• "No boot device, press a key." Unable to access BIOS. Does not start a DVD. USB not a startup option.

  How can I get into the BIOS or boot from a Live CD or the Windows installation disk?

  Here's the background info:

  Laptop: Acer TravelMate P273-MG-6608

  OS: Windows 8.1

  Actions leading to the problem:

  I tried to encrypt the drive using BitLocker.

  On reboot, I get the error message "no boot device, press a key."

  When I hit a button, I get a boot menu that lists the HARD drive, DVD player and optional network initialization.

  Booting from either the HARD drive (of course) or DVD does not work.

  The discs I've tried:

  Acer system restore disk

  Restore Win 7 disc

  UBCD

  Hiren

  Ubuntu installation (Saw elsewhere on this forum that worked for someone).

  Methods that tried to access the BIOS:

  Turn on/off the laptop while holding down the key F2.

  While tapping the F2 key about once per second.

  Same thing with the delete key.

  Same thing with F10.

  Same thing with Alt + F10

  Same thing with F8.

  Each method has tried several times without success.

  Action taken:

  Removed the HARD drive and connected to a work computer. In doing so, I was able to recover all my files.

  Player settings appeared to all be correct. Drive letter C:, file NTFS format, primary partition, the recovery partition was there as well.

  Re-inserted the original in the laptop HARD drive - without success.

  Formatted the primary partition on the HARD drive, put it in the laptop, the same results.

  Formatted the entire HARD drive, put it in the laptop, the same results.

  What I see as options:

  1. format the HARD drive outside Windows, for example using Hiren's Boot CD and Gparted.

  2. in so doing, and imaging of the player with a 8.1 for Windows or ISO 7, if I can find a.

  3. If I can get into the BIOS, I should be able to get the laptop to boot from something. Or disable UEFI, which I think is part of the question.

  Any ideas on how I can enter the BIOS or get the laptop to boot from the HARD disk or a floppy disk?

  I downloaded the required BIOS file of:

  Once downloaded, I extracted the files from the archive .zip.

  Then I low-level formatted a disk USB flash with the FAT32 file system.

  Once this is done, I copied the files from within the archive on the USB flash drive.

  With the USB stick inserted into the laptop, I turned on it while pressing ALT + ESC. This brough to the top of the screen where I choose to hit F2 for the program installation, or F12 for the boot menu.

  I pressed F2 and the BIOS came admin screen. Then I yelled something like ' Hallelujah! "

  I changed the MBR to the STRANGE device, put in the first disk to factory default retrieve and press F10 to save and exit the BIOS.

  The Acer splash screen went up, and the laptop booted into the recovery disc. It should work here.

  I don't think that you will not be able to access the BIOS due to the limited improvement you can make to the computer.

• HP laptop does not downloaded program files

  Hello world

  I don't know when this started, but whenever I download a program file, the download is complete, but the file does not open when I click on 'run '. For example, I tried to download the installation of Flash Player and my laptop downloaded the file but I kept clicking on "Run" and nothing appears on the screen.

  Two weeks later, I tried to download the update for Epson printer and again, my laptop downloaded the file but when I click on "Run", nothing.

  I checked to see if it was my firewall settings, so I turned it off and tried to run the programs, but not luck. Any suggestions?

• Windows SDK RegGetValue compiles but does not run program

  I'm porting software from another library that I have that uses native Windows. After writing a small test NI CVI 9.0 program, I found that the RegGetValue() function when it is used, translates into a program that does not work (will not yet be debug with an error on files not being is not in the path). Delete this single line and it works where it is supposed to.

  CVI9 programming interface Toolbox has a function to read the registry, but why it will work with the standard Windows SDK? Is it possible that I can get RegGetValue() to work as documented by MSDN in CVI?

  I tried including ADVAPI32. LIB and ADVAPI32_LVRT. LIB and no work (in the folder lib/MSVC)

  It worries me that the WinSDK is not compatible with CVI and I don't know where I can find this information on the compatibility.

  What operating system do you use? According to MSDN, minimum supported OSs are Windows Vista and Windows XP Professional x 64. The same paper suggests on Win XP SP2 to use SHRegGetValueinstead. You can also watch RegQueryValueEx statement.

  I had the same problem, caused by an update of thugs. I had to do a repair installation to fix the problem. For this,.

  1. Start your Windows computer.
  2. Insert your Windows system DVD into the DVD drive.
  3. Once there either using Windows Explorer or AutoPlay navigate Windows system disc and double-click on the file called "Setup.exe".
  4. Let Windows boot phase review and collection, when that is complete, Windows continues to install Windows 7 on your existing installation of Windows 7. If there is a problem, Windows will give you the opportunity to continue or back out (I would recommend back out).
  5. Once installation is complete, you will need to then activation key, then go to Windows Update and precede to download and install all the WU you miss.

  That's all. It takes more time to make that a full install as Windows must work around your installed files. But it is the method that worked for me.

  Let me know if this solves the problem for you.

• Plugin of TWAIN does not work

  Hi all

  I've tried everything for this and it still does not work.

  I downloaded the two files from this link.

  I went to Applications - Photoshop CS5 - Plug-ins - Import / Export and stuck TWAIN there manually. I also double clicked on the files Optional_Automate.zxp and Plugin.zxp of TWAIN and installed in the extensions Manager. TWAIN exists in the extensions Manager and has a graduation show it is installed and it is in my plug-ins folder, but it does not work.

  When I double click on Photoshop TWAIN opens and gives me this error.

  "Cannot complete request because Photoshop has no overlay this type of file."

  I use an EPSON Stylus SX100 and it has a scanner on it. My drivers for the printer are updated. Photoshop CS5 is the latest version (12.0.2)

  Why not TWAIN work?

  In my view, that the plug TWAIN is 32-bit only. If you use Photoshop in 64-bit mode, you won't see it.

  Quit Photoshoo and then 'Get info' on the Photoshop app in finder and put top to open in 32-bit mode.

• Random Records Access database RND() does not work

  I have a sort of a time finding it. I will start by trying to explain what I want to do:
  Objective: I want 12 files chosen randomly from the list has my Access database.
  Whenever the page is refreshed, I want a new set of 12 cited records. I tried a lot of solutions in recent days does not! Here is my query:

  Here's a quick and dirty example. Just set the desired maximum of lines and store them in the structure. The reason to use a structure is to eliminate duplicates.

  Then be looped through the structure directly, or convert to a list.

• Oracle query of relay and access function call does not return the list

  Thanks to aid in a previous post, I received, I created an oracle 10 g feature that returns the list after you run the sql code it contains. It works in oracle, using sql developer.

• Satellite U940-103 with Linux - Touchpad does not & poorly programmed FN keys

  I bought a toshiba Satellite U940-103, and I installed ubuntu 13,10 dual boot with windows 8.1.

  The problem is that the touchpad is not working and the fn are false (fn f2 key suspend the computer instead of the brightness control).

  I tried to install linux different sistem (Mint cinnamon 15, 13.04 ubuntu, ubuntu 12.04.3) but they still have the same problem, even in the live cd.

  I tried to ask the Italian Forum of ubuntu, but they have solutions do not work...

  Yes, you're right!
  In the direct (stable mode without having to install), the touchpad does not work.

  However, once installed, it will work.

  In regards to shortcut keys, yes they are mapped correctly.
  They are treated to the old-fashioned way (former Toshiba models had the mapping used by Linux on this model).
  If you want help, file a bug report on bugs to Ubuntu system.

  You can always change the brightness by using the GUI (Control Panel > brightness & Lock).

• upgrade to 7.0.1 but does not start; programs incompatible w 2; Download version 3.0?

  I was using Firefox 4.0.1 - informed 'precarious version' but my security suite and my password program would not work 7.0.1 new w... He said that they would be incorporated when available, so I thought that upgrade to 7.0.1 was the right thing to do.
  Now Firefox will not even start.
  Can I download a version 3.0 instead?
  Can I safely use 4.0.1 and the re - download?
  IF 7.0.1 would work, I could manage without my password being program but don't want to turn off my security suite because it contains some anti virusware, etc..
