  My PC works fine for just about everything, except when I need to pop in a CD or DVD. It seems random, but when I hit the eject button on the DVD player, my screens sometimes twinkle.   You need to rip a DVD? Try MPEG Streamclip or brake hand. Both free. Streamclip better, but much more complicated to install and use.

  For some time now the laptop will work ok for about 1 to 2 hours, and then all of a sudden the speakers start making random pitch high bleeps distorted very strong.   Windows XP does not write on DVD, you can use another software.
  Your dvd player should also be a dvd burner, not just a cd burner.
