• Compatibility M.2 SanDisk SSD X 400 with new XPS 8900 and cloning issues

  I just got a new 8900 XPS running and ordered a Sandisk X 400 1 TB SATA III M.2 drive for her.  I know, adding that a PCIE SSD with adapter would be much faster.  But I'm not a gamer and concentrate more on edge backup and storage.  And the new Sandisk card gets good reviews and should give a nice speed boost.  This will be my first attempt at cloning of a new boot disk and install an SSD.  I went through the forum and found some good information.  A few questions...

  One of the sons said that an SSD with the B and M keys (like this one) may not work.  Searching the Web I found no comments from anyone who has tried this particular SSD in a new XPS desktop.  No compatibility issues?

  Another thread has been posted problems with starting the XPS 8900, when you add a new disk, but the updated BIOS to 2.1.3 seemed to be the solution.  I confirmed that my machine already has this version of BIOS.  Once again, any concerns?

  My plan is to clone again SSD in the computer using Acronis or other software, then set as the boot drive in BIOS.  Is there a reason to delete the operating system of the C: drive, thereafter, or can just stay as a backup if problems occur with the SSD?

  I have already installed a few programs including MSOffice 2007 and Windows Essentials, so I can use the machine, but otherwise it is always very clean.  When I do the clone will be these OK execution since the SSD without much messing around?  And they will have to be uninstalled from the HARD drive?

  I'll answer some of my own questions.  The M400 Sandisk SSD drive arrived today and I found a screw M2x4 at Ace Hardware to install it with.  Installation was super simple.  I used a pair of pliers to hold the small screws in place and then a Jewelers screwdriver to fix it.

  He seemed to take more time for the first start that made me nervous, but all loaded without any problems.  I rebooted and that you press F2 to get into the BIOS and the new SSD was there!  And then let the computer loads Windows and checked Device Manager and it's still there!

  As expected the reader not yet appear in Windows because it was not formatted.  I used under Computer Management disk management to initialize the disk.  And now I have a new drive I: 935 GB free.

  So far so good.  Seems like the M400 Sandisk should work perfectly.

  Next step is to clone.  Always blazing new territory for me... when the drive is cloned it will remain I: or it will be C:?

  I've not seen a chart explaining flashing power on the 8900 XPS button codes. And there is nothing in the Manual.

  You need to contact Dell tech support immediately. You have 21 days from the date of billing (no delivery date) to pick them up. And then you can order another.

  Otherwise, technical support should work with you to solve the problem under warranty on this system.

  If you are comfortable working inside the case, it is possible that something got its place potted during shipping. Then you can try reseating the RAM and PCI-e cards modules and cables between motherboard and drives and connection etc. Don't forget to read the instructions on the inside of your PC use in the manual before opening the case.

• New XPS 8900 with 1 TB of Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 errors

  Bought, new system XPS 8900.  After less than a week, already affected by HARD disk errors.  Checked with Seagate, downloaded the tool so that the updates of the firmware.  None is available.

  Yes, the system is under warranty and support, but the point here, because I hear repetitive as of late problems with faulty Seagate hard drives, I'm not the only one?

  After installing an mSATA SSD and try to configure Intel RST to use as cache SSD, I found that the installed version of RST was causing system problems and establishment of acceleration would not occur.

  After a brief visit to the Intel Download Center, I found an update for Rapid Storage v14.8.0.1042.  I installed it without problems, and since all the software and hardware problems have disappeared. Then, I was able to complete the configuration of acceleration for the SSD cache drive.

  In addition, HARD disk errors have also stopped.  I would recommend this updated version.

• Installation SSD as boot in XPS 8900 drive

  I just ordered a 8900 XPS (17, 1 to HDD, 16 GB of ram) which is set for next week (November 5). I bought a new Samsung 850 1 TB SSD which I intend to install and use for the OS and applications. The operating system and the programs will come preloaded on the 1 TB HARD drive included. Can someone offer tutorials online or instructions on the best way to accomplish the migration?  For example, I heard Samsung includes software with their cloning SSD drives, but I don't know if it's better to first install the Dell new out of the box using the HDD stock, get my created user account, etc. and then install the SSD using Samsung software to clone the HDD to the SSD. Or is it better first to install the SSD as a boot drive and loading windows, and then use a recovery disk to implement the SSDS? I don't know if Dell has a FAQ or tips on this operation, or if I should turn to the internet for help.  I would in particular, support the approach to follow once inside the box from Dell, i.e. connect the proper SATA cables, using the correct settings of the BIOS to recognize the drives, etc.

  How will charge you for the SSD Windows unless you first run the computer with the HARD drive and create recovery media? No media came with my XPS 8900.

  In any case, good idea to use recovery media to install Windows on the SSD. Samsung's Migration tool does not create Dell recovery partitions - I've found by experience. Cannot create media recovery of SSD if you set up the migration tool from Samsung. SSD works well, but no recovery media or image cannot be created. At least that's my experience.

  Most of my SSD renovations are in Mac where there is no question. I had problems re creation of recovery media with both Windows 10 where I've equipped with SSD, a Dell and HP. So good to have created first from the HARD disk recovery media

• All new XPS 8900, card mother USB3.0 connector question

  I just got my 8900 XPS nine this week, as a replacement for my Inspiron 530 s who died after 8 years of good service (my previous post on the Dell Community is older than 8 years...). This is the high-end with GTX 960, SSD, 2 TB HDD, 256 MB video card configuration.

  I have a little problem with it and would appreciate an outside opinion on this:

  Yesterday, I opened my 8900 XPS in order to add an additional HARD drive. In the process, I noticed that the hypothesis of fan 960 GTX is pressing firmly against the front, USB 3.0 cable, to the point of the plug is slightly flexed. In addition, the cable is slightly clogging the fan 960 GTX. I was a little displeased with this, as it's clearly inappropriate cable routing. Apart from that, all other cables inside the XPS 8900 are very neatly.

  I removed the GTX 960 (this is necessary in order to remove the HDD cage) and then realized that the façade, USB 3.0 cable is too short, and the plug is very wobbly. I tried to pull gently, to detach the cable and find a better way to move. It seems that the USB 3.0 (the light blue plastic part) is not attached to the motherboard! I noticed the fixing clip, and while pressing it, I lifted the CAP slightly (about 3mm). But decision-making would not unclip and come out as well as the plug. Fear of bending a PIN, I pushed the plug in and gave up trying to detach. Then, I installed the HARD drive and put everything back in, as it was.

  The computer works well. The two façades USB work normally (tested with an external drive USB 2.0). Given that I've already migrated all my data and started to use the computer, I would really dislike having to send it back just for that, unless the issue is a threat of failure in the future...

  My questions are the following:

  -Is it normal that the plastic of the motherboard USB 3.0 connector tip is just pressed (not glued to the motherboard)? If this is not the case, do you think that it has to be fixed or if I can live with it?

  -Do you think I can replace the cable USB-Panel, with a more long (is it standard?) and thus solve the problem for good?

  On mine I disconnected the end of the motherboard and routed it bends 90 degrees and below the map.  To do this I had to unplug it and leave that he unplugged while I routed the flat cable.  Then insert a GTX960 and screwed the card holder in.  With the cable stuck the card in the back, I reconnected it into the motherboard.   I agree that this cable is too short.  Unfortunately, the motherboard connector is microscopic pines which are easily bent or broken.  While I did once, I wouldn't do it again.  This isn't a standard 20-pin connector of the Panel before USB3.

  Worse still, the photos DO NOT see THE real manual 8900 service within a 8900.

  The black usb cable into the blue micro 20 connector pins on the motherboard is not displayed in all images.

  I just bought a new desktop XPS 8900 computer rendered 25/05/2016 and restarts itself.  No new hardware installed or the program with the exception of World of Warcraft and Ventrilo.   Just really started using this machine last week because I've been very busy after his arrival.

  I search the web and he says that he may be PSU related issue.  It's under warranty, but no idea why a new computer restarts it self?

  Windows 10?

  There are several reasons possible, hardware and software: PSU, RAM or HDD problem, overheating, corrupted the OS or other software...

  Just restart? All the errors on the screen? You can look in the Windows Event Viewer for errors at the time of an accident that could point you in the right direction.

  If you bought directly from Dell, I think you have 21 days from the date of the invoice (not delivery date) to return to contact Dell Tech Support as soon as POSSIBLE.

  If you got in a big box store, you can probably return/exchange it under whatever policy they have. So go.

  Whatever it is, don't forget to reset Windows to the factory image, before return you it.

  The game starts, and we're going to play at any point in the game.  Looks like he recorded afterwards, once "exit us Windows" option and closing the game.  The next time we open the game and go to "Load Game" is 0% (which means that he has not saved and it again all the way)

  If she's not saving it is not because you have not installed to the default location. I never install games to the default location as it can cause problems, especially with the permissions, but also many other things.

  I've not played the game much (5.5%) and it has been a while, but I have a viable record.
  Apparently, there are various issues with automatic backup system. I just had a look and a short game. It seems that if you load your backup and "free play" a box, you can choose to save and exit, but when you start a new area you reach a checkpoint or the end of the level and rely on "auto-save". Apparently, you always restart bat cave during the loading of a backup.
  If you start a new game and play at a checkpoint or the end of the level for an "auto-save" I guess that the game will save to a different location.
  He is not a player very friendly system - IMO, but seems to be the method of Warner Bros.

• Addition of 16GB to new XPS 8900

  Have not yet opened my new (just released) XPS8900. He ordered withb16GB of RAM and have ordered 16 more RAM for a total of 32 GB.

  My question is do I have to configure the GET first, the computer running, then installing the extra memory?  Or install additional memory before I ask first?

  It fits very well install RAM after the fact. The BIOS should detect the change and configure it accordingly. Windows can simply display a message about RAM and Windows Experience Index.

• Want DV7 - 7227cl adding an ssd as boot drive and keep the original as a data reader drive.

  I want to do this and use the software that came with the laptop, not go out and buy more.

  Anyone with an idea how to do this... now the laptop is booting from the SSD and the physical disk is removed, because she takes as boot drive.

• Is XPS 8900 1 TB HDD to Samsung SSD upgrade - a sound plan?

  I'll be unboxing my new XPS 8900 this weekend containing a 1 to drive HARD and Windows 10.  My ultimate plan is to add/replace this with a SSD from Samsung 850 (probably a 1 TB) and have a clean install of Windows 10.  Based on this goal and what I've gathered online, my plan would be as follows:

  1. 8900 start and activate Windows 10 (for Microsoft servers recognize this license on my PC
  2. Create a bootable media Windows 10 (probably USB) MS direct downloads
  3. Download and install different drivers from the Dell website for 8900
  4. Install the SSD
  5. Perform the clean installation of Windows 10 for SSD using bootable USB; install the necessary drivers gathered in step 3.
  6. Re-enable windows 10 license with MS according to the needs (what is automatic as recorded in step 1?)
  7. Remove the original HARD disk or reformat for use as secondary drive

  Issues related to the:

  1. The flaws with this plan?
  2. Any reason, I can't do without various applications/utilities Dell coming more in this process?
  3. Any reason why I can't get all the required drivers via a combination of Windows (automatically) and manual downloads of the Dell site?
  4. A reason to keep the recovery on the original HARD disk partition?
  5. No reason to use Alternatively Samsung cloning feature instead of taking my steps above?

  Any thoughts would be most welcomed.

  Your plan sounds good to me. My personal preference in this situation would be a clean install of the operating system, but you also have the option to create a set of recovery discs or a USB flash drive and restore the image of Dell for the SSD. This would be certainly faster. Then you would still have the factory image for later use.

  Have the recovery partition on the original disc, for me, is not important because you have the recovery discs or flash drive.

  Hello, everyone.  I got my new XPS 8900 i7 6700 for two weeks and I will do my best to not be negative. It has a large hard drive.  How is that?

  I looked for the record because I won't have what it will take.  I think, if ever, I decide to sell it, I'll have all the memory on board.

  I thought that I had a 32GNB the value chosen and then discovered that it was not compatible, so someone would give a few suggestions that ARE compatible, please?  Thank you very much.

• AHCI disabled on desktop XPS 8900

  I installed a new Samsung 500 gb SSD 850 EVO in my new XPS 8900 to my boot drive. When I select AHCI in the BIOS to work with my SSD, I get a message INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. After some research, it seems that AHCI is disabled and only the RAID is available. In order to optimize my SSD, I need AHCI enabled. How do I do that?

  You can also do a search on Google for the words there are other methods involving the modification of the registry. You can also reinstall Windows and update the UEFI before you start the reinstallation.

• SSD: Which method of installation is the best?

  I install my first Samsung SSD in a new XPS 8700.  It will be the boot drive for the Windows 7 operating system and program applications.  I have 3 options and am trying to decide which route to go:

  1. Use the migration software provided with the SSD drive for quick transfer.  Apparently, it does not copy the Dell partition.
  2. Installing from the Dell System Restore DVD I did when I ran the system.  This restores the Dell, or just the OS partition?
  3. A new installation of Windows 7 using the OS disc (which I have).  No Dell partition with this method.  Drivers must be installed.  I have the Dell drivers (rev A00) disk, dated April 2013, so I don't know how current drivers are out there, but I can download the most recent.  This method would require special SATA drivers be loaded during the installation?

  And what I need to do any special partitioning?   Thanks for your suggestions/comments.

  None of the special SATA drivers not necessary, and I would recommend to go with option 3: the new installation of Windows 7. Download the latest drivers for Win7 64 bit for Dell website, but I do not recommend updated the A06 BIOS/UEFI. Stick with A03 if that's what you already have. You can use a free application like 'Speccy' to see what you have (in the "motherboard" section). Also check that you are running in mode "AHCI" (as opposed to "IDE") in the BIOS/UEFI.

  If your 8700 was running Windows 7 and nothing additional is needed beyond what is mentioned above. But if your XPS 8700 has been running Windows 8/8.1, you will need change some settings in the BIOS/UEFI before installing Windows 7. • Can I add a new trigger to the beginning rather than at the end of a blank publication widget?

  Hi guys,.

  I am creating a page of photo gallery using the widget a blank publication. I want to be able to add new content on a regular basis by adding new pictures to the top (beginning) of the gallery for my most recent photos indicate at the beginning of the gallery.

  Currently, the small + symbol to add another trigger doesn't add a new trigger to the right (bottom) of the trigger group, putting actually newly added content to the rear of the gallery rather than at the front. I am able to get to add a new trigger in the Group and have that trigger to be first in the group to display?

  The widget seems to display the same behavior of the command, so I'm pretty stuck on how to work around this problem. I tried to re - arrange triggers, which became incredibly heavy but everytime I want to add new photos in the Group and move older further down in the order of the gallery.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated with this, cheers, David.

  With composition, adding the image would be as well as the addition to use the most (+) sign which will add next to the previous content.

  At this stage, you would have to re - arrange the triggers or you can display them randomly if you want not to re - organize. Those are the only options.
