8900 XPS, Windows 7

Only complaint...

Dell, would it kill you to create a new model number for major revisions to a model?

Studied the XPS 8900 for a client, many references to Windows 7 running on it. Ordered one, lack of drivers on the website, check out this review board cannot downgrade Windows 10.

Is it so difficult to add a number to the 8900 for a revision, such as XPS 8910. Then at least the customers could have a chance to find out it can not run Win 7, I declare the chance, the web indicates it cannot be downgraded, at least not in the obvious areas.

I'm sure it would be easier to accept machine returns, as find it me hard to believe that you do not support Win 7 on machines since nobody else as members of the Romper Room, or the Phisher Price bands or computer illiterate focus groups wants 10 Windows.

Could have ordered the 8900 XPS with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (Windows including 10 Pro license).

You should be able to install Win 7 Pro from a USB key if PC has win 10 Pro (OEM) now who has free downgrade rights. Win 10 Home has no free right of demotion for Win 7 and you will need to purchase a license Win 7.

I see a complete list of Win 7 64 - bit drivers for the 8900 XPS so that drivers can not find you?

  • How can I download the software package installed on my 8900 XPS?

    Due to an error in the user totally preventable, I ended up wiping the 1 TB drive that came with my XPS 8900 that I received a couple of weeks. I would get all the auxiliary software like DVD and other things. I found the iso to restore my OS and drivers, but I see no other applications that were on the hard drive. Some of them, which I don't have, but some are quite useful. Is there another iso HD for apps?

    Finally, I was able to get my SSD to work, but that was the immediate cause of the wiping of the hd.

  • 13 9333 XPS - Windows 10: sudden, random and irrevocably stops audio output

    The subject said. Audio driver for Windows 10, XPS 13 9333 buggy from the beginning! I had to reboot several times a week to "reactivate the sound." Errors are two complete sound driver crashes (the speaker symbol turns red and Windows 10 offers to try to solve the problem - well, of course that does nothing...), but now also this:

    At random intervals sound just stops. The volume can still be controlled, I do not see an error in the Windows event log (but I don't know I looked everywhere), Manager of devices for Realtek High Definition Audio shows the driver as work. I hear a brief 1/10th of a second loud white noise sound stops and that's it. I have to restart.

    UPDATE - solved:

    I reinstalled the CHIPSET DRIVER too and after the following restarts his is back.

    Thanks to a tip in this forum here that says "drivers installation order can be important."

  • No video on bios in my new 8900 XPS after changing the default GPU 745 for GTX 550 TI

    I'm having a strange problem where no video is displayed on the screen using my NVidia GTX 550 TI.

    Only when the system completed start-up I get the windows login screen and from there everything is ok. This problem only occurs when windows is not yet loaded. by hitting the "F2" to go into the bios screen remains black and no activity is to be send to the monitor. Any ideas what is the cause?

    Hi Richdtv,

    Your post belonged to the desktop video forum.

    Please don't forget to provide more details when you post it. For example, I assume you are using UEFI. Did you disable secure boot? The new card supports UEFI?

  • Upgrades for the 8900 XPS GPU

    My machine shipped today and I'm planning a GPU upgrade.  I have currently a 2 GB GTX 750 Ti in my old system and you want to stick with nVidia.  I think I need to go at least to a boost 4 GB GTX 960 or 970 to get a decent life.  Don't want to spend a lot because their architecture Pascal will come out next year...

    What power connectors GPU the PSU 8900 comes with?  What upgrades GPU are you thinking, and the stock PSU it will manage?

    In general, I think that the graphics card for the 8900 updates will follow what works on the 8700.

    Best I can tell, the 8900 has the same power supply as the 8700, and there are six pins of the PCI slots.

    Here is a very long list of what has worked and not worked in 8700 s.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19611037

    The cliff notes are THAT GTX 960 will work with the Stock PSU.

    Some become GTX 970 s work with the stock power supply, but this is (in my opinion) more load the stock power supply can provide.

    I have a 760 GTX, a GTX 770 and a GTX 970 and the 970 is a significantly better graphics, especially with A-list games. The 770 is good but there are still a few tears and artifacts when all the pleasure of the eyes is set to ultra.

    If your resolution is 1080 p that the 960 GTX is a good choice for the price of $200, but for the high-end gaming 970 GTX is an update worth it even if the cost of the PSU is taken into account.

  • Compatibility M.2 SanDisk SSD X 400 with new XPS 8900 and cloning issues

    I just got a new 8900 XPS running and ordered a Sandisk X 400 1 TB SATA III M.2 drive for her.  I know, adding that a PCIE SSD with adapter would be much faster.  But I'm not a gamer and concentrate more on edge backup and storage.  And the new Sandisk card gets good reviews and should give a nice speed boost.  This will be my first attempt at cloning of a new boot disk and install an SSD.  I went through the forum and found some good information.  A few questions...

    One of the sons said that an SSD with the B and M keys (like this one) may not work.  Searching the Web I found no comments from anyone who has tried this particular SSD in a new XPS desktop.  No compatibility issues?

    Another thread has been posted problems with starting the XPS 8900, when you add a new disk, but the updated BIOS to 2.1.3 seemed to be the solution.  I confirmed that my machine already has this version of BIOS.  Once again, any concerns?

    My plan is to clone again SSD in the computer using Acronis or other software, then set as the boot drive in BIOS.  Is there a reason to delete the operating system of the C: drive, thereafter, or can just stay as a backup if problems occur with the SSD?

    I have already installed a few programs including MSOffice 2007 and Windows Essentials, so I can use the machine, but otherwise it is always very clean.  When I do the clone will be these OK execution since the SSD without much messing around?  And they will have to be uninstalled from the HARD drive?

    Thank you!

    I'll answer some of my own questions.  The M400 Sandisk SSD drive arrived today and I found a screw M2x4 at Ace Hardware to install it with.  Installation was super simple.  I used a pair of pliers to hold the small screws in place and then a Jewelers screwdriver to fix it.

    He seemed to take more time for the first start that made me nervous, but all loaded without any problems.  I rebooted and that you press F2 to get into the BIOS and the new SSD was there!  And then let the computer loads Windows and checked Device Manager and it's still there!

    As expected the reader not yet appear in Windows because it was not formatted.  I used under Computer Management disk management to initialize the disk.  And now I have a new drive I: 935 GB free.

    So far so good.  Seems like the M400 Sandisk should work perfectly.

    Next step is to clone.  Always blazing new territory for me... when the drive is cloned it will remain I: or it will be C:?

  • Looking to update the graphics card in my Dell XPS 8900 EVGA GeForce GTX 960.

    I have a Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition that I bought a few months ago. I want to upgrade the OEM GeForce 745 of GTX that it came with an EVGA GTX 960.

    I have the Dell XPS 8900 (processor i7 - 6700 k), 32 GB of memory, 2 TB HDD + SSD of 32 GB m2, monitor cache Dell UP2516D and Windows 10 Pro. I'll add a second monitor Dell UP2516D soon and later add an SSD and move the OS and applications on.

    My needs are not at stake. I mainly business applications (MS-Office, including access and project), finance and investment, and a lot of photo and video editing.  Photo editing software uses the GPU if I update.

    EVGA has suggested either of the following, based on what would be good:

    http://www.EVGA.com/products/product.aspx?PN=04G-P4-1961-KR

    http://www.EVGA.com/products/product.aspx?PN=04G-P4-3963-KR

    These cards are almost identical except;

    #1 is long of 6.8 ", has 1 BIOS, 1 fan and use 128 watts for $160

    #2 is 10.1 "long, has 2 BIOS, 2 fans and consume 160 watts for $170

    I thought I would replace the graphics card myself, but once I opened the folder, I was wondering if the two cards will even fit.  I saw that other people have swapped their graphics card, so it must be possible.

    When I look in my case, the existing graphics card is a single location.  These two cards are double slot.  In addition, it seems that there are a few transistors just next to the existing card.  When you install a card double slot, the new map is just overlap the transistors under?

    Finally, in view of these two cards and the XPS 8900 case, is it possible to put the card in?  Is it worth the extra $ 10 earn an extra BIOS and fan, to the detriment of one more card of time and 12 watts?

    Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated, thank you.

    Dual cards fit without any problem. Many have improved their 8900 XPS and 8700 with cards that need two slots of width.

    I prefer the models dual fan as they run cooler. They have a bigger heat sink and with relatively low heat from GTX 960, some are silent at idle because the fans do not work.

    For example, MSI GTX 970 son fan only above a certain temp that only happens every game. Maybe the EVGA card did the same thing. It is nice to have a quiet system at idle.

    Regarding the adjustment, the MSI GTX 970 games 4 G card Dimensions are (mm) 140 x 277 x 35. Length and height are tight but it fits without cutting.

    In addition, as noted speedstep you run SATA cables under the card. I replaced the SATA cables with longer cables, so they route toward the front of the box, then under the graphics card and upward.

    This thread has many cards different people have added. (the link is on page 26) and about the halfway point is my son with the MSI GTX 970 system, which (I think) is slightly larger that the EVGA 960 you listed.  It also shows the case mod to add a front fan.

  • XPS 8900, use of Nvidia GTX 745

    Hello

    I bought a Dell XPS 8900 with a GTX 745. Should arrive this week.

    Will this DDR3 4 GB Dell OEM Nvidia GeForce GTX 745 c:

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX DVI out--> in--> #1 U2412M DVI DVI to DVI cable = 1920 x 1200

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX out HDMI--> HDMI / DVI--> #2 U2412M in DVI = 1920 x 1200

    Above config works with my old PC (see below).

    Can I add a #3 Monitor VGA input and 3 monitors at the same time?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Old (and always reliable!) XPS 8100 with AMD 5450 can support this with my 2 x U2412M monitors:

    Reference Dell AMD 5450 out DVI--> in--> #1 U2412M DVI DVI to DVI cable = 1920 x 1200

    Reference Dell AMD 5450 out HDMI--> HDMI / DVI--> #2 U2412M in DVI = 1920 x 1200

    Confirmed to work with my new 8900 XPS:

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 out DVI--> in--> #1 U2412M DVI DVI to DVI cable = 1920 x 1200

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 output HDMI--> HDMI Cable DVI--> #2 U2412M in DVI = 1920 x 1200

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 output VGA--> in--> #3 U2211H VGA VGA cable VGA = 1920 x 1080

    Note:

    I did a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro on an SSD that I added and to use.

    Assist support gives me an error "Primary Surface Test cannot operate" with more than one monitor. single monitor flickers during this test.

    It passes all THE tests brilliantly using one monitor with a DVI connection.

    I did more testing on different monitors.

    I guess it's a problem with Support Assist; I can provide more details on request.

    Happy with the purchase!

  • Adding an SSD to a new XPS 8900 - the games begin

    I recently bought a new 8900 XPS of Costco. I bought an Intel SSD 240 GB 535 and wanted to use it as a boot drive and I was going to format and use the 1 TB came with the PC as a storage device. Initially, I cloned the drive OEM to the new SSD. This worked not so great - slow time - about 35 seconds of startup.

    I did a clean install of Windows 10 and tweaked the settings of the UEFI. Computer started without the OEM disc hung at this stage. Current start time is about 26 seconds. A little more than 18 seconds of playing with BIOS/UEFI. None of the changes to the BIOS seemed to make any changes. I was going to live with that, but I have 2 laptops to win 10 that are to start in 11 seconds and 8 seconds. I had just about everything responsible for appropriate programs.

    Then, I started with the hanging OEM drive and the boot SSD drive. I went to the OEM drive format and startup I'm met with screen ePSA error error Code 2000 - 0723 - hard disk - drive detected... (which apparently is not a code that recognizes Dell?) Continue to hit, I'm on the desktop. I already had the installed Intel SSD Toolbox and optimized the SSD drive. I did a quick diagnostic analysis on the SSD and it reported no problem.

    Restarted the PC and press F12 to run the tests in the Dell Diagnostics. I now see an error code 2000-0142. It indicates there is a hard drive with the new SSD failure. I have restart beyond the error message and make the Intel Full diagnostic Scan. Intel shows no problem. Hmm? I turn off the computer and unplug the SSD and starting on the OEM disk. I get the same screen ePSA that already displayed, press to continue and I'm at the office level. Reboot, then run tests, the hard drive now and it passes all other tests. I turned off the computer, removed the power cord, the CMOS battery and the power button. Back together and clear the log files. I'm met with the same screen ePSA error code 2000-0723.

    I have an another SSD - 240 GB of SanDisk. I unplug the drive OEM and plug Intel and SanDisk. I cloned the Intel on the SanDisk and only to the SanDisk card. Same screen ePSA opens, but now the diagnostics Dell passes all the tests. I run the Intel driver update utility, which displays no update. Device Manager displays all operational systems.

    If you have done so far, I appreciate it. :-)

    Questions-

    Reference Dell sees something he does not like with the Intel SSD, but Intel said it works fine. I could return it, but I think that there is nothing wrong with the hard drive. I don't know what to do next.

    How can I get rid of the warning of the ePSA? It appears little matter what hard drive boots.

    Is there an other BIOS/UEFI which is available? I've pretty much exhausted the changes and 18 seconds a looong time appears.

    Thank you!

    SSSANTI - good news! error code 2000-0723 has gone through an update of the bios dell version 2.1.3. Check the support page for the download file.

    A word of warning - update not gotten too smooth I would have thought. I ran the exe of the BIOS and let it do its thing - when he finished update, the computer is for restarts itself, and it seemed as he took in a loop - it would be marketing and then shout down before the splash screen. He made several times - I almost unplugged the machine. Finally, it starts at the start-up screen and then end the initialization up to windows - everything was fine. I rebooted a couple of times and even made a cold start to ensure there are no problems and everything seems OK.

    Disconnected a hard drive test, rebooted and no mistake - FINALLY comes

    FYI - it seems that it starts a little faster.

    Hope this bios update resolves your problem as well.

    Its probably something to deal with the UEFI.  There in BIOS, any possibility to use both UEFI and 'Legacy' or BIOS? Or maybe when you turn on the computer to select the USB boot option, there may be something classified heritage and you try to boot from USB.

    Sorry I should have mentioned that I also tried both UEFI and legacy.

    I managed to install Windows 7 Pro x 64 on the 8900 XPS.

    Which, in my view, the problem is that the motherboard has only one USB3 controller.  The background has "USB 2" ports, but I think they're going to a USB 3 controller that is causing the problem.  I think that it can cause a kind of mode error limbo where WindowsPE is confusing because it is not purely a USB 2 port, because Windows 7 is not compatible USB 3 out of the box.  I tried to load the drivers USB 3 when he asked for the pilots, but it did not accept the drivers regardless of the reason.

    The only way I could find to install was to use a DVD version.  The DVD is instantly working and I did not load additional drivers during installation.

    I must point out that I had to burn a CD with the extracted versions of install it the driver for the USB ports to work properly when I was on Windows.  I couldn't get my mouse to work at all, and I had to navigate via the keyboard only.  Installing drivers Intel USB 3 solved the problem right away though and I don't seem to have problems after the installation of their.  I also had .net Framework 4.6.1 and Kernel - Mode Driver Framework 1.11 installed on there as well as some of the Intel drivers required them.

  • XPS Desktop PCIe 8900 close question

    I am trying to add 2 small PCIe cards for the 8900 XPS running WIndows 10.  One is for IEEE1394 Firewire support, the other for additional USB ports because the front youssef for Firewire also has USB ports, so might as well use them.

    My problem is that when I install these 2 cards PCIe and plug a power cable between one of the spare SATA cables & PCIe cards every time I try to stop Windows 10 system restarts instead!

    VERY irritating!  In almost 50 years playing with computers I have met a great many who refuse to start when you want, but not very many, who refuse to stop!

    (I checked in Device Manager and none of the devices are set to wake the computer)

    All suggestions greatly appreciated

    Thank you

    Thank you Dan. h.

    I was hesitant to try this after spending 2 days to finally get the disc system transferred and works correctly on a SSD and not sure how that can be incurred.

    However, the problem seems now to have been resolved!

    Both cards PCIe, I was working on that said that no additional drivers on Windows 10 did, Windows will take care of this fine - BAD!

    Then Device Manager I noticed the drivers to use & then uninstalled the drivers for the new cards.  Then run the drivers supplied by the manufacturer & rebooted the system.  Device Manager recontroler that shows exactly the same drivers installed after the reboot.

    But - then when I stopped it all worked normally and has done for the last two days!  So presumably manufacturers drivers did something for WIndows drivers.  Or maybe even something for the cards themselves?

  • 8900 of the XPS hard drive upgrade

    Hello

    I recently bought a desktop computer Dell XPS 8900 running Windows 10. I would like to replace the original 1 TB harddrive with a 6 TB drive. Both are Seagate disks.

    My plan was to copy all of the original content of drive to the new drive. This includes the Windows partition and 4 partitions hidden of Dell.

    I used Acronis True Image 2016 to make the clone and it worked except that all the partitions are exactly the same size as the original drive and I get about 561 GB of unallocated space at the end.

    Acronis software seems to include controls to change the size of the partition, but I can't expand any partition. In addition, I notice that if I do not clone one of the partitions it is always created on the other drive, but without any content. So it seems I can't change the partitions at all.

    What I wanted for the scores of Dell to stay the same size but the Windows partition would develop and use all other non allocated space. As it is now the 6 TB drive might work, but most of its space is unusable.

    I tried a partition also software with without success. So, where will I leave here to copy the hard drive without a large recovery effort?

    Thank you

    Mike

    UPDATE:

    After many hours of grief and dead ends, I found a solution to my problem.

    First of all, this link describes the Dell recovery options. (Add w for posting a link)

    ww.Dell.com/support/article/US/en/04/SLN297920?c=US&l=en&s=BSD&CS=04

    I did not like these options and didn't try. I guess they would only restore the image 1 TB. Instead, I decided to clone the drive.

    I used a free version of Macrium Reflect this. The target drive has been connected via USB. Despite their claim that I could use the software to resize partitions, I was unable to change partitions and ended up with a copy of 1 TB. In addition, they have no support for their free version. But I had a clone of work on my new 6 TB drive.

    Then, I used AOMEI Partition Wizard free Version to merge the OS partition and unallocated space. To do this open the program, do a right-click on the OS partition and choose 'Merge the Partitions' then select 2 partitions you want to merge (OS and unallocated space) and then select 'OK '.  The computer will restart several times, and when it was done my OS partition was 5,44 TB.

    Good luck if you try it yourself.

  • XPS 8900 and Samsung 950 PRO Boot sequence problem

    I have a 8900 XPS with Windows 10. I have a Samsung NVMe 950 PRO SSD installed using a x 4 PCIe3.0 NIC - to-M.2 installed in PCIe SLOT on the XPS 8900 motherboard 3. I used Samsung cloning software to clone the OEM 1 TB HDD (immediately after you set up Windows 10 on it) for Samsung NVMe 950 PRO SSDS. Then I used the Samsung Software Wizard to install all the latest drivers.

    The only way I am able to boot from the SSD PRO 950 is to detach the HARD drive (which invites a Code of error Dell # 2000-0141 or something like that... no disc HARD detected). Seeing the Dell error at startup screen, I click on 'Continue' and Windows 10 boots perfectly fine (and very, very quickly). I just used my PC this way for a few weeks now. However, I really want to take advantage of the disk of 1 TB of extra storage space.

    When I plug the HARD drive and reboot, Windows 10 is loaded from disk (not the SSD) and I don't get the Dell 2000-0141 error screen. I pressed F2 or F12 at the Dell splash screen to go into BIOS to change the boot sequence, but I don't see that the SSD listed as a 'disc' or the source file for the start of Windows 10 controls... Shut down the PC, unplug the HARD drive and starting up, I get the Dell screen #2000-0141 again error (without HDD detected), click on 'Continue' and Windows 10, even once, start up normally on the SSD.

    Is it possible that I can use the drive HARD without the PC automatically boot from the HARD drive?

    Thank you!

    -Tyler

    First you need to download the latest driver of Samsung 950 NVMe (this is not included and is required) to you

    OEM HARD drive, then clone the drive.

    its about half way down the page.

    Then see if you can find it in the BIOS, I pulled out my HARD drive and its in the pile of gift, all SSD for my system. I'm sure that you can remove the secure boot and startup of the PCIe SSD.
