About Oracle courses

I took the classes and I have the Oracle Certified Associate certification

In order to obtain the knowledge properly or my studies in Oracle, in what order I take the classes?
(A) oracle 10 g Enterprise Grig control
(B) oracle 10 g backup and recovery
(C) Oracle 10 g RAC
(D) oracle 10 g Dataguard

It's good to see a desire for education... but education can be petty meaningless without experience. A course can never replace the knowledge and the experience gained by really get your hands dirty.

You can already get your hands with RAC - dirty using nothing but a PC and Vmware. Or DataGuard. Or create a database, take the manual backup and start playing with RMAN that you manually trash db files and create problems to take care of the recovery. And while doing that sort of thing, you'll meet Oracle a lot better and more intimately than in a lab environment.

The courses are good. But when I interview an applicant who has been on a course of PL/SQL and have very little experience, compared to one who was not on a course is that self-taught PL/SQL and can actually sense answers when asked about in bulk of treatment for example... I tend to prefer the latter.

My suggestion is not to focus only on the course and by doing one after the other as quickly as possible... but use the knowledge provided by a class and who transformed into experience... It will last longer like this and improve your skills over those who participate with you and does not which turned into experience.

    I am rustic most qualified to answer this question, but I'll have a go at it. First of all, I admire your ambition!

    Dreamweaver is a great tool, but it will not necessarily learn you webdesign. Once you have an idea base of what happens in a website design, you'll really enjoy what DreamWeaver can do for you. I'll give you the same advice I was given when I wanted to first get into DreamWeaver and web design.

    I would really suggest some basic HTML and CSS books and use a text editor to create your first pages. Once you start to undersatnd that you do, then by all means, get a DreamWeaver training. Everyone has their own favourite titles to learn the basics, so I'll just say this is a suggestion and has helped me to start. The first head of series has been clearly written, has a good sense of humor, and helped me to get the basics. Check your libraries, shops of second hand books or other resale stores. I know you mentioned the Adobe online, but I have also used and as, Adobe Classroom in a Book series. Once I learned a particular version, I found the Missing Manual good for cutting-edge issues series and going to a new version.

    Don't be discouraged, stick with it and don't be afarid to try another book, if you don't like what I suggested. We all learn differently and what has worked for me may not work for you!

  • Question about oracle objects

    Hi people

    I came across the below example on the oracle documentation.

    I'm not quite sure why "emp is NULL #2' always get printed even if the Member attribute is assigned a value that should be non-NULL and" ""emp is NULL #3"isn't even after printing has been assigned to the object with a NULL value."

    Can one of you you please explain about it. or give the overview of the conditions of the NULLable object. Thank you!!

    DECLARE

    EMP employee_typ; -emp is atomically null

    BEGIN

    If emp IS NOTHING THEN DBMS_OUTPUT. Put_line ("emp is NULL #1"); END IF;

    IF emp.employee_id IS NULL THEN

    DBMS_OUTPUT. Put_line ("emp.employee_id is NULL #1");

    END IF;

    EMP.employee_id: = 330;

    If emp IS NOTHING THEN DBMS_OUTPUT. Put_line ("emp is NULL #2"); END IF;

    IF emp.employee_id IS NULL THEN

    DBMS_OUTPUT. Put_line ("emp.employee_id is NULL #2");

    END IF;

    EMP: = employee_typ (NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL,

    NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL,

    address_typ (NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL));

    -emp: = NULL; -It would have made the following statement of the TRUE IF

    If emp IS NOTHING THEN DBMS_OUTPUT. Put_line ("emp is NULL #3"); END IF;

    IF emp.employee_id IS NULL THEN

    DBMS_OUTPUT. Put_line ("emp.employee_id is NULL #3");

    END IF;

    EXCEPTION

    WHEN ACCESS_INTO_NULL THEN

    DBMS_OUTPUT. Put_line ('impossible to assign object NULL value');

    END;

    /

    The result is:

    EMP is NULL #1
    EMP.employee_id is NULL #1
    EMP is NULL #2
    EMP.employee_id is NULL #3

    I came across the below example on the oracle documentation.

    I'm not very sure why 'emp is NULL #2' always get printed even if the Member attribute is assigned a value that should be non-NULL and ' emp is NULL #3 "is not get printed even though the object is assigned to null."

    Can one of you you please explain about it. or give the overview of the conditions of the NULLable object.

    Have you actually tried this example? Why not?

    The best and often faster, learn is to DO - not just read.

    If you tried this example, you would see that you have been "bitten" by a documentation bug.

    EMP.employee_id: = 330;

    That the line of code won't work - it will trigger an exception is the output you get really

    PEM is NULL #1

    EMP.employee_id is NULL #1

    Can't assign value to the NULL object

    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

    SQL >

    The 'emp' instance has the value NULL as shows it the first message. If you cannot assign the 330 value him.

    For others, the example seems to be the Oracle documentation

  • Ask about Oracle certification for the Admin path

    Hi I have the underside of certifications under my belt:-1. Oracle Certified Associate of PL/SQL Developer 2. Oracle PL/SQL Developer certified professional that I would give Oracle Database 11 g administration Associate certification. I see that I need to give exams 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 for. So my question is whther I need to give Z051 review? Keeping in mind, I traced level OCP, authorized as a PL/SQL Developer. Thanks in advance...

    How can I get confirmation on this officially?

    See the FAQ:

    https://education.Oracle.com/pls/web_prod-PLQ-dad/db_pages.GetPage?page_id=82

    Look for the "SQL Fundamentals".  One of the questions will be: "How long can I use an exam to earn a certification? "Exam results expire?"

    The answer is: "do not expire the results of exams, but certifications are retiring, and that affects your older test results will help you to get certified or not. "

    If a specific review meets a requirement in a current certification path, it does not matter if you have passed the exam. "For example, if you have taken SQL, # 1Z0-001 review in 1997, you can always use it meets the requirement of SQL for Oracle database current certification."

    If you do not trust that - the moderator of the forum, Brandye, can come in a day or two to confirm what I said.  However, there is no doubt.  The question comes up fairly often.  In fact, I wrote a blog on this subject for more than a year (although this would not even "official", of course):

    What is the ideal RAM should I assign to my virtual machine to run Oracle 12 c for personal use.

    Personal use - convenient, cloning, backup of the database. Recovery of database of .dbf file. Sqldeveloper execution. Thanks in advance.

    I did it with 2 GB of RAM dedicated to the virtual machine. If you host only has 4 GB of RAM, so you may not be able to run many other in the VM host upward.

    That being said, I have usually at least 8 GB of RAM on my laptop work/computers positions of our days, if not more. With 8GB, I can create a 4 GB VM and have a better experience.

  • Some doubts about Oracle DBA...

    Respected, professionals

    I am new to Oracle RAC DBA. Knew just CARS and have some doubts, associated with Oracle RAC databases and a few other s/n basic questions.

    (1) client connected to one of the rac node in the database of node three cars by scan listener. The node to which it is connected was dead. My question is - is that its connection automatically goes to the next available node

    without using TAF? Or he needs to connect again? I have to configure TAF as in 10g RAC? or the configuration of TAF to perform a SCAN is completely misconceptual?

    (2) a database connection request will be going to one of the node system of three-node rac (shooting technology in return for load balancing). How can I connect remotely to PuTTY tru particular node?

    Do I need to enter particular node (virtual host as IP) TNS in tnsnames.ora in my system oracle client?

    (3) we have a listener to scan with three IP for RAC 3-node addresses. If you add a new node, I need to create another listener with a single IP address scan? or do I need to add another IP existing scan listener? What should I do to connect again with existing scan listener node?

    My sincere apologies over the three questions are completely misleading or false.

    (4) incremental 11 g rman are speed, compared with 10 g rman. WHY?

    (5) how connect us using sqlplus. (No high level architectural decoration). I mean what happens when connect us to the database using SQL * more (SQLPLUS scott/tiger)?

    My sincere apologies if any inconvenience caused... I know this isn't a chat BOX... Please forgive me If my way of questioning is insulting and rude.

    Thank you

    Hello

    If there is no TAF not configured you will have to reconnect.

    TAF can be configured on the side client (tnsnames.ora) or side (srvctl) server.

    (2) a database connection request will be going to one of the node system of three-node rac (shooting technology in return for load balancing). How can I connect remotely to PuTTY tru particular node?

    Do I need to enter particular node (virtual host as IP) TNS in tnsnames.ora in my system oracle client?

    You can connect to one of the nodes via PuTTY using the public IP node.

    To connect to a particular instance through SQLPLU, then you must specify the IP node-vip in tnsnames.ora.

    (3) we have a listener to scan with three IP for RAC 3-node addresses. If you add a new node, I need to create another listener with a single IP address scan? or do I need to add another IP existing scan listener? What should I do to connect again with existing scan listener node?

    You don't need to create another auditor SCAN.

    For your new node, you must assign the listener SCAN and LOCAL_LISTENER REMOTE_LISTENER must be defined on node-VIP.

    If possible, can you tell me how to make that comparison?

  • Passage of arguments about Oracle IRM Office

    Hello

    I am new to Oracle IRM and I'm trying to preconfigure Oracle IRM Desktop passing some arguments according to Oracle IRM Desktop Guide, but I don't know where and how put the parameters.

    Thanks for your help.

    Edgar Galvan.

    Hi Edgar,

    Ah! I see. Ok. I'm sorry. Here is our approach. We assume that for interactive installations, just simply run the exe, and then apply the settings that you need through the user interface. We assume that the additional settings are required for multi-users deployment will go quietly preconfigured with settings appropriate to that end users can just click and go. This can be bundled in a script that may have to do other things, like taking note of the fact that another licnse software has been used, or the end user enter the appropriate server application. For example, in Oracle, we have a central location called MyDesktop which hosts all the software that we are called to use. We just there click the appropriate software and then a specific installer MyDesktop downloads the software to our desktop and installs the software with all the required parameters and the parameters of our environment.

    So, to answer your question directly, if you are an administrator, we would expect you:

    1 extract the MSI to EXE file that you have downloaded from OTN already.
    2 create a script with the command msiexec calling the MSI and the parameters on the command line.

    To extract the MSI file:

    Note: If you are a customer you have connected on My Oracle Support and sought "extracted from MSI. You would have found KM Note 451873.1 which deals with this. In any case, here's what you do:

    * Run the installation executable provided and wait for the Welcome window to appear.
    Open Windows Explorer and go to Windows TEMP%.directory. The location of this folder varies depending on the operating system

    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\LocalSettings\Temp\
    Windows 7 or Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\

    .. where is your login username.

    * The subfolder is named Oracle-MRI-Installer-1234567890 where 1234567890 can be any 10-digit number.
    * In the new directory, you will find the MSI installer (this is the file ending in ".msi") and a Setup log
    * Copy the MSI installer in a different directory.
    * On the Welcome window, press Cancel. Confirm that you do not want to continue the installation.
    * Click on finish in the final install window. You can delete the temporary directory that was created because it is not deleted when you quit the process.

    I hope this helps!

    Kind regards
    Frank.

  • RMAN can back up/restore different versions of OS without worrying about Oracle databases

    Hello

    I am to evaluate Recovery Manager to back up and restore Oracle databases.

    I save/restore the Oracle data base diferents versions, these databases are running in different operating systems (AIX, LINUX, Windows)

    For example:
    Database Oracle 9 in AIX 5.3 system
    Database Oracle 10 system Lunix
    Database Oracle 9 in Windows system

    I want to have a single server RMAN for backup/restore all my databases Oracle, is it possible?

    A single RMAN server can backup/restore different versions of databases Oracle regardless of the operating system?

    If the answer is Yes, do I need to have an operting specif system in my RMAN Server? (AIX, Linux, Windows, etc.).

    Thanks for your help;

    On the new server, install the rman recovery catalog and save all databases.

    Then you can back up these databases independent of the platform and version by using the recovery catalog.

    However, some of the features that you backup cannot be used based on the version of database. For example, backup compression is available on 10g but not in 9i.
