Partsurfer HP to see if the motherboard is available at HP.  If this isn't the case, you can search to see where it is sold.  I know that you would most likely find it on ebay.  Buy the same motherboard will make much easier since all the components will be fit and the recovery media will work.

Here is a guide on Youtube that will help you to replace:

I have a Pavilion dv7-6b63us laptop.  I went into the Windows in file Explorer folder, msinfo32.exe entries in the search block and found that my Bios version is dated F.02 03/10/2011.  Then, I went to the section drivers and downloads for HP software and clicked on the Bios, and they showed a version of Bios F.1C dated 18/02/2016.  I downloaded the version F.1C and save my download folder.  It is safe for me to install this version of Bios on my laptop?  I read somewhere that you could be in a lot of trouble if you install a version of Bios that is not intended for your computer.  Can someone make sure it's OK to go ahead and install the Biso F.1C version?

If the fan does not work, then it sounds like a bad fan sensor or a bad connection going to the sensor.

The upgrade of the BIOS will not solve the error message fan you are experencing. In addition, it is not recommended that you upgrade the BIOS if the fan is malfunctioning under the fan kicks in full throttle during the upgrade as a precaution. If the fan does not work and you upgrade the BIOS and overheating of the computer will power off computer and will be probably corrupted BIOS and brick your computer.

  • p6110y (aba): corrupt bios

corrupt BIOS, hard drive not detected.  Bios F10 quit screen.  Download sp46442.exe update of the bios.  Rename ben.43 to HPBIOS.ROM.  At this point, I'm stuck.  Already create a usb bootable back.  What the bios flashing utility program are used?

Read the previous comment about just bios make me confuse.

    Hello

Just give it go as I have suggested. Insert the CD containing the rom file renamed and shut down the PC. Now turn on. If the process is going to work, the rom file will be detected on the CD and read in to Flash the BIOS.  If this does not work, then you will need to send it in for repair.  Depending on the age, it may not be worth the cost to do so.

  • Envy 17-j043cl: corrupted BIOS

Problem started when my daughter has added a second HD and we have installed Linux on this drive. There is no entry for Linux BIOS boot change the default boot order, and all attempts to make changes only not good for the worst. We tried to go to the legacy mode, which promtped a reboot and the next screen to enter a code to take effect and a prompt for boot options, which never came to the top. When we went back into the BIOS, it shows the inheritance is always disabled. Enabling secure boot restarts even in a code to enter, but this also fails. Currently, we have tried to activate either (secure boot and legacy are disabled). Win 10 defective ACPI_BIOS_ERROR before secure boot disabled. We can enter the BIOS and go to Boot Options, navigate to the file boot firmly his Linux and efi. Linux works fine, we were not able to boot on a Windows 10 DVD to try to repair Windows 10 and at this point can't get secure startup, or legacy startup to activate. We also tried allowing only an administrator BIOS password but no change, still unable to activate.

We tried F9 to restore the default BIOS, no change. We tried the menu to restore default BIOS, no change. We have tried, perhaps thinking that something has corrupted the BIOS, to level or to reflash the BIOS with BIOS version even. F.66 currently. His ID card system is 1965. The problem with all BIOS download for its Touchsmart from HP Envy 17-j043cl and unregistered is they don't have that file system board BIOS code 1966 1961, but hers is 1965. Without an exact match, we at our end to get this matter resolved. Any ideas? This sounds like a corrupted BIOS? Why does it seem impossible allow a secure start or inheritance? Is the boot options locked so as to only allow to boot Windows normally from the BIOS? Pointers or other ideas to help are appreciated.

    Joe

Yes! It is fixed. Inside the interface EFI partition was the 01966.bin file, the last touch to this riddle. We were able to reflash it to the same version, F.66, USB, we had created since the softpaq (sp73289.exe), via the system, firmware management Diagnostics. It flashed fine and then started right Windows 10, so nothing on the disk hard Windows has been tampered. We'll put to start first at openSUSE 42.1 Leap and may start in Windows 10 in the Menu of Grub easier than playing with BIOS options each time.

Thank you, DoughJohn, for all your help.

  • White screen of HP Pavilion dv5 1002nr start-up and error code lights flashes twice, corrupt BIOS!

Equipped with a corrupt BIOS, I struggle to try to replace the BIOS of the motherboard.

The processor is a AMD Turion series.

Question, can anyone tell me definitively when the BIOS chip is located on the motherboard.  It seems to be next to the RTC battery on a piece of white under layer in the cutting of a transparent plastic layer.

Also, is this the only way to save the laptop from the corrupted BIOS will not work the POSITION for me to get into the BIOS to try to restore or update?

It is laptop a grandson and grandpas still inherit this type of problems.

I'd appreciate any help, instructions or information on this seemingly hopeless situation.

    Thank you

You are right about the location of the BIOS chip, this is a chip of 8 spindles/leg next to the battery.  The only other option if you are sure it's bios is to replace the motherboard.  The bios chip is on ebay for $20 to $30.  I have the same problem with the same laptop and I think I'll just bite the bullet and replace the motherboard, if the problem was caused by overheating it could have other problems that surface after replacing the bios chip and you will be chasing ghosts.  The motherboard is also on ebay for $ 119 to $ 175, for the moment.  I hope this helps.

  • Satellite C855D-135 - corrupt BIOS, black screen, keypad does not work

    Hello everyone.

I had some problems with my laptop Toshiba Satellite C855D-135. I had to change my internal hard drive, so I decided to install windows 7 on it (I used to have windows 8 but do not have the CD and I could not find the license key sticker).
So I went into the BIOS it go from UEFI to CSM, but something was not right and he seems to have corrupted the bios.
I think I have it bricked, but some things still work.

    When I turn it on:
-l' screen stays black (Yes, I tried it on another screen)
-the keyboard is not working (the leds do not turn when I press the caps lock)
    -the fan works fine
    -cd player works fine
-When I plug a USB key, it quickly flashes once, which seems to work
-When I removed the memory bar, the computer has done is the series of beeps

-J' tried to remove the battery, unplug and pressing the power button for centuries. (no luck)
-J' tried to remove the CMOS battery to restore default bios. (no luck)
-J' tried flashing the bios on a USB key, until I realized that the keyboard was not working and it was in vain.
-J' tried to update the bios on a CD and it ran for a while, but nothing happened in the end. I tried to put these files on the CD:
    -IBIOS. BAT
-C8610. FD (in the folder of Win8)
-C610. FD (in the WIN7 folder)
-J' tried to rename C8610. FD to the BIOS. FD

I am out of ideas now.
Could someone help me? Pretty please?
I hope that this is not the motherboard that broke, coz I really didn't have the money to send it off to be repaired.

In the history sounds very strange to me I never heard that that it would affect the BIOS to change the boot UEFI to MSC mode.
In my opinion, there is a serious hardware problem. As you already linked to, it would probably be a motherboard failure.

I recommend you to ask some technicians for hardware diagnostics to check the motherboard in order to be 100% sure about the fault.

If you n t have enough money and the motherboard is really affected you could try to recover a part of 2nd hand

  • Corrupt BIOS on the Satellite X 200

I think I've damaged the BIOS on my Satellite X 200, when I tried to update the version of the BIOS using the software on Toshiba support page at
    http://UK.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=UK
    Satellite X 200 2.50 - WIN32 Toshiba

It seems to have applied the update; no error when running this utility. BUT my X 200 primer is more.
I suspect that the BIOS has been corrupted!
My X 200 is two and a half years, so more under warranty.

    What are my options?
The BIOS chip can be replaced? If so, how Toshiba likely to be practiced for this Service?

Would like to see that all the tips.

    Hello Tony

In my view there is not much you can do about it. The BIOS chip is damaged and only authorized Toshiba service can help you.
Try to contact the closest service and explain the situation.
