Access to the library of photos from other applications

This question is so ridiculous, I don't know even how to describe.

When I use Photoshop or Facebook or even mail and I want to open a photo from my library, I'm not able to do it with pictures.  I can get to a picture category in the drop down menu below for the location of the photo, but in the category, it lists a library which no longer opens.  By clicking on that leads to an error message ("this file format is not recognized", or something to that effect.)  I have to go to Photos and send the picture to myself and to save it to my desktop in order to to use.  It didn't happen with iPhoto.

I use an iMac of 2013 and El Capitan 10.11.3.

Everyone knows this?  Can it be fixed?

Thank you.

In mail, click the photo browser to access the photo library: it will display a list of libraries of photos:

Using Photoshop "file > open and scroll down to the media section in the sidebar." Click on the Photo icon. Then wait Photos appear in theistic and be prepared to wait awhile, until what the pictures will be displayed.

  • Move the library of photos from applications to the images folder

I recently used the import in photos app option to import my photos images folder in the photos app.

I deleted all the images in the images folder and discovered later, the photos app choose to save the photo library in applications (?). Why, I don't know.

Reading on the default location of the photo apps, I learned that the photo library must be in images (not in applications)...

For the life of it, I can't move the photos to the pictures library. I can't choose 'copy to another location', I can't drag and drop, I can duplicate but only in again once the applications folder.

How to get to the library of photos of my applications?

I recently used the import in photos app option to import my photos images folder in the photos app.

    How exactly import you?

When you launch Photos it will create the library of Photos in the pictures folder.  Are you really seeing the photo library in Applications or the Photos.app? The icons are very similar: compare file name extensions.

The photo library looks like this - a fan of pictures.

The Photos.app shows that the flower of the unique Rainbow and not a fan.  What you describe is typical of the Photos.app.  It is specially protected under the system and cannot be removed from the Applications folder. Any other file or folder that you copy into the applications folder can be deleted.

  • understand the flow of photos from iPhoto library photos vs vs

I just transfer a bunch of photos from an external hard drive in my iPhoto library.  I created several new Albums right here.  The problem is that my photos are not displayed when I click on the Photos icon on my menu bar.  Also new albums and photos will appear not on my iPad via the photo stream.  I don't understand how the 3things: I picture library, photos, photo stream, work-sharing app.  How to do all of my albums (and the photos in these albums) duplicate in all (or appear to) all my devices?

Migrating from iPhoto to a Photos library library affects only the photos in the iPhoto library in time. Photos and albums added to the iPhoto library after that will be in the iPhoto library unless you also import the photos into your photo library and set and fill albums.

Albums are not spread through my photo stream, only by iCloud photo library.

The new model is of approximately:

    * Use only the Photos app and the library of Photos on your Mac (s). After the initial migration, ignore iPhoto and its library.

    * Use iCloud photo library as the repository ignoring my photo stream unless you have devices that don't support icloud photo library (for most older iPods). You may need to increase your storage plan iCloud to organize all your photos and videos.

    * Use the Photos app on your iPhone (s) and iPad (s) with iCloud as library active. Again, my photo stream is necessary only if you have devices that don't support icloud photo library. You can use the option "optimize storage' to save the storage space on your iPhone (s) and iPad (s).

  • Photo search does not work in the Finder, but done in Spotlight.  In addition, can not see the Photos in other applications using the media browser

Below is a screenshot of Photos with photo with the name IMG_1758.JPG.  On top of the image is my Finder window you are looking for this image under "This Mac" with no results.  Below the resulting from the spotlight that does not show the result.  I have only one library of photos under that user.  Also, if I am in another application such as Notes, Pages, Numbers, etc., I can't search and find images in the Photos.

The Finder doesn't show images in boxes including the photo library.

To access images sin Photos from another application using the media browser, this article was written for iphoto but it pretty much the same for Photos. The first option is to look for.

    Hi TonyCope,

1 are you able to share files both ways on both computers?

Have you checked if you have configured media sharing on the computer that doesn't work properly?

Check, if pictures can access the original files of your pictures, or if the originals are missing.

You can test to try to edit a photo or trying to export it with "file > export > export original file..."

  • Save the library of Photos with faces

    Hello

I had to reinstall my Mac (clean). I supported my library of Photos (with iCloud than on library) on an external drive. Then all deleted and reinstalled my system. After put my photo library and turning on iCloud, all my 4000 pictures started downloading (and duplication) iCloud even they were already there. I had to stop this, delete my backup of the library of Photos and all photos were downloaded from iCloud. It would have been nice if I lose all my face tags (I spent a lot of time with) so how can I do the next time that when reinstalling my Mac?

    Thanks for the tips.

    Milan

It do exactly what you did the first time. Make a backup of your library of photos on an external drive and copy this library back to restore.

The pictures will download all the photos again and compare with iCloud photo library. It will not recognize the library restored as the same library it used before, but she uses a detection duplicates to prevent adding duplicates. It will take as long as the initial download.

If you start with a library empty projects and thumbnails of faces will be lost.  (Use pictures and iCloud library on several Macs - Apple Support)  But the restored Library searchable faces tags. You can still search the faces you assigned previously and use to recreate thumbnails of faces more quickly.

But wait, face detection was performed on the photos downloaded from iCloud photo library.

  • can I save a copy of the library of Photos on a hard drive that is formatted for PC?

I've seen several references to the requirement that a hard drive be formatted to Mac OS... but here's my situation... I back up my everyday Mac files and folders (with commands simple copy/paste) on a 2 TB disk that has been formatted for a pc. It seems to work fine for me.

MY QUESTION - can I copy the photo library (mine is now 15G) of this same drive (even once... it is NOT formatted in OS) to provide care? Yes, I'm not going to try to "open" here but I can copy it on the Mac and do work properly. im just trying to be able to recover from a crash of my Mac.  If my Mac crashed, I won't be able to backup the library of Photos of this PC drive formatted to my new Mac, and then open it as usual.

extra credit question: what exactly is a "library" file I see that it shows with another icon in the finder, compared to a folder or a file.  im guessing that it is some kind of package that has the hierarchy within this user every day didn't need to dive in...? but in the context of my Q... can I copy this library (from 1 location 2 location) as if it was a garden variety file?

    1. no outside a Mac OS Extended format disk image. Note that if the drive is formatted FAT32, the file size of the image must be less than 4 GB.

    2. Yes, it is.

You wonder if you might be looking at the wrong place. You can watch/listen to house content shared app for computers not the music app.

  • Access to the library via another application

I am putting together a photo book with a 3rd party software and am unable to access my photo library on the mac book.  This seems to have become a problem since the migration of iPhotos to photos.  When I try to send pictures of this library, it is grayed out and is not accessible.  Also seems to be the case if trying to attach a photo in gmail.  Any ideas anyone?

What software do you use?  Done is to have an option to import file ➙

and, if so, is there an option of media browser in the next window?  It might resemble the following Preview:

If you can access the library of Photos in this way with your software, you need to export the photos you want to use a folder on the desktop and access them with your software.

With Gmail, you must set up E-mail as a client for your Gmail account

and then you can use the Share button to get the pictures selected in a Gmail email:

I work in a school and create a library of shared photos to easily collect and safely store the picture throughout the school. My experience was a success and the school would like to take formally. Is it possible to transfer the property of the library of photo to another user?

    iPhoto? Photos?

I don't know it is really a matter of property, or are you talking about just technically?

  • import the library of photos of Yosemite to El Capitan

I'm doing a fresh installation of the El Capitan after I made backup of operating system existing Yosemite on external drive, so I need to import the library of Photos of Yosemite El Capitan.

How can I do? Suggestions please?

New facility means fade and clean install? If you have a backup or Yosemite is located on the external hard drive, then go in the user folder/photos Yosemite and restore the iPhoto for the El Capitan record/photos user library. Open iPhoto (or Photos), then set the location of the user folder/photo library.
