• Can not activate iCloud email

  I already had this problem with two different users:

  I tried to activate email in the prefs to iCloud.   Hi mac_heibu,

  Sync of Typekit fonts will not overwrite a font of the same name that you have installed locally.  If the local police is cleared, you will be able to synchronize the same as Typekit without any problem.  (If the local policy is active, you will see an error message in the creative clouds: "a font with the same name is already installed.".)

  When you want to reuse your installed version, remove the font from your fund selections Typekit so it is not more synchronized on your computer.  Then re - activate the police locally in your font management software (book fonts, for example).

• Hi, after about half an hour I can not select the open tabs or see new tabs. When I reboot and restore previous session new tabs appear.

  Unable to activate the existing tabs. I have no problem with the restoration of a previous session or by opening the previous tabs, but although the new tabs are created - because I see them when I restart Firefox - they are invisible until I restart. In addition, some, but not all menu options are not available, until I restart.

  Hi philipp and cor - el, thanks for advice on my problem with the tabs on Firefox gel. After the safe boot mode, I think I have identified that the problem was an add-on, which enabled me to manage and save Firefox sessions.

• Questions about reinstalling Windows XP after the end of Support

  Several members of the family of my friends that I sometimes provide technical assistance for are still under XP SP3 on their systems.  These systems are too outdated and underpowered to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, and it will probably be some time until they are able to upgrade to a more recent hardware capable of running most modern versions of Windows.

  If in the meantime, something happens to one of their computers requiring a reinstall of Windows after support for XP purposes, but before they can get a newer computer, I have a few questions about what will happen:

  1. Is there still a way to activate their existing copies of XP during installation process?
  2. While I understand that new patches, updates, patches & will be is no longer provided, existing patches will be available through the Microsoft Update service so that I would be able to get those computers to update state that they would be about to XP supported ends, or do I have to search elsewhere to try & find these updates?  (It would be nice if Microsoft put up a cumulative update that would be sort of a mega-patch for people in this situation to be able to get back to the most current state systems, but I would not be surprised if there wasn't such a thing).

  You should be able to clean install and activate Windows XP.  You should be able to upgrade as well, even if the wise move would be to get the updates stored on portable media or integrated into a multimedia installation (or both) as soon as POSSIBLE if the plan is to continue using Windows XP for a while.

  My suggestion is to set up and to buy Windows 7 Professional renovated systems / lease from places like TigerDirect.com - as pricing is generally about the same as just a license for Windows 7 or a little professional, the hardware specifications of these machines are likely machines Windows XP current in use, using something like the PC Mover take care of Laplink and Microsoft to move files (or for the more than 25 USD the) applications that can be moved as well) to the new system of the former is possible, and Windows 7 will get updated until 2020.

  Recently research I've seen systems to Windows 7 Professional for as little as 150 USD with 4 GB of memory and dual core processors.  Not bad.

• EVC cluster creation / migration hosts him / minimal disruption VM

  I am reshape my somewhat environment and need a bit of advice.  Currently, I have 2 ESX hosts in a non - EVC cluster and built a new blade server.  The new blade and 2 hosts will work together in a cluster active CVS.  I know that I have to run my EVC cluster "Intel Xeon Core 2" mode.  All 3 hosts will support this mode.

  The News / 3rd cluster is sitting in his own vCenter, a VCA-activated cluster (in mode above).  Has no running VMS, it is already configured with network access and storage that matches that of the 2 existing/production hosts, which are currently managed by another instance of vCenter (but I am moving them out of this instance of vCenter in this new EVC-activated, to join the new blade.

  All hosts running ESX 3.5 U4.  vCenter is 2.5 U4.

  BIOS on guests must be modified to memory XD in so that they can be used in an EVC cluster, so I know I need to stop at SOME point to get them in the cluster active CVS.

  I have an idea on how to address these requirements, with a big goal is NO interruption of service for running virtual machines.  VMs can be migrated to a new cluster, EVC-activated, coming from an old cluster VCA not compatible?  Most all current VMs based on Intel some running already in reference "Intel Xeon Core 2" EVC mode or I'm just kidding me and must arrest all of them at some point after they "seized" a VCA-activated cluster?

  How would you do to this migration between vCenters and Clusters?  I think I can use 'Disconnect' the first vcenter (to at least avoid having to go into Maint Mode and then 'delete' of the first cluster/vCenter database)... also, I'm looking for the most logical get "here" to "there".  Thank you.

  I see that the problem of different vCenters/Clusters is resolved.

  What you need now is to know if you can VMotion between two ESXs with different processors. Before existing VCA, I have had... and had NOT a few difficulties doing this. It is not a problem when DIFFERENT pCPUs have the SAME GAMES of INSTRUCTIONS (SSE3, SSSE3, SSSE4 and so on...) Even if the sets are different, I was able to mix the MASK of CPU management options, which are by VM (thing that I didn't like... There should be an option to change this on a same CLUSTER basis or an ESX!).

  I recommend you to test for differences between the sets of instructions of the Jepp of two ESX with this tool, I think it is the best out there:

  If the sets of instructions are different, you have a problem, because you have to find the bits change in the MASK of CPU options in each virtual machine... and who needs a reboot, too. I think they will be different, because more recent pCPUs with FlexMigration (VCA compatible Intel processors), simply because they are new they surely have a new instruction set (perhaps SSSE4)

  Anyone know why sorenson quicktime codecs do not appear in the library of codecs on the new CS4 (after effects, Premiere Pro CS4 PS) for some reason, I have them in older versions CS2 and CS3, but not in CS4 (none of them have them) and of course, I installed the full CS4 Production Premium directly from the original packaging with all options I tried 3 times and nothing, I re-installed the quicktime pro, but nothing is there
  Anyone know not proven to add this codecs to CS4 codecs library, you know that it is a video codec of high quality in a small size compression

  It is not a CS4 or even something related to Adobe. Some time ago, Apple said that Sorenson Video (and a few others) obsolete. For this reason, you must manually activate.

  To activate the existing codecs for QuickTime 7.4 on Mac OS x:

  1. After Effects output.
  2. Click Apple Menu.
  3. Select System Preferences.
  4. Select QuickTime.
  5. Click the Advanced tab.
  6. Select to see the legacy encoders.
  7. Close system preferences.

  To activate the codecs of QuickTime 7.4 on Windows XP:

  1. After Effects output.
  2. Click Start > Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on QuickTime.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Under Media Encodingcheck active encoding using codecs.
  6. Click OK.

  That said, Sorenson Video really is a codec inherited. H264 is much more efficient, has been around for years and it is compatible with Quicktime and the current Flash plugin.

• vSphere 4.0u2 activate VCA with running virtual machines?

  We are in the process of upgrading/migration of 4.0u2 ESX to ESXi 4.1.

  vCenter has been upgraded to 4.1 and we have received a couple of new hosts, which we are in the process of ESXi 4.1 installation on.

  We would like to put the new 4.1 hosts in a HA/DRS cluster's existing capabilities while we improve the hosts in a cluster.

  However, a difference between processors in the old and new guests two-way vMotion (Opteron 2435 vs. Opteron 6174).

  -I'm guessing that the new AMD - V 2.0 feature is to "blame"?

  It seems that the option activate CVS for Opteron Gen 3 is available on the cluster's existing ESX4.0u2 - even if the virtual machines are running.

  But will it work? And it is supported? (Seems at least that it was not possible in v3.5)

  I tried direct CVS on a test cluster containing two new hosts ESXi4.1 and a test of running VMs - this has worked.

  - And afterwards, I was able to vMotion on the 'old' cluster ESX4.0u2.

  But I'm a little reluctant to do a direct to CVS on our existing production cluster.

  Any input/experiences?

  VCA goes through the same process of validation that vMotion don't - so it will not let you do if he won't have to work. I did not work with AMD chips in this configuration, but I did it with intel (and recently) and it worked very well and in production.

  So, it's OK... The TC is part of an existing network or makes a new.

  You must connect to the TC network... either wireless or ethernet.

  However, you can manually configure the TC simply plug ethernet for example.

  See, cable using Time Capsule for Mac for backup only.

  The same can be done for the wireless... but a TC is really the bad device for backups if you don't have a network... It's cheaper, faster and more reliable by using a USB key.
