A FB friend showed family photos. I want to move them to my external hard drive. How to do?

My friend has placed family photos over the years 30-70 on Facebook. I would like to have copies. How can I move copies of the photos on my TOSHIBA external drive? Or y at - it another way for me to get copies of these precious images (for me)?

Communicate with your friend and ask for copies.  Or check the help of Facebook and section of their site to know how to copy photos from their site, if they allow support.  If they don't then contact your dear friend.

Select the icon for the drive in Finder, and then press the combination of keys ⌘I (abbreviation of "file > read information").

Save your photos on external hard drive, you have two options - just save the INDIVIDUAL photos or save the photo library.

It would be better to copy your photo library on disk. This way you will save the versions published with all the metadata that you added and the original images in the quality is.

If you export photos you need to make your choice, if you want to export the edited versions or the original versions, or both.

    • To save the library, do it just from the pictures on the external drive folder.
    • To save the individual photos, open one of your albums, then select all photos with ⌘A, then use the command "file > export > export... photos ' and select one a high-quality format t the original size. Do this for all the photos. Check if the export went well, before you delete photos from the library.  To remove photos from an album using the ⌘⌫ key combination command + DELETE.

Empty the recently deleted album only after that you convinced yourself that the exported photos are OK and you have a backup.

  • I want to copy files from one external hard drive to another and can not?

    Hello

I try to copy the photo files and video from one hard disk to another.

The donor 2 TB drive is formatted NTFS and the receiver is 1 TB OSX extended.

There are about 72 000 photos and 475 GB in size. The 56 video about 226 GB files copied with some lacks but then make drag and drop made the other files of 5 or 6.

I tried to drag and drop, but some files have been copied not. After a lot of research through what was had been transferred I found about 5,000 had not copied I then did drag and drop with each of the 20 files or if some copied OK.

The troublesome files kept suggesting that a file "already exists" and stops the process when I clicked ok.

I want to delete the NTFS drive and reformat for OS X extended and then replace them on the 2 TB drive.

What I am doing wrong? Need me a software to copy?

Select the drive in the disk, then Edit/restore utility and select your 2 TB drive in restoration since. This will probably reformat the external hard drive, erase all data.

    Hello

    1. plug, turn on the external hard drive and let it be recognized.

    2. open Windows Explorer or My Documents or my pictures or my music.

3 right-click on whatever files you want to send to the external HD > move your mouse cursor on the send to in right click options > in the menu that appears, select your external hard drive as a destination.

    4. When you open My Music, etc. you can go to Edition (for modification of file, etc. toolbar at the top) > select all to copy all the music at the same time.

  • How to move Photo videos to an external hard drive?

Short videos pile up in my PHOTO program and want to spend 129 of them in an external hard drive... the export function does not allow me to set the location for the export... which I find strange, after I selected all of the files to be transferred. Everyone has understood how to do this without resorting to individual transfers of each file?

I'm on a laptop Mac Pro with El Captain running and Photo Version 1.3 (350.23.0). It should be simpler than that... not?

    Export requires two steps:

    • Select first quality, the regime, the regime of subfolder, and then click 'export' of file naming.
    • Now, you will see a file selector Panel to select the location on your external hard drive in the Finder.

Creative Memories Photo Manager probably ejected your camera after you import the images. Check the default settings and change them if you prefer something different.

If your camera is not displayed as ejection, it is safe to remove it. Damage to the file system wouldn't be possible, but not certain, if he had written active file or buffer not released when the device has been deleted.
  • Visualization of images on external hard drive via Photos app

Is it possible to view photos stored on an external hard drive through Photos app?  I want to use the slide show feature but don't want to import them on my mac every time I want to see photos of old (and consequently taken disk space).

I just saw that when I import a picture in the Photos app, each image takes place twice the amount of space on my drive hard because it "copy of the original file.  Rather than using a reference library, which, according to other threads, is ill advised, I had to use an external hard drive for storing images instead.

Photos is not a photo viewer - is a Photo Manager and deals only with photos that have been imported into its library - you can have your library on an external hard drive or a second library on an EHD or you can use a third party Slideshow software

  • Library of photos on external hard drive does not open

So, I recently backed up my 2012 macbook pro on an external hard drive using time machine and wiped the computer. The hard drive shows that my old hard drive was saved (there ~ used 400GB the 1 TB), however when I try to open my photo library, it tells me that files cannot be saved? I was wondering if there's another way to open these files in addition to using pictures? the file says it's big 235 GB so I know that my photos and videos are out there. If someone could help me that would be great! The last 5 years of my life are in this file. (,:

You cannot open a Time Machine backup of the library directly. You must first restore somewhere.

Time Machine is a backup tool, not a tool for archiving. It gives you a window of time retrieve data that has been lost in the backup source. You can't count on it to keep the files you want to keep indefinitely. All these files should be saved with the rest of your original data. The files that you delete from the source volumes will be finally removed from backups, after a variable delay which depends on your usage model and the size of the backup volume.

  • Save selective photos on external hard drive

    Hi all

    I'm on 10.10.5 Yosemite

Re: Mac Photos - how best export / save selective photos on an external hard drive and clean disk space.

Problem: Photos to consume a lot of space and want to save / export pictures from 2011 to 2014 (value of 4 years) and just keep the current year (2015) for example. How do I get there?

Question: Mac 'Photo' stores all the photos in a single folder and access this file level understand I'm going to Show Package Contents > Masters after a right-click on the photo library.

Then, you can view all the files.

    Step 1

Is the best way to reach above it hang out in mac external drive 'Photos', I created via the Finder?

    Step 2

Then delete the files in the directory of Masters or the photo library

    Questions with above?

Thanks a lot for the advice and thoughts from anyone.

Never make changes to the internal structure of the iPhoto or the library of Photos with the Finder or any other app ever.

To do what you want to do first export the images of Photos:

    File-> Export

and send them to your favorite place.

Subsequently, remove them from the library using the library interface.

    This trick of the user

    https://discussions.Apple.com/docs/doc-4921

a details of the options in the iPhoto export dialog. In a few minor differences, the options of Photos are the same.

That said, these are the images also on the iCloud library? Because if that will complicate things greatly. In addition, what you will lose the functionality of non-destructive editing. Better to save the images in a library of Photos and keep all of your options.

You can do this in several ways - split the existing library or create a new one and hover over the images. There are different ways to do it depending on what you choose.

Alternatively, simply move the entire library to an external.

  • Lightroom recognizes not all my photos on my external hard drive?

Lightroom recognizes not all my photos on my external hard drive, he sees the part of a file, but not all the files it contains. Virtually everything is there except that one folder, it says all were imported, but they don't show...

If you wwant photos will show up in Lightroom on your external drive, you must (in Lightroom), do a right click on the folder on your internal drive that has photos and select Update folder location. Then select the appropriate external hard disk folder. You may get a message asking if you want to merge files, allow this merger.
