• loop through the layers defining the lock and visibility

  I need to loop through the layers in the active document and the value of the properties of the layer is false or true.  I tried to create a loop using a method 'for', but it doesn't seem to work. I have renounced the method 'for' because I kept running into a problem.  I have set all layers with these settings just the odd ones (2,4,6, etc.). Here is sample if it was written.

  I must be missing something.  In Adobe Illustrator, when you select a layer (or Sub-layer) to copy, is it possible to copy only visible layers and not those hidden?

  When I provide my clients with their final illustrator files, I only want to register the approved artwork.  Currently, I make a copy of the file and go through and delete hidden files, it would be much easier to copy and paste in place visible layers in an Adobe illustrator file.

  Given that your items are grouped, select objects on the artboard should be as effective as Select layers in the layer panel.

  You will not be able to resolve this layer-selection-irritation. Happened for some versions. You might consider to report it as a bug.

  When I delete a layer of AE CS5.5, is there a way I can get all the other layers above him to retreat and to fill in the empty space in the timeline, without physcially having to pass them all?

  Not automatically.  But you can do this:

  Place the cursor in the timeline to the place where you first layer to begin once that everything is moved.

  Click on the layer immediately above the layer you want to delete.

  Shift-click on the upper - layer you have selected now all layers above the one to delete.

  Maj-do drag the selected layers.  They will align with the point where the cursor of the timeline.

  Once you have verified that all is well, delete this undesirable layer.

  I have a book script Adobe Scripting of Chandler McWilliam, I want to use. Essentially, it exports all visible layers in a document open in PS. The script works, but I can't seem to export to a folder/directory of my choice. It is default export to the folder that contains the Photoshop application.

  I use a Mac.

  I'm working on a newsletter page 8 for a customer. There are 5 versions of the newsletter of new pages 3-6 are common to all the 5 editions, pages 1-2 and 7-8 is unique to each version. I use an InDesign document with 6 layers, 1 layer of background (#1) pour common/story layouts and a separate layer for each version (#2-#6). When laying on the stories of page 7 (a single page) my invisible layers affect the provision on visible layers. I have a story on layer #2 all plotted, so when I move to the layer #3 I disable #2 and light #3 which should give me a blank page to work with. The page appears empty, but when I add my pictures and text, information on layer #3 is being moved by what looks like a build-up of layer #2. Why is this invisible layer affecting the layout on a visible layer? How do I fix this so I don't have to go back and rebuild individually 5 versions? Thank you!

• Iteration through the activeDocument.layers is very slow

  I am trying to build a table of all visible layers currently in a document, and the only way I know how to do it is by performing an iteration (by using where loop method) app.activeDocument.layers however, the problem is it is really slow for some reason any. For 37 layers, it will sit there for about 10 to 15 seconds and the mouse pointer will fluctuate between normal and busy pointer.

  A few questions:

  (a) is there a better way to build the list of visible layers?

  (b) why it takes so long to complete this (Note: there is only a single action in the loop that is assigning the active layer in the layers panel to l):

  There isn't really any documentation by using the Action Manager. The javascript guide that ships with Photoshop lists the properties and methods for the action descriptor, Action reference and list of actions. And the app.object methods to convert an ID.

  In the Preferences-general- if you uncheck the Split create layers above original layer. So if you split a layer, Ctrl + Shift + D. You'll see the Split layer under your original layer. So, I liked the idea of Split layers under the original layer. Is there a reason perhaps better to have Split over the original layer?

  Usually, you create a composite from the bottom to the top. Separation of the layers to me usually means that I add something to the composite to the new layer above the original makes perfect sense. Most of the time when I shared a layer, I'll do something different to that layer and then extend the layer below to create a composite. It would be a very strange thing for me to have a sea of layers under a layer of master because he wouldn't do that add to the antics so I wanted to build some layers by using the original footage.

There is no longer the smart object layer all layers that were visible have been merged into a single layer of Pixels a raster layer.    All RAW data and ACR settings were lost during her Merge visible layers.   You can convert this layer fused to a smart object layer and use ACR as a dynamic filter on this layer to smart object.
