  My Dimension 9200 needed a new HARD drive. Ordered from Dell, installed HD then re-installed Windows XP Pro sp2. When I check in system properties, General, it shows that it is registered to me and some numbers with Dell OEM then more numbers, not the OS key code well.

  When you use a Dell OEM media on a Dell computer, it checks the BIOS to make sure that it is install on a Dell computer, then it will be activated automatically, using a generic OEM key.  As long as you have the sticker COST/License/Product Key, you have the right to run Windows on this computer.  That's pretty standard for OEM systems.

  System properties still shows a 'code', not the actual key.  You can use Magic Jelly Bean to retrieve the key used to activate Windows, but the key, that he will return does not match your COA and cannot be used for manual activation.
