Accompanied by slow system blank taskbar icons

Hi people.

We have a XPS that knows the slow to the point where the system seems to be frozen (after a minute or two, it will recover semi).  A symptom that may give a clue is missing from the taskbar icons (just a little).  And then, when the rest appear finally sometimes they are white white Windows document icon.

Any ideas?

I can't tell if it's an imminent failure or a Windows thing.  I've got msconfig had and disabled some startup stuff.  I am currently in safe mode by writing this.

Thx for the feedback people - looks like it's a secondary hard drive dying slowly.

I guess the error as well as symptoms expire "semaphore" is pretty good evidence of this.

And this leads to the following question (best practices for the dead of the road cleaning):

Win7-64

so first, I'll start with my system features:

    NVIDIA GT525M 2 GB
    8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-bit
    Samsung PM830 SSD 2.5 "7 GB 218, 42 GB of free
My laptop is now just a year and plays well outside some blue screen errors that have been fixed. The question now is time to start being significantly slower, especially the loading of the office. It takes 15 seconds to the password screen, to 45 seconds to reach the office and another 45 seconds to the taskbar, icons and things on the desktop to load. What is unusual is that during this black screen, my mouse is displayed, as well as for Advanced System Care 6 performance monitor (I doubt that this is the problem as I had installed for some time). I did the troubleshooting on mine and removed about half of my program without success. I also checked the health and performance of my SSD with SSD and SSD life and both seem to be very positive. I did not any changes to the Bios because I don't want to reinstall my OS and I'm not really sure on workarounds.
I tried also to the difficulty of the task of explorer.exe, by checking the value of shell in the registry and it is correct, that it just load slowly at the start and each time I kill and then open it again in the Task Manager. Therefore, I think that my main problem is with explorer.exe loading slowly for some reason, I also removed some desktop icons and taskbar, although I doubt that it makes much difference.
I've also done many scans with malware bytes pro and hitman pro, there is no virus on my computer.
I appreciate any help, as it is very inconvenient for my more than 90 seconds start time, when he was about 20 when the laptop was new.
Thank you very much for your help!
P.S. I have about 60 GB of games installed on my pc via steam, if it makes a difference to delete some

When my Windows 7 is slow to start, I do the following:

Start, then in the search box, type of race. In run, type "msconfig"(sans guillemets), and then click OK. ""
In the general tab, make sure that selective startup is selected.
Under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
Then go to the Startup tab and disable everything except software antivirus and important such as the microsoft. In addition, DO NOT disable any program that you do not recognize.
This will disable any unnecessary background programs and prevent to launch at startup.
NOTE: you can still start programs even if they do not start at startup. For example, your favorite game is one of them, and you the disabled. Now, the game does not start at startup, but if you click on the game icon later, it will always start, except maybe a bit slower when it starts. Basically, you are delaying the start of programmes which does not need to start at startup, you move a part of the start-up BACK period. The only programs that you do not disable is programs that actually need to start (like if it starts your computer will blow or something similar).
  • Some of the taskbar icons are blank sheets

Some programs such as Internet Explorer, MS Outlook 2007 and iTunes are on the taskbar as blank sheets. I tried to place shortcuts on the desktop and go into properties and change icon. It has worked for other programs but the button change icon in these programs are blackened. Tried to enter the path to the programs without success.

Is there anyway to make the icons for the programs show?

    Thank you!

I have this problem, had to do a hard reset because of the loss of output video/media center crash on restart my Firefox Firstclass & icons are now leaves white, very annoying. Delete iconcache.db fix does not work. I was able to restore the icon to exe files, but the icons pinned Taskbar & Start menu, items do not update.
    My dose is as follows:

    Step 1:
click Start > right click on the program in the start menu > properties > Shortcut tab > change icon > Browse (go to exe for this program) > select exe file > open > choose appropriate options icon. > ok > ok > if you get a message saying that only an administrator can do this, click on continue to apply the change.

Step 2: start a session application & while it is running to right click on the taskbar icon > detach this program > new right click (watch now icon because it represents the application running, not the shortcut) > pin this program

I'm not a fan of the new taskbar of the mac either style, it open & navigate several sessions of programs is tedious, especially when the previews seem to almost identical & if different programs use the same icon he adds to the confusion. Y at - it an option of the 'Classic' taskbar somewhere like the classic view for Control Panel, that they used to offer?

  • After the 24 Firefox update, Windows 7 64-bit breaks on reboot. The network in the taskbar icon is not ready (blue circle stopped).

After 24 of Firefox update, Windows 7 breaks after the reboot. The network in the taskbar icon is not ready (blue circle on the wireless network icon). But I can't do much. I can't open the network and sharing Center (never opened). Even the Task Manager hangs when I click to show processes from all users. I have to do a system restore for a network working again. I never even launched Firefox.

Wow... I finally have the solution. Windows updates have been applied at the same time I updated Firefox. Bluetooth driver is what broke (which is part of the Centrino wireless). I ended up installing the latest driver from Intel, Windows Update, and then update Firefox... and all is well.

I thank very you much for all your help. Take care.

    Hi Mike,.

    1. what happens when you open the sound icon and other software? You receive messages or error codes?

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

You can try to perform a clean boot and check if the problem persists.

A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.

You can read the following article to put the computer in a clean boot:

After the troubleshooting steps, please refer to clean the boot link to put the computer to normal startup mode.

    Step 2:

You can also temporarily disable the security software and firewall installed on the system and check if the problem persists.

Note: Be sure to enable the security software on the computer after checking.

    Method 2:

You can read the following article to download the Microsoft Safety Scanner and perform a full scan on your computer.

    Microsoft safety scanner

Note: When you perform the analysis, there are chances of losing the data that you can take a backup of important data before performing analysis.

  • using the taskbar icon made a right-click menu options 'tasks' disappeared

I'm on FF 34.0.5 running on Windows 7 Ultimate (V6.1 Build 7601, SP1). Since a few days the options of 'tasks' on the right, click on the menu of the taskbar icon disappeared. The rest is two (three times current running FF) lines: unpin and FF.
I tried the solution proposed by https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/994990 without success. The browser.taskbar.lastgroupid keeps returning to this string "E7CF176E110C211B" as the set of users.
I even uninstalled completely, including the folder in Program Files and my FF profile. None of the measures has helped.

The highest browser.taskbar... has the same value after re-installation. The key containing this value is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla\Firefox\TaskBarIDs, with two values "default = not defined" and "C:\\Program Files (x 86) \\Mozilla Firefox" = "E7CF176E110C211B."

How can I return this feature?
    Thanks for the help
    Mike

    solved!
uninstall of FF and a cleaning the registry and program files/user data has helped.
