a new tab opens whenever I do a search on my home page, how can I stop this from happening? I checked the browser.search.openintab and the value is set to FALSE, any ideas?

I want all my research just to stay on the same tab I have already opened.

The browser.search.openintab pref applies to the search bar (Google) on the Navigation toolbar and do not search bars on web pages.

Your answer showed no once again, but here are a few things to check:

    1. If you hold down the SHIFT key and then connect your camera that should stop the pse to open.

Then go into workstation, do a right-click on the camera (by car), select Properties > AutoPlay and you should be able to change what is happening.

    2. glance in the organizer of items in photoshop under Edit > Preferences > camera and card reader and see if the start automatically is checked.

(not all versions of the pse Organizer have that)

Try Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.

A way of solving problems, which disables most of the modules.

(If you use it, switch to the default theme).

    • You can open the mode without failure of Firefox 4.0 + by pressing the SHIFT key when you use the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • Or use the Help menu option, click restart with the disabled... modules while Firefox is running.

Do not choose anything at the moment, just use 'continue in safe mode.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the shortcut of Firefox (without the Shift key) to open it again.

If it's good in Firefox Safe mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one.

    Hi martyn2lewis,

You should look at this article on this specific issue and Preferences not savedarticle. It should give you all the information you need!

    If this does not work:

    1. Enter about: config in the address bar

    3. In the filter field, type Startup
    4. Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    5. Delete the text string, and then click OK
    6. Close Firefox and reopen the window to check that it worked.

    Hope this helps!

Many of us have disabled the changes made to the top [brandLogo part] of the Firefox Start Page, so that we do not see this 'trick '.

If you feel adventurous, here's how to 'fix '.
Type of topic: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Accept the message of 'dragons' to see the Advanced preferences screen. Use the search box at the top to enter the below pref.

You can assign an empty string to stop your Firefox to retrieve "extracts" and brandLogo changes the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref. Right-click this pref and select Edit then clear the value as pref in the box that appears, and then click OK. Who will also disable "snippets" that appear under the container of the research on the default home page.

Then you must open the folder of your profile, via help > Troubleshooting Information > profile folder > > folder view button. Then close Firefox.
Your profile file open with Firefox closed (Firefox '3-bar' menu key > exit/Quit), wait two minutes, then remove the storage\moz-safe-about + House folder in the profile folder of Firefox to remove the brandLogo and stored in IndexedDB code snippets to make Firefox use the default brandLogo and a defined default code snippet.

If you later change your mind about these changes, you can reset the pref browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl via the context menu and Reset to retrieve the default to start to use the storage\moz-chest-fort-about + House record once again.

  • When I open a link that opens a new Firefox window, it opens 2 tabs instead of one. How can I stop this?

When I open a link that opens a new Firefox window, it opens 2 tabs instead of one. A tab is the link that I opened and the second tab is just a generic Mozilla tab with links to 12 pages like Facebook, Youtube, etc. This tab opens on top too, so I always have to close to get what I'm looking for. How can I stop this from happening?

Hello. Thanks for all the posts on this topic. I have the same problem, as described by the op. But, while I use Avast, I have NOT the add-on from Astromenda which has been mentioned. However, I have the SB installed toolbar, and it has been recently updated, 29/12. I suspect that it is the culprit, if this problem is in fact not caused by an update of Firefox (my tiles have recently been reset on new tabs, and I suspect that Firefox for this problem).

I am ready to remove the toolbar from the SB, but prefer to keep it (Yes, I admit I'm stupid) If this annoying 'new window = 2 tabs with 'new tab' at the top' would just leave.

Apart from the removal of the toolbar SB... does anyone have suggestions? I don't see that all recently added add-ons/extensions that I don't recognize, apart from the update of the toolbar of SB.

Updated: 5 minutes after this announcement, I disabled the toolbar of SB and restarted Firefox. No change.

  • When you open a Word document downloaded, hundreds of tabs begin opening in Firefox. How can I stop this happening?

I just installed Office 2007 on my computer and downloaded some documents on the internet. When I try to open Firefox becomes crazy and opens the tabs of the browser faster that I can close them, with no sign of stopping. How can I stop what is happening and have access to the downloads? Any help much appreciated!

OK, solved. It's not Firefox, it's Windows. Somehow, it had been changed to open Word documents as browsers. I had my suspicions that it wasn't Firefox as Word documents to open in form of tabs in the browser even if Firefox is not running. The only way to open a Word doc was if it was already on the hard drive.

For someone who has a similar problem, it's how to correct:

    Open my computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    Click the File Types tab.
In the registered file types list, click the file that you are trying to open. In my case, it was the doc files. In the list this type of file has been shown by a Firefox icon, indicating that what was used to open the file.
Under the list of registered file types scroll details for each file type are displayed, with an option for "opens with:
Click Edit to the right of the present and choose the program to use in the future. Click OK and close the dialog box file types. This should solve the problem.
